At a meeting of Macon citizens,
Mayor' Toole recently urged the giving
of a fee simple title to all Mercer prop
erty. l)r. K. W. Weaver secured from
the chamber of commerce a pledge for
$100,(KK) and assured the Macon peo
ple that, by 1937, when this college
reaches its 100th anniversary it will
have ten million endowment. Dr.
Weaver is now dean of one of the Bap
tist schools and colleges of the state.
The Lithonia Church raised $12,200
in the recent campaign and recently
added S3OO to the salary of Pastor T.
C. Burrell.
ltev. Alex W. Bealer, famous news
paper correspondent, has just accept
ed the call to the Blakely church.
Dr. William Russell Owen, of Phil
adelphia, has just come to the First
Baptist church of Macon as pastor.
This is one of the greatest combinations
in the south as pastor and church.
The First Baptist church of Colum
bus has raised its pastor’s salary to
$4,200. Dr. S. B. Couins is doing a
great work with this tine body.
The Baptist church at Commerce has
just decided to elect six new deacons,
and at the same meeting raised the
pastor's salary $400.00.
Washington, (Ja.. Baptists have re
cently increased the salary of Pastor
Grice handsomely and are now adding
a thirty thousand dollar annex to
their already commodious plant.
First, church, Milledgeville, at a re
cent meeting of its deacons and mem
bers raised Pastor Wilkinson’s sala
ry $600.00.
Greensboro church has secured the
services of ltev. Jackson 11. Hun is
as pastor to succeed Rev. L. E. Dut
ton, who recently went to Cartersville.
The church at Lawrenceville Is with
out pastor. Rev. S. S. Mathis who
served them so well has accepted the
pastorate of the church at Tignall,
Ga.
The First Baptist church at Athens
is rapidly working on its new
000.00 building. Pastor Jus. W. Lynch
is rejoiced over the spirit shown by
the loyal membership.
Tin* Baptist Tabernacle, Athens, Rev.
E. H. Jennings, pastor, is erecting a
$75,000.00 edifice on' Prince avenue,
that is to be one of the most up to date
church houses in the state.
