The supporting Shoulders of Strength of Ajax Road King
give it “more tread on the road” —more contact area.
That means longer life —a better grip. See, too, the big
triangle barbs. They grip the road for safety.

The Farmer’s
Share
Live stock is marketed from
farmer to consumer at a lower
cost than almost any other farm
product.
The United States Department of
agriculture reported in 1916 that the
farmer gets for his cattle "approxi
mately two-thirds to three-fourths” of
the final retail price paid by the con
sumer for the resulting beef.
Under normal conditions, the farmer’s
share of retail prices of various farm
products is approximately as follows:
Butter 71 per cent
CATTLE 66% to 75 per cent
Eggs 65 per cent
Potatoes 55 per cent
Poultry 45 per cent
Fruits 35 per cent
The difference between farmer’s price
and retail price represents the necessary
expenses of packing, freight and whole
sale and retail distribution.
Swift & Company not only performs
the manufacturing operations of pre
paring cattle for market in its well
equipped packing plants, but it pays the
freight on meat to all parts of the
United States, operates 500 branch
distributing houses, and in most cases
even delivers to the retail butcher. All
this is done at an expense of less than 2
cents per pound, and at a profit of only
about %°f a cent P er pound of beef.
Large volume of business and expert
management, make possible this indis
pensable service to the live-stock raiser
and to the consumer, and make possible
the larger proportion of retail prices
received by farmers.

MAKE PEAS FREE
FROM THE WEEVIL
Special Committee Pleased
With Results of Visit to
Washington in Protest of
Cotton Price-Fixing.
Atlanta, Ga„ May 22—On account of
the extraordinary large supply of Geor
gia field peas, the stateWlepartment of
agriculture, through its market bureau,
is seeking to induce farmers ail over
the state to properly treat peas so that
they will be free from the weevil.
In the bureau’s current market bul
letin attention is called to the fact that
weevils in peas can he controlled by
the use of carbon bisulphide, just the
same as is done with the corn weevil.
The peas should be placed in barrels
or boxes and the carbon bisulphide
put in a pan or shallow vessel on top,
and then covered with a heavy cloth.
The fumes of the bisulphide will sink
through the cloth killing the weevils
and the eggs. The process should be
repeated in sixty days. As carbon bi
sulphide is quite inflammable the same
precautions should be exercised in
using it as are exercised in using gas
oline. It should not, under any cir
cumstances, be exposed to a flame.
The department has received much
encouragement in its efforts to popu
larize the Georgia field pea and the re
sult will undoubtedly be a mbch larger
consumption this year of this whole
some food product than ever before in
the history of the state.
Returning from Washington, D. C.
the committee delegated by the Geor
gia farmer’s convention, which met in
Atlanta on May 1, reports successful
and satisfactory results in connection
with its mission in opposing any con
gressional action fixing the price of
cotton.
J. H. Mills, president of the Georgia
Farmers Union, and a member of the
committee which was delegated for
this mission, upon his return to Atlan
ta, made this statement:
“Our trip was successful from every
standpoint. We held conference in con
junction with E. A. Calvin, the Wash
ington representative of the Cotton
States Official Advisory Marketing
Board, which is composed of Farmers
Unions president, commissioners’ of
agriculture and market directors of the
cotton states. We went over every
phase of t lie situation and feel that
close attention is being given the in
terests of the Georgia farmer by all our
delegation in congress in conjunction
with our marketing board, which is
maintaing an office in Washington for
statistical purposes.”
Widespread interest attaches anions
farmers, cotton seed crushers and all
others interested in the cotton seed in
dustry, in a meeting which they have
been invited to attend in Atlanta on
Friday, May 124th.
This meeting lias been called by Sec
retary I). F. McClatchey, of the state
food administration, in order that those
interested might meet I)r. George H.
I)onny and Hugh Humphries, of the
cotton seta] division of the United
States food administration, who will
he here to go over the situation wtih
them.
At this meeting full and free discus
sion of the cotton seed industry will be
solicited, with a view of fixing rules
and regulations for the coming season.
Those invited and urged to attend in
clude farmers, officials of farm organi
zations. glnners, cotton seed buyers,
crushers, the commissioners of agricul
ture of Georgia and Florida, and other
state officials interested in agricultural
markets.
With reference to the cotton seed sit
uation, the Georgia state bureau of
markets has always taken the position
that if a price is to be fixed for cotton
sin'll, it should be fixed upon the same
parity with hog lard which existed
prior to the war. The difference be
tween the price of refined oil and hog
lard before the war was 2 cents a
pound; the difference today is 6 cents.
The contention of the bureau is, there
fore, that the administration should
either bring down the price of hog
lard to the 2 cent difference, or put the
price of cotton seed to the point where
the same pre-war parity will be main
tained.

