Social and Personal News MRS. CLYDE WILLIAMSON ENTERTAINS THE SEW ING CLUB. Mrs. Clyde Williamson enter tained the Junior Priscilla Club on last Thursday after noon at her lovely home on Cen ter street. The afternoon was spent in sewing and conversa tion and many beautiful pieces of work were exchanged and late in the afternoon, a delight ful salad course with tea was served. Those enjoying Mrs. William son’s hospitality were: Mes danies 11. E. Millikin, Ralph Smith, E. V. Snipes, Paul Rob erts, 11. A. Carithers. The club members and tin* invited guests were: Mesdames T. C. Dunn, W. L. Jackson, J. A. Perry, Mac Potts, W. O. Perry, J. M. Jackson and Miss Grace Jack son. The club will meet next with Mrs. Robert Arnold. MR. AND MRS. F. <’. GRAD DICK GIVE RECEPTION. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Graddick were at home to their friends on Thursday evening at a beauti ful reception in honor of their daughter and son, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Griffeth, who have re cently returned fro mtheir wed ding trip through Florida. Those assisting Mrs. Graddick in receiving were: Mesdames W. L. Jackson, H. T. Flanigan, Turpin, G. A. Johns, L. S. Reid, M. J. Griffeth, Paul Awtrey and E. V. Snipes. Misses Lucy Turpin and Mary Alice Strange served punch and Haughey’s Orchestra funished music throughout the evening. MESDAMES N. J. KELLEY AND MAC POTTS ENTER TAINED THE BAPTIST LADIES’ AID. Mesdames N. J. Kelley and Mac Potts were hostesses to the Ladies’ Aid Society on Tuesday afternoon in the church parlors. Quite an interesting meeting was held and the following offi cers elected for the year: Co-Presidents —Mesdames L. A. House and Pink Williams. Secretary —Mrs. J. H . Har grove. Faust preached to a splendid congregation at the Bogart Baptist church last Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Rev. and Mrs. W. 11. Faust and Misses Hilda and Marietta visited the former's parents at Lexington last Friday night and Saturday. Hrs. W. C. Horton will leave this week for several weeks’ stay in Florida. The many friends of Mrs. Walter Lyle will be glad to know she is slowly improving from her recent serious illness. Mr. Rhett Nowell has beeu indisposed for several days. Mr. Hayes Griffith, of Jack sonville, Fla., is home for a few davs. Miss Nora Wills, of Athens, spent the week-eml with her aunt, Mrs. W. K. Lyle. Mrs. Caulous Hardigree is sick at her home on Athens street. Mr. Charley Jackson, of At lanta, spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Judson Jackson. Lieut. Frank McKibben, who has recently returned from France, spent the week-end here with his aunts, Mrs. J. T. Strange and Mrs. E. A. Starr. Mrs. A. L. Harper, of Bogart, is the guest of Dr. and Mrs. C. S. Williams. Mrs. Dr. Williams and Miss Inez Cooper spent Wednesday in Statham. Dr. W. C. Potts, of Camp Jes sup, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. (’. Potts. Dr. and Mrs. C. S. Williams and son Louis Harper, spent Sunday in Bogart with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harper. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Mathews, Mrs. L. A. House, and Mrs. W. H. Quarterman spent Monday in Athens. Mr. Emory Harris, of Bethle hem, spent Monday in the city. Miss Alice King spent several days in Atlanta recently. Dr. and Mrs. Gibson Nowell, of Atlanta, wore week-end guests of relatives. Mr. Tom Burson was in At lanta Sunday the guest of friends. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Potts en tertained Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Smith and children at dinner Sunday. Miss Woodie Haynie left Sat urday for Milledgeville for sev eral days visit. Miss Kate Piver left last week for Atlanta where she has accepted a position. