Frances IE. Willard: “We Christians
must not sit by and let the fires oi
evil burn on; we must not permit
poverty to shiver, and squalor to
send forth its stench, and disease to
fester in the heart of great popula

we ss'e the CVrjst-men and the Christ

Did ever a class of people
have such a fine opportunity as the
women of Barrow have today of do
ing what will add so much to the gen

some prophet of God could rise up
and say to these noble women: “Wh<

into the kingdom for just this hour.”
The hour of destiny is slowly strik

blessed shall they be above women.

AGED COUPLE DIED
ON THE SAME DAY.
Strange Coincidence Idarked The
Lives of Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah
Williams, of Edison.
Cordede, Ga., April 18.—The funer
al of Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard occurr
ed at Edison Tuesday, eleven hours
apart.
In addition to their deaths occur
ring on the same date, there were a
number of extraordinary coincidences
surrounding the lives of Mr. and
Mrs. Sheppard that made their career
rather remarkable. Mrs. Sheppard’s
maiden name was also Sheppard, Mis
Martha Sheppard. Her birthday oc
curred on the same date as that of
her husband, September 30. At the
time of their death he was 85 years
old and she 83. Both fo their fathers
were named John Sheppard, though
there was no kinship between them.
Mr. and Mrs. Sheppard had lived to
gether 65 years. The Sheppards wer

prominent people.

and she is enticing and alluring. He
is shunned and she is sought. He
is criticised and she is coveted.
It is right that women be religious
and minded to follow Christ closely
for they are nearer than to the heart
of the race. They are rensponsible
for their use of time and talents and
more closely than is the efforts of
a mere man. While the men are out
making the living for the home the
women are engaged in making the
life, and we all know full well that
a life is worth infintely more than a
living. The plastic clay in the hands
of the skilled potter is not more easi
ly shaped than are the Ideals of our
youth by our mothers in. the hom°.
Knowing this the writer firmly te
lieves that the home is above the
church, the school, everything of
such a nature. And the wife and
mother in the home is the power th >i
guides us safely through the shoals
of adversity and temptation.
