Mrs. Leila Hawley Patton, who
6 was in St. Mary’s hospital for five
weeks, has returned home and is con
valescing very rapidly to the delight
-of her many friends.
Prof. Rodgers and family arrived
in the city on last Thursday evening
and are at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
K. L. Hammond until they can got
.settled in their new home. They have
made many friends since then arriv
al and we trust that it will hold good
throughout the year. A school needs
an upright, Christian gentleman at
the front and then the borad and
patrons stands up for that teacher in
all that is just and right. Statham
is a thriving town and believes in
-doing things, and we have a school
building here of which we are proud
and hope to have a good school.
NEW CHAPEL.
The singing was well attended at
Chapel Sunday afternoon.
Miss Winnie Roberts visited rela
tives near Union last week.

The big rain last Saturday ended
the long drought in our section. Crops
were needing rain and everyone re
joiced to see everything refreshed
after several weeks of hot, dry,weath
er.
Miss Montine Smith has returned
from Oglethorpe county where she
has been visiting several days. She
was accompanied home by Miss N'ora
Sn-rth who will spend some time

Messrs. Lim and Kim, two bright
young Korean students at Emory col
lege, spent the latter part of the
week with friends here. On Friday
Mr. Lim gave a very interesting and
instructive address at the Methodist
church which was enjoyed and appre
ciated by those who heard it.
Rev. Landrum, of Ibacula, pastor
of the Methodist church, closed a
very successful revival meeting at
this place Sunday evening. Rev. Ven
able, of Griffin, assisted the pastor
in the meeting, preaching atr both
the morning and evening services dur
ing the entire week. The splendid
gospel sermons preached by this able
minister will long be remmebered as
a source of help and inspiration by
those who heard him.
