HUSBAND RESCUED
DESPAIRING WiFE
After Four Years of Discouraging
Conditions, Mrs. Bullock Gave
Up in Despair. Husband
Came to Rescue.
Catron, Ky.—ln an interesting lettei
from this place, Mrs. Bettie Bullock
writes as follows: “I suffered for four
years, with womanly troubles, and during
this time, 1 could only sit up for a little
while, and could not walk anywhere at
all. At times, 1 would have severe pains
in my left side.
The doctor was called in, and his treat
ment relieved me for a while, but I was
soon confined to my bed again. After
that, nothing seemed to do me any good.
I had gotten so weak 1 could not stand,
and I gave up in despair.
At last, my husband got me a bottle of
Cardui, the woman’s tonic, and I com
menced taking it. From the very first
dose, I could tell it was helping me. I
can now walk two miles without its
tiring me, and am doing my work.”
If you are all run down from womanly
troubles, don’t give up in despair. Try
Cardui, the woman’s tonic. It has helped
more than a million women, in its 50
years of wonderful success, and should
surely help you, too. Your druggist has
sold Cardui for years. He knows what
it will do. Ask him. He will recom
mend it. Begin taking Cardui today.

There Is more Catarrh in this section ot
the country than all other diseases put
together, and until the last few y ,- ars
wus supposed to be incurable. For a
great many years doctors pronounced it a
local disease and prescribed local reme

with local treatment, pronounced it Incut

Macon, Feb. 24. —When city de
tective raided 24 saloons and failed
t<. find any incriminating evidence,
City Attorney W. D. McNeil, former
State Senator, asked the Chief of
Police to give him the services of
two special officers. “I’ll locate the
stuff,” he declared.
The first two raids resulted in the
seizure of f>o barrels of whiskey. The
third netted four casks, and the
fourth visit to a saloon revealed
throe quart bottles.
The United States* District Attor
ney’s office is co-operating with the
city on an effort to break up the li
quor traffic here. Several dealers
will be prosecuted tor not having in
ternal revenue license.
. City Council probably will pass an
ordinance making it a violation of
law to purchase or drink whiskey in
a saloon or blind tiger, and prescrib
ing a chaingang sentence for the vi
olators who refuse to tell where he
obtained the liquor. The ordinance,
drawn by the City Attorney and will
be voted on next week. —Georgian.
1916—Where Are We?
At the front.
On the firing line.
Holding trenches dug and captur
ed.
Victory has been won on various
battlefields.
And sobriety is still winning
against alcohol.
Tliere is hardly a nation indilfer
ent. Time will bring success. Help
this year.
Where Are We? What has a year
emphasized ?
Industrially:—Ninety-five per cent
of mileage is held by railroads in
sisting on no-drink employes. Bos
ton and Maine abolishes liquor sell
ing on trains and the "N. Y., N. H.
and H., at Boston Terminal. A
thousand companies and corporations
are on record in favor of abstinence.
There is a definite awakening among
workmen to the fact that alcohol de
feats success. Leaders like Lennon,
Mitchell, Stelzle and Keir Hardle can
be quoted as opposed to intoxicants.
In Education: —Yale, Dartmouth
and Williams decide against wet re
unions. Princeton’s president urges
the university to keep step with the
great moral movements. Nearly two
sccre college publications exclude
liquor advertisements, and 600 prom
inent daily and weekly newspapers,
with magazines like Scribners, take
the same stand, in secondary schools
low vitality is a recognized effect of
alcohol at home.
Health: —New York’s commission
er proposes to inform the people re
garding the sick-benefits of drink
ing. The Pharmacopoeia for 1916
does not include whiskey and bran
dy as medicines. Public welfare is
seen to have values superior to
speeding, alcohol - using chauffers.
Life insurance companies regard
even the moderate drinker as a high
priced risk.
Civic Service and Civic Good:
Kansas declines to accept as candi-1
datts for the civil list, those who
drink. Citizens realize that the sa
loon makes for economic waste. High
taxes are caused by high life —on a
low plane. License tees make extra
expense. Homes, schools, churches
are to exceed in value a pol
icy which defeats their aims and sub
stitutes courts, jails, police and in
stitutions for the poor, insane and
inebriate.
Recreation:—lt finds no true val
ues in intoxicants. Manager and ex
perts say, as in other business, alco
hol slows down. Ty Cobb, Ban John
son, Connie Mack, McGraw, Ouimet,
Brickley, Jes Willard, agree to this
without umpire or referee.
Military Life: —It no longer stinu
lalts in theory. From over sea The
Crime of the Ages declares on field,
in hospital and training camp against
liquors. Js'on-belligerents refuse to
permit the mis-use of grain and po
tatoes for alcohol.—Union Signal.

“SPORTS.”
Sports are a distinct class of in
dividuals that receives an indescrib
able respect. Their position in some
ways is commendable, and is envied
by some 18-year-old youths, but is
generally abhorred by the more ex
treme considerates. The greatest
drawback to the ordinary Sport is
that so much individuality promotes
a grand sprint directly opposite to
places occupied by saints.
He has many peculiarities and ad
vantages. His chief peculiarity, al
though he has no monopoly on it, is
his evident concentrated interest on
his costume. Apparently he has ex
ceeded the Parisan output by 90 days
He is constructed in many models:
The thin cigarette model; the porky
bull neck model; the hump-back mod
el, and the 1911, 1913 1914, 191;? and
the 1916 model. The 1916 model,
besides being geared for greater
speed and being a self-starter, has
many other qualities that the 1914
model is exempt from; the most note
worthy being his ability to dispose
of cold cash. You can donate a
1916 model Sport SIOOO and he will
begin business by investing $985.00
in a Gasoline Machine; will deposit
SIO.OO to obtain a conspicuous check
book which extends 6 inches from
the top of his pocket and the remain
der $5.00 in half dollars and quar
ters enjoys full freedom of his
right pants’ pocket with the excep
tion of his right hand which auto
matically changes position of each
piece ol money when he is convers
ing with one or more individuals; in
short, if SIOOO compose his total re
sources and his character is his li
abilities, he will be an involuntary
bankrupt in less than 24 hours.
How to Prevent Croup.
Wen the child is subject to at
tacks of croup, see to it that he
eats a light evening meal, as an over
loaded stomach may bring on an at
tack, also watch for the first symp
tom-hoarseness, and give Chamber
lain's Cough Remedy as soon as
the child becomes hoarse. Obtaina
ble everywhere.—Advt.
