PREACHERS MEET AT STATHAM.
Fine Program and Good Time En
joyed by Winder Ministers
Conference.
One of the best sessions of the
Winder Ministers Conference sinci
its organization was held last Mon
day beginning at 10:30 o'clock at
the Baptist church at Statham.
Rev. Jno. H. Wood called the meet
ing to order and helpful progressive
reports of the Sunday school and
church work was made from all sec
tions and churches throughout the
country.
Promptly at 12 o'clock the ladies
served a bountiful dinner in the
Baptist church which was all that a
dinner on such an occasion could be.

A large number of local church
officials from the city and vicinity
were present and added much to the
social pleasure of the occasion.
All that could be done to make the
day one of intense enjoyment was
done by the royal hosts of the day.
A dinner that would Hit the palate
of a king was served by the good la
dies in Statham style. Hospitality
and good cheer was the order of the
hour.
Rev. W. M. Dempsey, the pastoral
host of the day has been in Statham
only a few months, but he is already
seeing things come to pass and with
the magnificent co-operation of his
people the prospects are bright for
a great future. There is not a town
in the State that has a higher moral

tcne that Statham. It is growing.
—filled with progressive business
firms, consecrated Christian men and
women, one of the best schools of
the State., presided over by Prof.
Rogers and his able corps of efficient
assistants and strong churches, its
prospects are indeed splendid.
Open motion of W. H. Faust it
was decided to corporate all the
county of Barrow and call it the
Barrow County Ministers Conference.
A committee composed of Revs. Jno.
H. Wood, Jno. F. Yarbrough, W. A.
Chastain, W. M. Dempsey and D. S.
Patterscn, was appointed to perfect
the organization. There is no liver,
more helpful conference in the State
than this one in Barrow.

CALLED TO MEET SAT., 4TH.
Will Fix Date for Holding County
Primary and Rules Governing
the Same.
The Democratic Executive Commit
tee of Barrow county is hereby call
ed to meet in the Superior Court
room at Winder, Georgia, on Satur
day, March the 4th, at 2 o’clock, for
the purpose of selecting delegates to
the Presidential Convention to be
held at Macon, Georgia, May the 3d,
1916, to consider the fixing of a
date for holding a primary election
for county officers, and of transac
ting such other business as may prop
erly come before this committee. All
members are urged to be present.

Protracted Services.
Protracted services will begin in
the Methodist church on the 12th of
March.
The pastor will be assisted by
Rev. H. C. Emory, of Warrenton.
Mr. Emory is a successful pastor
of the North Georgia Conference and
has served important charges for the
full term of four years allowed by
the Methodist church. The churches
served by Mr. Emory have made re
markable j/togress during his pastor
ate and the church in Winder is for
tunate in securing his services for
the coming meeting.
The music for the meeting was
under the direction of the local
music committee. All the people
are cordially invited to attend and
take part in these services.

The Knights of Pythias will have
their regular meeting Thursday night
March 2. Every member is request
ed to attend this meeting as we have
three candidates to put through the
degree work. You can’t afford to
miss it.

THE BARROW COUNTY
BOOSTER CLUB—ITS PURPOSE.
It is nothing more or less than
a Chamber of Commerce, Board of
Trade, Business Men's Association
Farmers Union, etc, combining all
the best features of each, and gov
erned by the same with additional by
laws, making it an inexpensive gi
gantic co-operative organization bear
ing a more distinctive name.
Its purpose is that of placing be
fore the people of the world, the
great resources of our county, its
opportunities for homeseekers, diver
sified farmers, stock raisers, invest
ors, etc., and setting forth the excel
lent opportunities for manufacturing
enterprises to locate in or near Au
burn, Bethlehem, Statham, and Win
der. All of which combined with
an ideal climate, educational and spir
itual advantages will be an incentive
to attract the minds of such people
as will be desirable citizens to locate
in our midst.
Every citizen in the county should
be directly interested in aiding to
make known our resources, and so
licit the assistance of those who are
able and willing to come and help
develop them.

Oil Plant Established.
Mr. J. H. Pledger, traveling sales
man for the Gulf Refining Company,
was in Winder Monday. His trip to
tliis, city was in the interest of his
company in the matter of erecting
a large oil plant in Winder. It will
be located near the junction of the
Gainesville Midland and Seaboard
railways.
The let lias been secured and work
will begin at an early date.
In Serious Condition.
Mr. W. H. Sheats, who suffered
a stroke of paralysis some ten days
ago, is reported to be in a s.erious
condition, and his relatives and
friends are alarmed about his
chances for recovery.

PERMANENT CHAIRMAN.
Of Barrow County Executive Com
mittee at Mass Meeting Saturday.
Col. Pratt Secretary.
Pursuant to a call which had been
previously published, a mass meet
ing of Barrow citizens met in tlm
court house last Saturday at noon
for the purpose of electing a Detno--
cratic Executive Committee to serve
for the ensuing two years. The meet
ing was called to order by Col. W. H
Quarterman, temporary chairman,
with Mr. R. O. Ross, temporary sec
retary. Col. Quarterman was unani
mously chosen as permanent chair
man of tile first Democratic' Execu
tive Committee of Barrow county,
with Mr. J. C. Pratt, secretary.
The following committeemen were
chosen from the various districts:

Chandlers—J. M. Ross.
Jones —W. H. Thomas.
Bethlehem —E. S. Harris.
Ben Smiths —G. F. Edwards.
Auburn—J. O. Hawthorn.

The following resolution was in
troduced and adopted:
“With a view to promoting the
best interests of Barrow dounty and
the entire Ninth Congressional Dis
trict of Georgia, we offer the name
oi our fellow citizen, the Honorable
Richard B. Russell, Chief Justice or
the Court of Appeals of Georgia, as
a caunidate for congress from this
district, and we believe that his
long experience in the legal and pub
lic affairs of Georgia, amply qualify
him for any position he might seek,
and especially qualify him to serve ir
the National House of Congress,
Therefore, he it, Resolved;
“That we in mass meeting assem
bled do hereby urge him to enter the
race lor Congress frem the ninth dis
trict, and should he so decide to en
ter the race we pledge our support
to him.”
