“In the beginning God.” So the
Book of Books opens in the first
chapter of Genesis, and it closes
with God in the last verse of the
last chapter of Revelation. God is
in the Bible from cover to cover, lie
is in the world from pole to pole.
As the spirit of freedom is abroad
in Georgia, from Rabun gap to Ty
bee sound, and from the waters of
the Chattahoochee' to the banks of
the turbid Savannah; so is God in
the world. lie created it, and with
out him was not anything made
that was made, and we all reeonize
that one groat enough to create is
great enough to sustain, and keep
that which lie has created.
In my childish imagination, I have
often wondered how the world was I
made with all its vast ness. Grant
the truth that God is, and it is an
easy question to answer, deny God,
and there is no answer. The heaven
of heavens can not contain him, all
wisdom is his, before all things he
was.
In the Beginning God.
The scripture naturally puts him
whore lie belongs. Before time was,
lie was. In the poisons of the
Trinity, Father Son and Holy Ghost,
lie plamxl the universe forevermore
with all its problems and solutions
to same. An old negro came to me
as a child and asked who “We" re
ferred to in the early chapters of
Genesis, before there was a,ny ih*o
ple at all. Anthropormorphic lan
guage it is -God adapting his lan
guage to the conception of man. Can
1 explain the Trinity. O'f course not
no more than 1 could explain God,
the Father, but I don’t pass elec
tricity by because 1 don’t understand
it. Neither do I refuse the refresh
ing winds of Summer because* I don’t
understand the wind. In fact, it
liloweth where it listeth, and we
bear the sound thereof, but we know
not from whence it comes or whither
it goes.
David started out in (he loginning
with God, and became the great king
of Is real, with God David was strong
enough to slay lions, bears. Goliaths,
"without God Dnvid fell from the
heights of a kingly character to is*
come a murderer at heart.
With God in the beginning of lils
splendid career Samson could slay a
thousand Philistines with the jaw
bone of an ass, and begin to free Is
real from her sworn enemies, with
out God in the end, Samson was a
blinded grinder and sport maker for
tlu* Philistines.
With God in tlu* beginning of his
life Solomon could build and dedicate
the world’s greatest temple, without
Him at its close he was a slave to
his passions.
A traveller was passing thru Cali
fornia where the azalea grows to per
fection, at the turn in the road the
fragrance of tin* flowering plant was
-wafted to the nostrils of tlu* travel
or in such profusion that it seemed
that the vale of Cashmere must be
close by, the guide told him that
soon they would be seeing the plants
and they did. How did he know that
they were nearing the plants. He
cause of their fragrance. How do 1
know that there is a God Because
of his work in all the world about
me. 1 see on every hand evidences
of his existence. 1 don’t have to ar
gue his existence, 1 know it. It
is folly to try to prove it. A great
Southern preacher went to church
and heard a Northern minister in a
sermon try to prove the existence of
God. After tlu* sermon the minister
asKed his hearer what he thought m
'the sermon. He told him that it
reminded him of two men in Geor
gia. One said that he would push
over Stone mountain and the other
said he would not let him and so the
two men stood there one on either
side of the great mountain of stone
with pine poles, one trying to push
it down and the other trying in his
weaknesss to steady it. You can see
the absurdity of both positions, and
the essential thing Ls to accept God.
and epen your heart an life and
let him make you what you ought to
be.
Did this magnificent world we live
in come by a chance. A thousand,
times no. It is said that the great
Jthn Newton had a friend who was

