First Baptist Church.
1 Sunday 11:00 A. M. the pastor will
speak on “The Houston Convention.”
Read and ponder the following pre
paratory to the evening sermon on
“The Modern Ten Commandments.”
The New Ten Commandments.
The “‘ten words” given to Moses
on Mt. Sinai form the foundation
stones of Cod’s eternal law for men.
Every Christian, almost every c itizen
of Europe and America, claims to be
lieve and follow then. But in very
truth they are denounced, ridicul
ed and disobeyed in every communi
ty the world over, Public opinion
has reversed them and set up the fol
lowing Ten Commandments:
1. Thou shall have other gods be
side Cod, even the Almighty Collar
and thine own ease and pleasure.
2. Thou shall make unto thee gra
on images of the son of Cod and how
down thyself to them.
.I. Thou shalt utter a curse to
fcbow thy manhood, for profanity Is
a virtue in man.
4. Thou shall do anything on the
iSabbath Day but keep it holy—sloop,
loaf, work or play. As it please thee
so do.
5. Honor thy father and mother,
but do not let their advice stand in
the way of thy plans.
6. Thou shalt kill thine enemy by
the thousand and thy neighbor by
means of thy subtle business deal
ings.
7. Thou shalt “see the worfd ,r in
Ihy youth, for prostitution is inevit
able.
S. Thou shall steal within Che law.
b. Thou shalt insinuate evil against
thy neighbor and punish It In the
newspapers .
10. Thou shalt covet all things.
Thou shalt covet thy neighbor’s Job:
thou shalt covet his trade and his
business iukJ his ass, and his house,
hd bit farm, and everything that is
V neighbor’s, so shalt thou catch
n off his guard nud gel them for
self.
ne mot these the Ten (Jommmid

KIDNEY REMEDY THAT
ACTS LIKE MAGIC, j
I have been a terrible sufferer for
a number of years with kidney and
Pver trouble, also nervous prostra
tion and health generally poor, con
stitution entirely run down until life
became a burden. I tried physicians
and every available remedy but found
no relief. Was induced to give Dr.
Kilmer’s Swamp-Root a trial, which
acted like magic, and am happy to
say that I believe I am entirely cur
ed and now' as good a man as ever.
I believe it my duty to make this
public statement that i may help oth
ers who may be suffering from the
same trouble. Swamp-Root Is with
out question the greatest remedy in
the world. Anyone in doubt of this
statement or the authenticity can ad
dress me as below. Yours very truly,

Honor to Rev. H. M. Rainey.
The Baptists have transferred Ptv
ry-Rainey Institute to the Christian
people and l wish for them unbound
ed success and hope to see ewry cit
izen of Auburn and surrounding sec
tion pull for a greater school. How
ever, we regret this great sacritiee
to the Baptists. Indeed, it. is sad to
see such stalwart Baptists as ISev.
H. N. Rainey, lose his fondest hope
and purpose in life; to see his name
cast in the dust of humility after
spending many thousand dollars to
build a school l**HXing his name that
his offspring could point with PC id
to the work of li hands when be
has passed over esc the other *ide ot
the river.
Will the good people of Auburn
and the Baptist denomination, tooth
er with other Christian people, let
his name be lost to memory from
this institution. I don’t believe- they
will.
; 1 am not courting notoriety or
•friendship by any means; I onh
want to place a flower to be seen
while living that will in a nnmsure
comfort and show him that we feel
grateful for the great work fcft has
done for Perry- Rainey Institute. We
want to see a beautiful marble shaft
with appropriate inscriptions, placed
to his memory on the campus of i’-
11. 1. that he may view while living,
and. keep his name sacred to the in
stitution in the ages to come.
Let every friend of P. R- I. lend
their help and means in this tribute
of love and esteem. We hope o\ei>
hoy and girl and former teacher at
p H. I. will help do this work to-
gether with every, Baptist church in
Barrow and Gwinnett counties, and
we feel sure many other Christian
people will, no doubt, be delighted
to contribute to this fund.
Write me the amount you will give
and any suggestion you may offer or
plan for the work.
1 will publish the names and the
amounts from time to time as 1 re
ceive them and consider any sugges-
tion made.
Let every friend consider they
are a committee to do this work and
get busy now. Yours respectful!*,

Temperance Notes.
(By Mrs. Harry Segars.)
For several years the W. C. T. U.
has endeavored to have a Medal con
test for the pupils of the Winder
Public school on Scientific Temper
ance.
This year Mrs. McCants has had
charge of the department and by her
interest and perseverance we have
this year quite a large number of es
says. The intermediate grades were
limited from 300 to ">OO words; high
school from 1500 to 2000 words.
The union wishes to thank Mrs.
McCants personally for her splendid
efforts and each teacher who has sq
carefully assisted the children in this
w'ork.
Charts, etc., have been taught the
pupils and we feel *af In saying the
foundation work by Prof. Huffaker
and the lady teachers will bear fruit
for the cause of temperance an hun
dred fold.
On Monday night the medals were
delivered by Miss Swinney as fol
lows:
Miss Mabel Jackson, First Prize.
Miss Obie Allen, Second Prize.
More whiskey and bigger barrels,

making a plea for pints and quarts.
