should Georgians be read out of the party

We note that Bob Ross, of the Winder

Rush Burton w*ould let it be known through

A FINE SERMON.
Last Sunday morning at the school audito

Commerce.to hear the commencement sermon.
Eloquent and impressive, he pleased the
vast audience by delivering one of the finest
pulpit addresses Winder people have ever
listened to.
The graduating exercises Mondyn evening
concluded the commencement exercises.
This year’s graduating class was the largest
the school has ever turned out. and is said to
be one of the brightest.

COMMUNITY CHAI’TAI’QI A.
Beginning today Winder will have five days
of Chautauqua. Some fine attractions arc on
the program, and it is hoped that M inder
and vicinity will rally to the call for better
tilings.
People want amusement, and they are going
to have some kind. Give them the right sort.
The Bell Manufacturing Company, through
its active head. Mr. It. L. Eavenson, set the
Chautauqua pace by purchasing 7.1 season
tickets for the use of the company’s employ
ees. This shows a commendable spirit, and
the company is to be congraulated for its
foresight and tbougbfulness. We feel sure
every one who attends the Chautauqua will
be doubly repaid.

REI CROSS CALLS FOR CLEAN I P DAY.
The Red Cross, always sponsoring some
thing that means better and clegnor man
hood, has taken the lead In a City Beautiful.
Friday, June 4t.h, has been designated by this
organization as Clean Up Day, and of the
move the following have something to say:
Mrs. J. W. Carrington, Jr.: We ask the help
nnd co-operation of the different organizations
of the city—the W C T U, Civic Par
ent Teachers Association—in fact all who
are interested in the health of the town —to
put forward special effort on June 4th to make
this clean up day a success. Winder is one
Of the most beautiful little cities in Ge#r
gia. Why not make it the cleanest?
John H. Wnod: It is with pleasure that I
add my endorsement to the plan of putting
a Red Cross nurse in Barrow county. The
people, all the people, need trained leadership
along all lines. This is particularly true along
the line of health. The movement, marks a
step in the way of reul Christian civilization.
We are with the organization for a clean-up
day on June 4th.
Dr. W. T. Randolph, Chairman of the
Board of Health: We, the Board of Health,
heartily endorse the work being done by the
chairman and nurse of the Red Cross chap
ter and stand ready to co-operate with them
in every way possible. The health of our
pie should come first, and every step we ad
vance along the road to better health means
a happier people. Friday, June 4tlT7 has been
set apart as clean up day. Give special care to
basements, stables, hog pens, chicken yards,
etc. The city will have extra help on that day
to clean up the streets and haul your trash.
J. 11. Maqnard, Mayor: Information has
come to me that the local chapter of the Red
Cross has secured n county nurse for Winder
and Barrow county. This will be a great pro
tection against disease if we will all heed the
advice of this nurse, ns we all need informa
tion on how to keep well. The mayor and
council will co-operate with the Red Cross and
the Civic League in cleaning up and beautify
iny the city.
G. A. Johns. I am glad to add my hearty
and unqualified approval of the work being
•lone by the local chapter of the American Red
Cross in securing a trained nurse for Barrow
county. The health of the citizens is the
county’s best asset, and every effort hi the
direction of promoting and conserving the
health of the citizens of our comity should
have the active and aggressive co-operation
of every one.
WINDER PHYSICIANS ADVANCE PRICES
For a long time this section of the state Ims
been favored with a mighty tine set of physi
cians who cared for the health of their pa
trons at a very moderate fee. No city in the
state has a tier set. of practitioners than Win
der. Keeping pace with the necessity of things
we learn that our physicians have recently
revlsed their schedule of price* to read some
thing like this:
Obsteties, $20.00 and mileage. Dressings, sl.
Office consultation $1.00; Dislocations and
freatures. $.1.00; day visits in city. $2.00;
night visits in city. $.‘5.00: day visits outside
city, $2.00 for first mile nad 50c per mile for
each additional mile. Night visits outside city
$2.00 for first mile and SI.OO per mile for each
additional mile. Stop calls $2.00.
The above indicates some of the changes
made necessary by tin* high cost of living. Wo
understand that, all other professional ser
vices not included in the above have been ad
vanced in proportion.
ltX<>sts to le sick, but it costs more to die,
if you expect to be laid to rest in a high
priced coffin and occupy higli-priced ground,
covered with high-priced flowers.
Moral: Swat the fly.
O
THE LAWYER
From the Newnun Herold and Advertiser.
The lawyer has a cinch on words; he
corners ’em by droves and herds, and every
time lii v writes a page ’tis filled with sur
plus verbiage. He writes a thousand words
or more, description of a cellar door, and
half a thousand still he’d choose to tell
a I tout the lock and screws. You ask him
for a common match, and soon his fertile
brain will hatch a lot o' phraseology that
stings you like a biunble bee. He does not
sav, “Here is g match.” and then on lingo
pull the latch, but with a mighty knowin’
air, with strange gyrations doth declare,
“know ail you simple-minded men that, in
my sanctum or in my den. 1 hold in fee
th’ title to this match I'm 'bout to give to
you. I own it from incumbrance free, no
dower has a hold on me. 1 owe the weed
anil own th' head, all other claimants now
are dead. To you 1 give and do devise,
with brainlet clear and open eyes, tliis
match, which 1 now firmly hold, and which
to me was fairly sold. And I agree by all
that's good forever to defend th* wood, and
likewise all th’ brimstone, too. that's in this
match I give to you. I wnrrent it forever
more to l>e a match bought at the store,
on which no mortal has a claim from Tim
buctoo to Portland. All hereditaments I
give to you as long as you may live, and
by these present and by these lines ex
tend th' title to assigns. Yet furthermore. 1
do declare, this match will go to lav fill
bear, and all th’ rights 1 have hereunto are
vested in you.”

LOOK!
Th Best Chance You Ever Had
Ten or twelve of the most beautiful, most valuable and
desirable residence lots probably ever sold or likely will
be sold in Winder for some time to come. It is very doubt
ful that those seeking homes, locations for homes or invest
ments in Winder residence property could duplicate much
less surpass this property if you had the privilege of
making your own selection.
This property is off the railroads, away from smoke,
dust and various debre you encounter about the congest
ed business parts of the city. There is not even a possi
bility of any manufacturing plant menacing home comforts.
t
Why do you go to public auction sales and pay such
high price for much less desirable property when you can
buy at private sale and get confidential terms.
If you want to build a home and build it in the most
desirable section of Winder see Dr. Saxon at once.

DON’T ASK HOW WE DO IT
The loss is ours, but the gain is yours—if any of these 66 fabrics
strike your fancy —on many you save $lO and over—but the best thing
to do is to drop in and see the fabrics themselves.
At these reduced prices no man can gamble at the high cost of living.
COME ON ALONG,.
