Western, Central and South Georgia
Want Representation on Railroad
Commission —Bankston The
i" Man They Want
♦ A'
Since the following announcement
appeared in the daily papers, letters of
endorsineat from all sections of the
state Indicate the election of W. Trox
Bankston of West Point. Troup county,
lor Railroad Commissioner us a cer
tainty. After reading it, get busy and
lelp Bankston to win.
West Point, Ga., August 7th. 1330.
To the People of Georgia;
When the generous and blg-heart
ad people of the best state In the
Union were informed of the devasta
tion wrought by the flood at West
Point last December, when she was
by the tureuleat Cuaitaboo- j
:hee River, they responded to her call
tor help with a liberality which evt
ienced their love for the stricken city.
While not a recipient of their dollars,
there is not a resident of this city
who appreciated the generous contri
butions more than myeelf.
Less than four months after, when
a tornado swept West Point, leaving
death and destruction In its path, Geor
gians again wanted to help my home
town; our citizens, with their indomi
table spirit, took care of the unfortun
ates without outside assistance.
While my own financial loss from
the flood and tornado was a heavy
one, I humbly bow in submission to
decree of fate, and am neither dis
couraged nor broke; yet there is one
thing 1 would like to have from Geor
gians; that is, their vote for Railroad
Commissioner to succeed the present
incumbent, P. B. Trammel.
Col. L. N. Trammel most ably filled
that office until his (loath, and aftei
a short interval, his son, the incum
bent, was appointed to the commis
sion. Since that time he has been
elected twice and is a candidate for a
third time. He has two sons, althej
of whom are eligible to that ofice, II
they shoald aspire to it.
The continuation of any one family
in ofice partakes of autocracy and is
directly contrary to my ideas of Dem
ocracy, for which 1 have always con
tended, and shall continue to do sc
as long as life shall last, whether 1
■win or lose.
I want another interval in this fam
ily succession to ofice and I want this
interval named Bankston.
My record as chairman of the Rail
road Committee of the House of Rep
reseutatives for two years, while s
member of the legislature from Troup
county, shows conclusively that the
corporations cannot control me. In a
bill, which came up for consideration
before that committee, which was op
posed by one of the biggest corpora
tions in the Southland, a tie vote re
sulted, and, as chairman, it was nec
essary for me to cast the deciding
vote, which was against the interests
of that corporation. My vote will
probably cost me them opposition, and
perhaps that of other corporations; yet
1 prefer their antagonism to sacrifio
in* principle to curry their favor.
After reading the printed evidence
recently submitted the Railroad Com
mission, I believe I would have again
incurred the antagonism of tire corpo
rations by refusing to grant the in
crease in car fare and electric current,
as well as gas furnished to consum
ers.
The word “corporation” Is no night
mare to me simply because it beare
that name, and 1 think corporations
are entitled to a fair return on the
actual money invested, as well as in
dividuals, but I am sure their custom
ers should not have to pay increased
rates tha. a dividend may be paid on
watered stock.
At the recent meeting of the Geor
gia Press Association, held at Car
roilton, I was honored by being elected
an honorary lifetime member, which:
I highly appreciate. Now if the peo
ple of Georgia will elect me Railroad
Commissioner to succeed Mr. Tram
mel, I will be the happiest man in the
State, and assure the people 1 will give
them the best service I am capable ol
rendering, and will devote my entire
time to the discharge of the duties of
that ofice.
If the many thousands of voters
who voted for me before will get busy
and get their friends to vote with
them for Bankston this time, 1 will
sweep the state from Tybee light to
Rabun Gap.
Western Georgia has had no mem
ber of the Railroad Commission since
the resignation of Fuller E. Callaway
more than twelve years ago; while
North Georgia has had almost contin
uous representation.
Will you help Western Georgia to get
representation on the Railroad Com
nissioa?
Yours to serve,
W. TROX BANKSTON.

Will Be Elected Judge of the
Court of Appeals
By a seven years service on that
bench and five years service on the
Superior Court Bench of Fulton
County he established a record
second to no Judge in the State’s
history.
Judge Wade, Chief Judge of the
said Court ct Appeals, declared that
Judge Hill’3 opinions appearing in
the thirteen volumes of the Appeals
Report “are characterized by learn
ing and ability and are of great serv
ice to the bench and the bar.” His
own qualifications for service on this
bench and the fact that he is the
only son and namesake of Georgia’s
great statesman, lawyer and patriot
who is still remembered and loved by
the people will insure his overwhelm
ing election.
