STATHAM.
We welcome the new year with a
glad smile and a hearty handshake.
The going out of the old year and
the coming in of the new leaves and
greets us in peace and harmony with
each other. May we all strive to
make 1916 the happiest and best yeai
o f our lives. May it bring peace
and good will to all men.
Mrs. W. 1). Whitman had as her
guest during the holiday® her niece,
Miss Cox, of Athene.
Aliss Kvvie Snow from Snow’s Mill
visited Mrs. J. A. Williams last week
Little Miss Emma line Sykes had
as her guest last week Miss Jirad
berry.
Mrs. R. A. Nunnally spent two
weeks very pleasantly in Moultrie
with (her sister, Mrs. Turner.
Miss Helen Arnold spent the week
end in Bethlehem with Miss Ettie
Belle Harrison.
Dr. and Mrs. Boland motored) over
to Logaois vi He last week and were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hodge®.
Miss Jotmie Ix>u Camp of Athens
spent Sunday with Miss Laura Ma<
Weir.
Mrs. Sallie Wler had as her guest
during Christmas Miss Mary Doug-
las of Atlanta.
The many friends of Mrs. Gertrude
Gilbert regret very much her leaving
them. She goes to Bethlehem where
she has Charge of Bethlehem school.
Mbs Clarice Adams, of Campton
spent last Thursday night with Miss
Viola Arnold; on Friday Misses An
nold, Stella and Winnie Berry
motored to Anderson, S. C.,
The teachers have returned ready
for their work after spending the
holiday® with their parent®.

go to resume their studies.
Miss Sarah Lowe left Monday for
Mt. Bethel where she goes to fake
up her work in the school room.
W. M. Fite’s handsome home on
Broad street was destroyed by fire
on last Thursday evening. The or
igin of fire is unknown, but suppos
edly to be from flue defects. A good
deal of the furniture was saved blit
badly damaged. Mr. and Mrs. Fite
have rooms with Mrs. Lizzie McEl
hannon on Broad street.
The Bazaar given at the court
house by the Methodist ladies was
very successful. Quite a neat little
sum was realized.
Mrs. S. A. Boland entertained at
her beautiful home op last Tuesday
evening. There was a down-pour of
rain, but Mrs. Boland’s entertain
men;® are enjoyed so much that the
young people care not for rain, but
go. A musical program was carried
through successfully and then a salad
course, and then everybody declared
Mrs. Boland a fine bo6tess.
