ANTITYPHOID VACCINE.
Its Use and Limitations. — De
scribed by the State

Scarcely any medical proced
ure has attracted more attention
or lias been more candidly
weighed in balances, than has
the vaccine against typhoid lev
er. Thj s vacein (l was introduced
by VVr gl)t of England, several
years ago. Since its introduc
tion I terally hundreds of thous
ands of doses have been given
and the results carefully noted.
Its use lias now passed beyond
the experimental stage, and it,
employment has become compul
sory (n the arm es of the world
powers, and every one knows
the struggle to keep typhoid
out of the camps is one of the
hardest lights an army has to
make. 'While the death rate from
this disease in civilian practice
is from 10 to 30 per cent., in
army practice f of’tfji runs as
high jis 55 per cent. Typhoid to
day, however, in bur army and
invy is practically a thing of the

Two years ago, however, in 20,000

had similar good results in their

in favor of this vaccine becomes

practice, but where it has been
employed in civil an service, the
results have been uniformally
good.

The local symptoms first make
