IN MEMORY
Of Our Mother and Slater
Martha Edward*.
It has been said by many that she
did what she could, and truthfully
it was said, for when we begin to
study her life we can soon see that
in her home she was a character of
noble example, facing life with
faithfullness, and without a murmur.
When God saw fit to take from
her her companion and she became
the head of the family a few years
ago then the responsibility of mak
ing a home fell on her and from the
life of the five boys and two girls
she left behind we see some of the
noble things she did.
Then speaking concerning her
church relations we feel that too
much could not be said for as long
a Sister Edwards was able she was
ever at her place with her words of
encouragement ever persuading boys
and girls to live a noble life for
the Christ. Well does the writer re
member the words of encouragement
she gave him many times when it
seemed that difficulties were too
gnat to overcome. Not only did she
help by her words of encouragement
but by her prayers, and her means
and not only did she help the writer
but all with whom she came in con
tact. For thirty odd years she re
mained a true and loyal member of
Bethel church of which she was a
member at her death, which took
place Oct. 2. Though sad as it seemed
to give h •>r up, she was not affraid
to meet death, and from her experi
ence of grace we know that our loss
is lur eternal gain.
Altho, when we speak of mother, we
speak concern! ig the sweetest name
under heaven and when we take moth
er from a boy or girl we have Waken
the best friend they have, but God
knows best so we beg the children
who are left behind to mourn with
that of the other relatives ana
friends to be submissive to the will
of God for we know from the study
of God’s eternal word that the re
deemed soul shall never die, and that
Jesus taught it very forcibly that
they that loved him he would re
ceive them. He says, Let not your
heart be troubled. Again we find
that now we see thru a glass, but dark
ly, but then face to face, so looking
at that we can’t see Why God saw
lit to take Mother, but wa know it
was for a purpose, and some day if
true to God we shall understand.
We find the great apostle John in
Revelations using these words. “Be
faithful unto death and I will give
you a 'rown of life.’’ Again we
find Paul speaking concerning the
reward of the redeemed soul in
these words, “For we know if our
earthly house of this tabernacle were
dissolved we have a house off Joel
and building not made with hands
eternal in the htavens.” Again we
find in Uolossians these words, Wher
Christ shall appear yt shall also *ap
pear with him in glory.’’
These with many more should be of
consolation to us in our hours o
sadness, to know that when Christ
shall come the second time that the
redeemed loved ones shall come with
him and then we shall see them face
tto face and know them, and besides
there will be no goodbyes but eier
nally singing praises to God.
So let us not weep, for mother is
not dead but has fallen asleep to
wake in that final judgement morn
ing. Therefore let us be true to
the examples she has left us and
above all submissive to God.
To the family I will say you have
my tendereet sympathies and pray
ers to go with you. May God bless
the name of our sister forever.
One that knew her. Pastor.
