WORTH MILLIONS
South Entering New Era of Agricul
tural Production, Declares
H. G. Hastings.
Atlanta, Ga. —(£\;ecial.) —That the
Boys' Corn Club movement means a
great deal more to the South than
the average citi: on has ever dreamed,
is the conclusion presented in an in
teresting interview by H. G. Hastings
of Atlanta, chairman of the agricul
tural committee of the Atlanta Cham
ber of Commerce and manager of the
Georgia State Cora Show, which is
presented annually in the state Capi
tol building.
“We are facing,” says Mr. Hastings,
“an era of agricultural production such
as the world has never before wit
nessed. Every year since the first
corn club was organized, the move
ment has seen more than remarkable
growth. One year's record has be
come insignificant when that of the
next year doubled It; aad by that, I
meaa that many mere beys have gone
into the work aad have vastly la
creased results act oaly by their own
effoits, but through inspiration to fa
thers, brothers and neighbors until
millions of dollars have already been
added to corn production in the Boutn,
“And yet this is but a forecast of
what is to come. There are now be
ing organized as an outgrowth or the
corn club work, Three and Four-Crop
Clubs. The boys will plant oats and
cowpeas on their former corn acre,
thus diversifying their crops and re
newing the soil, whiie anew acre will
be taken for corn cultivation. In some
sections cotton has been added to the
list, on a third acre, and the rour-
Crop Club boys have already gone to
work.
“Another outgrowth of the corn club
is the Pig Club. Southern boys have
learned the truth of the story, of the
unsuccessful farmer who sent to a
more prosperous neighbor to buy a
shoat. The neighbor sold him the
shoat, but with it presented him a
sack of corn. ‘You have got the
shoat under your arm,’ he told the
farmer, ‘but I want you to remember
that the hog is in the sack.”

Atlanta, Ga., Jan., Bth.—Word
comes to Atlanta of a farmer
named Frank Stoddard who lias
to put on skirts and a suubonnet
when lie goes to milk.
The cow, a particularly fine
Jersy, was purchased a short
time ago from two maiden la
dies, Misscu Jennie and Al ee
Case. For a number of years
passed they had milked the cow
•regularly, . and the gentlest of
bovines had never touched by ;
male hand.
Stoddard bought it knowing
to be absolutely gentle, and was
therefore astounded the first
morn ng he went to milk it,
when the cow gave one frighten
ed glance at bin, kicked over
the bucket and jumbed the fence.
It was the Misses Case wl
suggested the expedient of P
skirt and sunbonnet, and now
Sookie stands/ just as calmly for
Mr. Stoddard as she use-to stand

TO MIAKE AUTOMOBILE
STEALING A FELONY.
Atlanta, Ga., Jan. Bth. —A hill
will be introduced at this year’s
ses, .icn of the legislature to
make auto steal mg a felony. At
tention has bben called to the'
glaring inequality of the law
which makes it a felony to steal
a horse which isi worth perhaps
less than SIOO., while the man
who steals a $6,000 limousine
can be only prosecuted for mi
demeanor.
A case in point came up in a
local courts tlus; week. A mai.
was arrested for horse-steal ng.
The horse was worth little but
the man was bound over to the
Higher court and will probably
get six or seven years at the
least for hie crime- If instead
of stealing the horse he had pick
ed' out the finest automobile in
Atlanta, the utmost limit of
sentence that could have been
imposed on him would have beoi