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Griffith will be at home to their friends after January 2b, at their apartments at the residence of Miss Cleo Bush. Prof. J. L. Moore, of Bethle hem, was in town for a short while Tuesday. The young men who have been mustered out from the dif ferent camps and are at home once again, much to the happi ness of their loved ones and friends, are Messrs Hosea Wil liams, Ernest Harry Hodges and Sergeant I. E. Jackson. Mr. Harvey Austin, of Bethle hem, was in Winder Monday on business. Col. M. D. Irwin, of Law renceville, spent last Saturday in Winder. Mr. W. K. Lyle attended the funeral of his neice, Mrs. J. H. Goldsmith in Atlanta Monday. Miss Meadow O’Farrow, the domestic science teacher, is confined to her room with influ enza, at the home of Mrs. Ho mer Smith. Mr. J. P. Williams, who had charge l of the work of raising the fund for the Armenian-As syrian sufferers, deserves much praise for his untiring efforts to raise* the amount allotted to the county. Johns attended the funeral of Mrs. J. W. Gold smith in Atlanta Monday. Miss Carson, of Yacoochc* 1 Valley, is visiting her sister, Mrs. P. W. Quattlebauni, who has been ill for sometime. Mr. and Mrs. George Thomp son moved into their beautiful home on Broad street last week. Mr. Thompson recently purchased this home from ill. Y. A. Daniel, of Athens. Mrs. C. I T . Bond, of Lawrence ville, is the guest of Col. and Mrs. J. A. Perry at their home on Center Street. Mr. and Mrs. Walden and children spent the wk-eneed — children spent the ■week-end in Atlanta. Mrs. A. J. Sims, over towards Carter Hill neighborhood, has been suffering greatly with rheumatism for several wwks. Mrs. Kims is one of the splendid women of her community: Mr. W. L. The Ladies’ Aid and Mission ary Society of the First Bap tist church will entertain for Miss Mary Russell on next Tuesday afternoon at 3:30, at the home of Mrs. G. W. Wood ruff, on Broad street. Mrs. W. L. Jackson has been quite sick for several days. M rs. E. V. Snipes spent Fri day in Atlanta. Miss Hattie Patrick has re turned from her home in Mon roe. Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Snipes are at home to their friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Coker. Mr. E. V.Wood, of Cain’s dis trict, ami abrother-in-law of our city policeman, Mr. J. J. Greeson, is critically ill. Mr. Woodson Smith has been confined to his room for several days this week on account of illness. Mr. John Snmmerour, who has been in Atlanta for several days for treatment of hiccough, is back home very much im proved. The Ladies’ Aid Society of the Christian church will meet in the l church parlors on Tuesday afternoon, February 4th, at 3:30 o’clock. All tin* ladies of tin 1 church are cordially invi ted. Mr. J. One of the social events of the week in Winder was the mar riage Wednsday afternoon of Miss Lillie MaiPirkle to Mr. E. L. Iteddingfleld, at the lovely home* of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Pirkle. The beatiful ceremony which united these young persons for life was performed bv Rev. W. H. Faust, pastor of the bride. The decorations were white carnations and southern smilax and the parlor was artistically decorated with cut flowers, ferns and palms. Miss Bert Pirkle was maid of honor and carried a beautiful bouquet of pink carnations. Mr. Emory Beddingfiield, brother of the groom, acted as best man. Mendehlson’s Wedding March was beautifully rend ered by Mrs. Oscar Sitinmerour. and on their return will be at Just preceding the ceremony Mrs. J. W. Griffeth sang “The Hour That Gave Me You.” Miss Ora Lee Camp. Mrs. J. P. Williams and Mrs. H. G. Flanigan received at the door assisted by Mrs. Lee S. Rad ford, Mrs. Reed and .Mrs. Bush Jackson. The flower girls were Misses Barton Jackson, Venelle Ha gan, Margarett Morgan and Dorothy Smith. Punch was served in the living room by Misses Esther Henson, Grace Jackson and Lucy Turpin. The large number of presents attested the popularity of this young couple. Mr. and Mrs. Beddingfteld left immediately for Atlanta ond on their return will be at home to their friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Pirkle on Church street. Mr. Ralph Foster has a posi tion with the Mayne Manufac turing Company. Mr. Paul Bosch has returned from the army and is again connected with the insurance department of the North Geor gia Trust and Banking Com pany. | It is reported that Mr. Brad ford, traveling representative of Lamar-Ranirin Drug Com pany, desires to make Winder his home and headquarters if he can secure a home. It is very unfortunate that Winder has such a scarcity of houses for rent at this time. The man who puts his money in an up-todate apartment house here at once is going to be a wise, progressive citizen. It is badly needed.
