Miss Viola Arnold, who is at Beth

end hero with her parents.

turned to Atlanta Sunday after spend
ing several days here with relatives.

The Sunbeam Society has a very
good attendance and has had some
interesting programs. Pro. Dempsey
often meet® with them and addis a
great deal by his helpful talks. A
junior choir is being organized and
good work is being done. Miriam
Nickelsom gave the largest contribu
tion to China at the Christmas offer
ing.
Monday after-moon at 3:00 o’clock
the Ladies Missionary Society of
the Baptist church held their first
meeting of the year at the home'
of Mrs. S. A.. Boland. The meeting
was presided over by Mrs. T. J.
Sykes. After reading of the script
ure lesson a prayer was offered for
the sisters in the heathen lands
by Mrs. Charles Grimwood. A read
ing was given by Miss Grace Grim
wood that was very touching and
also helpful. The program was car
ried out in full. Three new mem
bers were added. A delicious salad
course was served by little Mies Em
ma line Sykes and H-uth Whitman.
The ladies will hold their next
meeting with Mrs. E. H. Ix>we.
At the home of Dr. and Mas. S.
A. Boland last Thursday afternoon
the good pcop'e of St at ham and vicin
ity expressed their welcome to Bro.
Dempsey and wife in a very generous
shower. Bro. Dempsey is loud in his
praise of the loyalty of his people at
Statham, and says just keep your
eye on Statham and watch us grow.

HOME TALENT MINSTREL

That was a creditable performance
given by the home talent minstrel at
the court house on last Saturday ev
ening for the purpose of organizing
a Barrow County Booster Chib,
It was witnessed by an enthusias
tic audience and everybody seemed
well pleased with the entertainment
and many expressions of hearty con
gratulations and praise were bestow
ed on the management for the high
class entertainment.
The players were at the’ir best and
for more than an hour furnished wit
and fun for the audieaice.

Death of Mrs. Haynie.
Mrs. Haynie, mothtr of Mrs. Ma
rion Lay, died at the home of her
daughter in this city ear;* this morn
inig. She was the mother of John
Haynie and Mi's® Gurlie Haynie, also
of Winder. She had been ill for
some time, amd her death waA not
unexpected.
The funeral occurred today and
the interment was at Bethlehem.
Rev .John F. Yarbrough conducted
the services .

R. E. Hill are to the effect that he
is a very sick man, and little hope
is held out by hie physicians. He
is the father of Mr. B. H. Hill, of
this city, amd lives near Auburn.
