AMBITION.
,
(By E. H. Faust.)
The following was written by a
brother of the pastor of the First
Baptist church who has written foi*
a number of magazines, Scribners
among them.
Quickly the gliding time, allotted
thee for breath
Precedes the chilling twilight that
heralds Death.
If then Thou be wise, live on the
hill-tops,
Let these around you see and know
a Man,
And if they dare not suffer Thee—
they’ll deal Thee Death:
Far better ’tis to strive, and climb,
and even die,
Each effort brings Thee to a fairer,
dawn, and bears Thee
Momently, away from that dull, Car
avan > (
Whose goal is mere existence.
Suffer and strive, that when Life’s
little day.
Has ended, And your Earthly tasks
are passed away
That men when they consign Thee
to thy Earthly tomb
Shall not enshroud Thy record with
thy clay.
Notice to Patrons

a continuance of the liberal patronge accorded me,
and I am sure that I may promise for him promt
and courteous treatment.
All the accounts due the Bush Cash Market are
payable to me. Again thanking you for past favors
and wishing you a pleasant Yuletide season, I beg
to remain Yours truly,
