How to Have a Revival in Winder.
(B(y Rev. W. H, Faust.)
Asa citizen of Winder I am pro
foundly convinced that the thing that
is needed more than any oilier thing
just now, is an old-fash Rim'd revival
of the religion, that meant so much
to our fathers and mothers.
Such a meeting can l;e had if we
are entirely willing to pay the price.
Read Hebrews 11:30. “By faith the
walls of Jericho fell down after
they had been compassed about
seven days.” The story of the fall

of Jericho has always been intensely
interesting to all students of the Bi
ble, and those who desired to spread
Christianity. Il is absolutely useless
to write a word about the first es
sential, which is a good leader. The
city has preachers who are capaci-
tated to effectively lead one of the
greatest revival ever held anywhere.
Men of scholarship and consecration.
Men whose hearts God has touched.
Men who want a great outpouring of
the Holy Spirit, and a large ingather
ing; of lohl souls.
The Great Need.
The great need is a Christ like hord
of followers who will say to the Lord
and to the leaders, like Isaiah: “Here
am I, send me.” We need as lay-men
bers to sing again that old song of
consecration that our mothers sung
and meant from their hearts:
"Take my life and let it lie
Consecrated Lord to thee;
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautflul for thee.
Discouragements are bound to come
until the Devil is dead. And he is
not dead. I frankly think that we
underestimate his power in a meeting
and feel that he is not at all potent,
lie is as much a personality as
Christ, though not so powerful of
course. There are only two forces in
the world—Good and Elvll. Christ
leads the good, the Devil leads the
evil. Neither is sleeping and the
fight is on to the finish. But what
ever elsq you may do, do not get the
thought that the Devil is weak. I
preached a sermon once on the Devil
aud told of his plans and methods of
work. A friend had driven some dis
tance to hear the sermon and at
tend the service. At its close, after
1 had shown how he even met with
(rod's children and worked through
even them at times, and how again
lie used church members to carry
out his plans, the man came up to
me and said: “You preached the
truth today, but 1 Would rather have
heard you on another subject. I think
1 would have enjoyed it more-’’ Of
course if one goes to church to hear
an enjoyable sermon he will be dis
appointed if the preacher bears down
on sin and tells how the Devi! at
times uses the so-called soldiers of
Jesus Christ to fight his battles for
him.
The Devil on His Job.
A large crowd of ladies were quilt
ing and talking. They said much
about a lot of people and some things
that were not very complimentary.
One good old lady had not said much
but what she said was not of a crit
ical nature. Finally a lady turned
to her and said, "I believe you would
find something nice to say about the
Devil.” Yes,“ said the lady, “I can
say this about him, he always at
tends to his own business.” IDe can
take a seemingly small thing and
make a mountain out of it. I haw*
seen a good "hristian man nod and
doze during a sermon and cause the
effect of a sermon to be ruined for
some of the hearers. A giggle on
the part of a thoughtless girl in the
midst of a serious plea has often
caused an appeal to lose Its power.
Often a song dragged has ruined the
force of a meeting that otherwise
would have been a success. Did
you ever see a preacher give an invi
tation and the organist and song lead
er whisper and plan for a couple of
minutes before commencing a song
that was as foreign to the subject
and appeal as a fish would be to
the top of a church spire in the
midst of a five weeks’ drouth.
How Pentecost Came .
They were all together, of one
mind with one desire. When I first
commenced to preach I thought the
results of Pentecost came from the
one sermon that Peter preached. Not
so, it came from the prayers and! la
bors of them all. Notice that there
were 120 present not 119. They were
all there. The church is wrecked to
day by not the world, but its mem
bers. Bill Smith can’t attend servi
ces because he will have to associ
ate with Sam Jones. But did you ever
stop to think how easy it was in
the lodge room for them to sit on the
floor and fellowship each other. They
have to breathe the same air and en
joy the same sunshine, and drink wa
ter out of the same reservoir or
creek. That is easy but they can't
sit in the same church and fellowship
each other. When one man or any
number of men set themselves up
agains't the church of God and cause
the chariot wheels of the king’s char
iot to drag heavily it is time for such
an one to say “Lord be merciful to
me." Some of us who are familiar
with the building of King Solomon’s
Temple recognize the fact that each
stone had to be in its place, or else
the keystone could never have been
at the right place. And brother, sis
ter, you may be the stone that is
necessary to the mason as you lie
out in the dust and rubbish of the
world. Christ said that “he that is
not for ime is against me." Are you
for him wiien you are uiit' in the
crowd, by your conduct, casting
stones in the way. Line up for
the King for he wants you, he loves
you, he needs you. lu needs you
NOW.
How Simple is the Work
When a lad in school the Method
ists were having a meeting in the
town where I was living. A good
preacher was doing the preaching
and they had good singing. J had
a friend about my age who was not
a member. A good woman in the
church wrote him a nice Ltter and
told him that she wanted to see him
become a Christian. He showed me
*
the letter, became. Interested, joined
during the meeting and is today one
of the pillars of that church. Whet
a word or letter will do if sent or
given in the right spirit. In a meet
ing that the writer was holding in
South Georgia, two boys were con
verted. The next morning as I was
sitting on the porch of a member
close to the church, waiting for the
hour of service, when these two boys
came over to the well with a third
boy and tactfully came to me and
asked that I talk to their companion
about his soul. He too came and was
a loyal member.
Don’t Neglect Those
Who are Great.
The hungriest and neediest hearts
in all the world are sometimes found
in the breasts of those who are re
garded as wealthy and influential. An
evangelist went into a town to hold
a meeting. It was well under way
when he talked with a friend about
a prominent citizen of the town who
was not a Christian. His friend told
him that it would be useless to at-

the part of the members with the
promises of God fulfilled, will brim
a great season of spiritual refresh

The people obeyed their leaders
and had faith in God and worked and
on the seventh day the walls of the
city of Jericho fell. The walls of sin
will fall In our city when we
God and yield ourselves to his ser
vice. And the workers will receive
from the hands of the Christ a crown
of eternal life. If we win souls it
will be studded with stars that
will shine forever and forever.
Let’s become soul-winners and ex
pect a great revival from the Lord
for our city, saying in our hearts,
will not let thee go except thou
bless me.”