(By Rev. W. H. Faust )
a scoffer and an unbeliever, denying
■that God was behind the world and
teaching that all things come by a
chance. One day Newton had after
much pains made a wonderful globe,
this friend came in and was admir
ing it and naturally asked from
whence it came. Newton told him
that it came to his study by chance,
for the purpose of convincing him that
j his friends theory of the world was
[true. Of course the friend saw it and
as a result became a firm believer
in God. Leave ofi God and them
would be nothing. Not even a b< gin
ning, put God in the beginning of ai y
life or project, and there is bound to
be that success which Omnipotence
alone can and does bring. Before
all power, love, beauty, service, joy,
happiness pleasure in fact before till
things logically, and sensibly, comes
that being, who .when darkness was
upon tie* face of Hie deep spoke and
said let there be light, and there was
light. In Him is light, and without
him there can lie nothing but eter
nal darkness. He is the source of
all wisdom, and when one denies him
only ignorance is manifest, therefor<
we read: “The fool has said in his
heart there is no God.” Out of con
fusion came perfection, and that
which was chaotic became a well reg
ulated world, when the mind of the
Infinite grasped and modeled it in
his potential hand. All that he made
is subject unto him, our souls were
made by him, and they are restless
until they rest in Him.
The Son.
There arc denominations in the
country who deny the divinity of Je
sus, and teach that he is a mere
man, greater isissildy Ilian John or
Peter or Isaiah, but after all mere
man. If ('lirist be not God then
we are of all men the most
pitiable, and lie of all men is the
greatest impostor. He is either able
to save unio (lie uttermost all who
come unto God through him, or else
lie is able to save none, if he is
able to save, then he is God, Too
long have we as a people neglected
to study as we should typology. We
have not even the conception of the
.Tew of the sacrifice. Do we fully
realize that Christ is our redeemer,
and that he actually died for us, and
that those of us who accept him
through faith are to stand in the
presence of God clothed In his right
eousness. Jesus was King, and more
than king. He was prophet and as
such interpreted God for us in terms
of human comprehension. His incar
nation was in order that we might
see tin* love of God and get a con
ception of his fatherly care for this
world. Too long have we thought
of God as some mighty being,’cloth
ed with power and separated from
his creation by the gulf of divinity,
across which man could not pass.
Christ became man and gave us a
view of God that the world sorely
needed. Study the prophets of the
old dispensation and see that they
not only foretold future events, but
they advised about present conduct,
and taught men how to live in this
life so that eternity would be a con
tinuation of the state we move in
in this life. Again Jesus is Priest.
Once for all did he enter the holy
of holiness for us, and since the day
that the veil of the temple was rent
in twain to the present it has been
possible for us to boldly approach a
throne of Grace confident that we
could reeevie help in time of trouble.
This bountiful provision was made
i for our salvation, and yet men are
found who question the love of such
a father. Yonder at Ocean Grove for
a long while, at the foot of the
board walk flew a flag which could
be seen hourly by the great throngs
of pleasure seekers gathered there.
On it were these words: “In the
beginning God.” One day a large
crowd of ministers passed down
and were attracted by the inscrip
tion flying at the sea line. Dr.
Schaeffer, the eldest minister look
ed out over the restless waves and
then at the sign, and finally over
come with awe said, "And yet and
yet the fool hath said in his heart
there is no God.” In the presence
of the ocean one is profoundly stirred
but in the presence of God in Christ
we all stand amazed at such divine

KIDNEY REMEDY THAT
ACTS LIKE MAGIC.
I have been a terrible sufferer for
a number of years with kidney and
liver trouble, also nervous prostra
tion and health generally poor, con
stitution entirely run down until life
became a burden. I tried physicians
and every available remedy but found
nd relief. Was induced to give Dr.
Kilmer’s Swamp-Root a trial, which
acted like magic, and am happy to
say that I believe 1 am entirely cur
ed and now as good a man as ever.
1 believe it my duty to make this
public statement that I may help oth
ers who may be suffering from the
same trouble. Swamp-Root Is with
out question the greatest remedy in
the world. Anyone in doubt of this
statement or the authenticity can {ad

love. It makes us feel that we are
of importance, when God’s love
prompted him to give his son for us.
j i )t>w is it possible for any one to
read John 3:16 and ever feel the
same towards God again.
The fatherhood of God should
force us to feel our relationship as
brothers of those for whom Jesus
died. It is great to think of God
as omnipotent, omniscient and omni
present, but ; t is best of all to think
of him as a loving father, who sym
pathizes with us in all our troubles,
and that he who cares for the spar
rows and numbers the very hairs of
our heads, will never leave or for
sake us, if we with childlike faith
cling to him. EVen in darkness and
shadows, we can feel secure that
“Hie who watches over Is real slum
bers not nor sleeps.”
“Besides my baby’s crib at night,.
I lay upon my bed;
My little one could hear tlie storm,
And feared the dark she said,
The night was dark, the clouds were]
low,
The storm’s voice sounded wild,
So baby heart craved someone near,
Lest danger meet the child.
Yet not content, my baby girl,
For me just near to linger,
Her tiny hand stole out the bed,
And clasped around my finger.
I could not chide, refuse her plaint.
Be hardened to her tears;
So I must soothe her tears.
She understood no reason why,
1, too, a child about to rest,
My play and cares aside,
Can ask no dearer, sweeter boon
Than near thee to abide.
The night is dark, the clouds are low
The storm to me is wild.
For I, too, know no reason why,
Since 1 am but thy child.
My life, 0 father in thy han<J,
May little be or much;
But I. thy child shall be content,
If I may feel thy touch.
Then’ll not withhold thy care by
night.
By day thy help divine;
And dark, cloud, or storm are naught
My hand shall rest in thine.”
