the vicinity.
Asa minister he is a hard student,
a faithful pastor, an able preacher.
Asa citizen he is an upholder of the
law, loyal to all the best interests
of the state and community.
While in our midst he was con

SAYS U. S. IS WATCHING
EUROPE'S LIQUOR FIGHT
Chicago.—“ Every industrial cor
poration in America ’is watching Eu
rope’s fight against, “booze,” declar
ed R. J. Young, superintendent of
the sa|ety and welfare department of
the Illinois Steel Company, today.
In his department Mr. Young has
charge of the campaign against whis
key being waged among the
20,000 employees of the steel compa
ny in Cary, Ind., and South Chicago.
“In each nation where intoxicating
liquors have been prohibited or their
sale curtailed, a widespread increase
in efficiency has followed,” he said.
“There is no doubt that the has
quickened public drift toward regula
tion, if not prohibition, of the drink
evil.
“Among our 20,000 employees we
have been successful in the exercise
suasion and education rath

We do not invade the homes. We

That there are no near-beer saloons
in Georgia today, and that every beer
saloon in the state is as much in open
violation of the law as a blindtiger
would be, is the stand which the pro
hibition leaders are going to make
before the legislature this summer.
They are planning an uncompromis
ing fight to put the beer saloons out
of business and are planning for a
concerted effort to have passed a
new law which it will be impossible
to evade as the present one is be
ing evaded.
The failure of the prohibitionists in
the past has been often due, their
leaders think, to the fact that they
have scattered their strenght in sup
port of various measures and ideas
instead of centering on one thing an<
sticking to that until they succeed in
putting it over. For that reason they
propose to center all their forces on
the one movement to rid the state
of the beer saloons. They have hit
upon the beer saloons as the most
glaring evil because they are the on
ly wide-open places where anybody
can go in at any time and purchase
an alcoholic drink.
Shells from some guns spread hav

Liquor causes suicides, homicides
and sorrow side. Yet for 500.00 a
year it may go on in some places.
Kansas has fewer prisons and
more money per capita than any
state west of the Mississippi river.
She has also more prohibition.
The legislature of North Carolina
will allow but one quart of liquor
a week shipped to an individual man
in that state.
It is unlawful to sell or dispense
whiskey in Georgia. How can self
respecting men consent to have the
law- violated in their name?
