NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS.
Owing to tha increased demand foi
advertising space in The Newa, and
to the further fact that our mailing
list has almost doubled in the last
eight months, we are compelled tc
start our presses on the last run
early Thursday morning In order for
The News to reach our subscriber*
Friday. Therefore, to insure publica
tion of any article in The Newts
the week of issue, such article will
have to be in our office not later
than Tuesday night.
“Laugh and the world laughs with
you’’ sounds g<xxl, but it is devilish
hard to do when you have been
treated like a step-child by a fellow
that had sworn to deal on the square
with you.
The convening of congress Monday
introduced an interesting period to
thin country, and incidentally to the
whole world. There seems to Ivo
nothing of unusually great interest to
bo considered save the possible inaug
uration of anew military policy that
will result in a larger army and navy
If this should develop the action
would become one of massive char
acter, Involving not only the present
but the future of America.
COTTON.
In this week's issue we start a se
ries of advertising for the Atlanta
Warehouse Company. These ads dis
cuss some important subjects of inter
est to our farmer readers, and we
invite their attention to the adver
tisements. The important points de
veloped in these a<ls are:
Cotton as a security in the money
markets. ; i |
Cotton as a world monopoly possess
ed by the South.
The waste the South sustains thru
destruction of cotton by fire and de
terioration.
The selection of a proper market.
These are important subjects. The
man who has striven carefully to pro
dace cotton cannot afford to lose
even a portion of what he has earn
ed by tri'atiug indifferently or tin
Intelligently the concrete result of
his year's labor. r i

A PECULIAR IDEA OF JUSTICE.
This old world seems to be rocking
along on a dollar and cents basis.
We were impressed of tire fact
Tuesday night wh.en City Council
backed up the mayor in an illegal
and unwarranted act in the hope tha.
the man charged would cough up
ra her thin pay lawyers for vindica
tion. Aftir long deliberation and
much oratory, Council violated its
own laws by permitting the mayor
pro tern to name the punishment. Hh
honor, the mayor protem, reduced tin
mayor's fine of twenty-five dollars to
$1.75, thinking he had be<.n just. But
the xce’lent gentleman hailed before
tii 3 bar of justice, takes another view
of the matter and a cert.iorrari has
he n drawn, and a clean slate and
justification will he asked at the 1
hands of a real jurist, Judge C. H.
Brand.
It is a shame on this city that wrj
have a mayor's court run for revenue
only.
