ceived this week from A. J. Gillen,
proprietor of a large -department
store at Mtaxeys, Ca., and gives fur
ther evidence of the remarkable re
sults now being accomplished by Tan
nc throughout the south.
Mr. Gillen said: "I have a custo
mer hero who was in bed three
years, and did not go to u meal at
any time. She had five fine physician

IMPORTANT TO PENSIONERS.
The state pension department has
mailed out a circular informing the
pensioners erf Georgia of the ajets as
passed by the recent general assem
bly affecting ordinaries and pension
ers, as follows:
A resolution to (pay the ordinaries

paid for 1915.
A resolution appropriating $33,000
to pay the unpaid pensions for 1916.
A resolution appropriating $175,000
in addition to the $875,000 for 1917,

CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY.
On larit Sunday, August 27, the
children and grand children met at
the home of Mr. George W. Ham
mond on North Broad street to en
joy the day and celebrate the 60th
birthday of Mr. G. W. Hammond.
There were present Mr. J. W.
Mhynard and wife, Azalee Hammond,
Vera Mae, Irene and Susies Mfl\ J.
tf. Foster and wife, Carrie Hammond
Foster; their children, Hoyt, Floyd
ami Cleo; Mr.. Lester L. Hammond
and wife; Bertha Nickelson Ham
mond and baby, Aunell.
On August 27, 1856, in Chandler
district, Jackson county, now Bar
row, and near the waters of Beech
creek, there lived David C. Ham
nond, who wed Jane Hewitt, and
to tie m wer. bom a Doy. They chris
toned him in the name of the father
of these United States, George Wash
ington. He was a wee tot of four
years when Itlie civil war broke out
and by the time it closed could do
pretty good Work on the farm —for
Ik ys had ito work in those days. At
the age of twenty-cue he was em
ployed by Mr. L. J. Johnson to work
in a blacksmith shop. In this shr~
also Forked Jo M. HuynLe and their
uncle, J. J. Hewitt.
This cld shop stood a short dis
tance west of the old Johnson home,
and a half mile from thie Mulberry
rliver. In this stream often went
G. W. Hammond, Jo M. Haynie, J.
Will Johnson and Jerry L. Johnson
to bathe or fish.
These two first named boys work
ed together and talked of their
hearts and counted ajt the same
house. Finally they wed sisters; G.
W. Hammond married Susan Firan
ces Segars, and Joseph M. married
Mary C. Segars, on Nov. 17, 1878.
They were daughters of William R.
and Susan Segars.
Tile morning wfas pleasantly spent
(and) the dinner was served at the
proper time. This dinner was fine,
and will be long remembered by
the se present. In the aflternoon we
hod another treat coming our way.
We were served to ice cream ami
ate a plenty. lx>ng may this worthy
couple live and may they meet
again each year, to pass the pleas
ant hour in social unison. For in
such we learn to love each other

administration and receive letters on
the first Monday in September, 1916.