A SOUL-WINNING
REVIVALMEETING
Series of Revival Will Begin at
First Baptist Church Here
June 3d.—Pastor Faust
Will Conduct Services.
On June 3 the First Baptist church
here begins a two weeks’ soul-winning
campaign. Special music has been pro
vided for. Pastor L. Elmer Dutton,
of the First Baptist church of Greens
boro, Ga„ wiil lead the song services
daily.
Mr. Duton has had charge of the
music for the Georgia Baptist conven
tion for several years, is an accom
plished musician, a splendid cornetist
and one of the state’s most genial and
affable as well as consecrated and ef
ficient Christian workers. The chorus
of all the churches and the singers of
the city have been cordially invited to
take part in these services.
The preaching will be done by special
request of the church by Rev. W. H.
Faust, the pastor.
Those who know him will realize
that he believes in the Book and
preaches the old-fashioned gospel with
power. No preacher in Georgia in the
active pastorate does more evangelistic
work, and many churches have had
him year after year to conduct their
evangelistic meetings.
Maybe the Baptist members could
have secured a greater preacher, but
the people realize that they could have
secured no one who loves Winder, its
people, its churches and its progress
better than their pastor does.
Backed up by the loyal members of
the First church, the Christian preach
ers and workers of the town and the
Holy Spirit, the prospects are propiti
ous for a meeting that will produce
abiding and gracious results.
The gospel note throughout the meet
ing will ring as clear as a bugle call,
sin will be exposed and the cross up
lifted and tlie mighty love of God pro
claimed with unfaltering faith.
Begin to make your plans to attend
every service and pray God for a great
harvest for the entire city and comity
as a result of the services.
WANTS TO PASS THE
“GOOD THINGS ALONG”
“I Just Want to Tell Everybody What
Tanlac Did For Me,” Says Mrs. J.
M. Mays, of Augusta, Ga.
“I've always believed in passing a
good tiling along and that’s just why I
want to tell everybody what Tanlac
has done for me,” said Mrs. J. M. Mays,
wife of a well-known coal and wood
dealer, residing at 1719 Twelfth street,
Augusta, Ga., some time ago.
"For fuorteen long miserable months
I suffered with disordered kidneys, se
vere headaches anil other serious com
plications until my life was just one
day of torture after another,” she con
tinued. “My appetite failed me entire
ly and food seemed to poison my sys
tem. My extreme nervousness made it
almost impossible for me to sleep and
I was dragged down by one trouble
after another until I thought every
day would be my last and was told that
an operation would l>e the only hope
for my life. I refused to allow the
operation, however, and after reading
what Tanlac had done for a friend of
mine, I tried it as a last resort.
“I honestly believe that Tanlac is
the best medicine in the world! Right
after taking the first few doses I be
gan to improve and 1 have picked up
In weight until I am now fifteen pounds
heavier than when I started taking
Tanlac. I haven’t had a headache since
I began using it and my kidneys have
stopped troubling me entirely. I am
relieved of all that dreadful suffering
and am in better condition than I have
been for fourteen months past.”
Tanlac is sold in Winder by G. W.
De La Perriere and Sons and by one
established agency in every town. —adv
WHAT YOU ARE WORTH
TO YOURSELF AS CAPITAL
Did you ever figure out what you are
worth to youself?
Did you ever think that, as a human
being, you have a certain value which
can be set down in dollars and cents.
You can reckon it from your wages
or salary.
Your annual income represents the
interest on a certain amount of capital.
Suppose you receive SI,OOO per year.
At 4 per cent this is the interest on
$25,000. If you could turn yourself in
to “capital” this would be your value.
Whenever you increase your energy,
intelligence or effectiveness in your
business, you capitalize yourself at a
higher figure. When you can pull
down $4,000 a year from your services,
you cun set your personal valuation at
SIOO,OOO.
