Avery happy occasion of the past
week was a theater party of Thursday
evening given by Mrs. Iteba Vonder
lieth in honor of her sister, Mrs. W. T.
Hamby, of Carrollton. The guests as
sembled at the Winder Soda Company
where refreshing ices were enjoyed.
The party included Mrs. Hamby, Mrs.
Annie Wood, of Atlanta, Mrs. W. A.

National Defense Committee
To Meet With Mrs. Horton.
The Woman’s Committee, Council of
National Defense, will meet at the
home of Mrs. W. C. Horton on Friday
afternoon, May 10th, at three o’clock.
All the officers from Statham, Auburn,
Carl, Bethlehem and Winder and a
few appointed by the chairman are
urged to attend and to report all war
work done in their organizations since
March loth.

Third Liberty Loan drive, delightfully
entertained her corps of workers at a
sandwich feast Friday afternoon at the
Winder Soda company’s parlors. Sand
wiches, cream and cake were served
and the occasion, though thoroughly
informal, was a most delightful affair.

Mrs. R. V. Moore Hostess
At Pretty Party.
One of the most enjoyable occasions
of the week was the lovely five hun
dred party at which Mrs. Vernon
Moore entertained Monday afternoon
at the home of ehr parents, Mr. and
Mrs. J. M. Brooksher, on Center street.
The entire lower floor of the hand
some home was thrown open to the
guests and made more attractive with
decorations of ferns and pink roses. At
the conclusion of the games of progres
sive five hundred delicious cream and
cake were served.

ternoon at her home on Athens street.
Tall vases of pink and white roses
were used effectively as decorations.
After a series of games of five hun
dred a dainty salad course was served.

turned to Kingsport, Tenn., after a
pleasant visit to relatives here.

work in Atlanta.
Mrs. tV. M. Holsenbeck has returned
to her home in Winder after a pleas
ant visit to Miss Maggie Belle Arnold.

Frank Moorefleld, of Gainesville, were
in Winder Wednesday measuring the
distance between the G. M. and the
Seaboard depots.
Mr. and Mrs. G. N. Perkins and Miss
Belle Harrison, of Betlehem, are the
guests of Mrs. A. T. Harrison.
Mr. A. H. O'Neal, of Decatur, was in
Winder Tuesday on business and shak
ing hands with friends.
Mrs. John H. Mashburn and little
daghter, Annie Lou, are spending the
week in Elberton, visiting relatives and
friends.

Arnold and wife accompanied Rev. W.
H. Faust to his regular appointment at
Bethabara church Sunday afternoon
and report a great crowd hi attendance
upon the service.
Revs. W. 11. Faust, S. W. Arnold and
T. C. Buchanan attended the revival
services at the First Baptist church in
Athens Monday and heard a fine ser
mon by Dr. Ilaymore who is assisting
Dr. Lynch in the meeting.
Mrs. E. J. Hagan and daughter, Yer
nelle, after spending several weeks
with the former’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. S. F. Pirkle, left for Atlanta. Af
ter spending several days there with
relatives they will return to their home
in Birmingham, Ala.
Mrs. Karl Hoye, of Valdosta, who
came Monday for a visit with her sis
ter-in-law, Mrs. It. W. Wallace, was
called home Wednesday by telegram
on account of the arrival of her broth
er who is in the naval service and had
obtained a few days’ furlough.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Carrington, Mr.
and Mrs. Junius Carrington, Miss Rosa
Roberts, accompanied by Sgt. E. J.
Jacoby and Allen Carrington, of Camp
Wheeler, motored to Athens Sunday
afternoon and were guests of Mr. and
Mrs. A. H. Parnell.—Athens Banner.
The regiment to which Mr. Fleming
Thompson is attached has been ordered
to the front. Mr. Thompson was in
Winder Wednesday night telling rela
tives and friends goodbye. For many
years Fleming was the popular cashier
of the Farmers Bank, was reared in
Winder and has many friends here who
wish him well and take a pardonable
pride in his demonstrations of loyalty
to his country.
It will be of interest to the many
friends of Misses Montine Robinson
and Evelyn Radford to know that at a
recent pupils’ recital held at Brenau
College Conservatory, Gainesville, they
were both asked to give a piano solo.
Their selections were rendered in a
beautiful and artistic manner. These
young ladies have musical ability and
are doing excellent work in the con
servatory.
Miss Ella Maddox, of Elberton, will
spend the week-end here as the guest
of Mrs. Lee Fortson.
The Woman’s Missionary Society of
the Methodist church will meet with
Mrs. Thirza Odum next Thursday af
ternoon at 5 o’clock.

Lodge No. 99, the following resolution
was introduced and laid upon the table
to be taken up and finally acted upon
at the next regular session, to be held
Thursday evening, May 16:
“Resolved, That the trustees of Rus
sell Lodge No. 99. Knights of Pythias,
be authorized to advertise the city lot
belonging to said lodge for 50 days in
the local newspapers, to be sold at
public outcry before the courthouse
door and the proceeds be invested hi
Liberty Loan Bonds.”
