Social and Personal News Thompson-Smith. An event of much interest was the wedding of Miss Marie Smith and Mr. David Fleming Thomp son at t he home of the brides pnr •ents, Mr. and Mrs. O. W. Smith on broad street, at high-noon Satur day. Rev. J. H. Mash hum officiating. fbis was a very quiet and simple edding on account of the recent berevement in the brides family, and only the immediate relatives were present. The bride was lovely, wearing a smart traveling suit of dark blue with small hat to match. Mrs. Thompson, as Miss Marie Smith was one of the most attrac tive and popular young ladies ever reared in Winder, she is a graduate of Brenau College and is quite talented in music. Mr. Thompson is one of the leading young business men in Winder. He demons!rated his effi ciency in the banking business be fore entering the war, and no young man in Winder is held in higher esteem in social or business relationships. The bride and groom left imme diately for Washington, New York, Niagara Falls and other points. They will be at home to their friends after July first at the home of the brides parents; until their home on broad street is com pleted. Dooley-McDonald. If will be of interest to the many friends of Miss Lona Dooley and Mr. Embre McDonald to an iMApn-c their marriage which oc curred at the Methodist parson age in Winder last Saturday night, Dev. John H. Mashburn of ficiating. These are two of the most popu lar young people in Statham and they have many friends to shower congratulation upon them. Miss Frances Brooks Entertains. A delightful social event of the week was the pretty party given by Miss Frances Brooks, in honor of her graduating class and at tractive house guests, Miss Cora Ratliff, of Edwards, Miss., and Miss Mamie Brand, of Lawrence ville. The punch bowl was presid ed over by Miss Mabel Jackson. French baskets filled with daises and tied with green and white tulle, the class colors, were used for table decorations. After several hours of “proms” an ice course was served, carrying out the class colore. The hostess mother was assisted in entertain ing by Mrs. Paul Roberts. Rountree, spent Sunday and Monday with friends at Monroe. Mrs. J. A. Perry and son, J. A. Jr., spent Monday in At lanta. Mr.-and Mrs. T. M. Leonard of Reedsville, S. C., are the guests of Misses Ida and Allen Kilgore. Mrs. Leonard was Miss Nellie Kilgore before her marriage a few I months ago. Mr. and Mrs. H. M Rankin and daughter. Elizabeth, are visiting relatives in Rowe this week Mrs. P. A. Flanigan Hostess. On Wednesday afternoon Mrs. P. A. Flanigan delightfully enter tained lyr club and a number of other friends at a 500 party. Sweet pens were used in profus ion in the living room, dining room and music room. Mints were served in small baskets tied with ribbon, on Hie tables where the games were played. The dining table was a beautiful picture with its cluny lace centerpiece mirrored placque and cut glass vase of sweet peas and bonbon dishes of mints. Mrs. A. 1). Met furry and Mrs. H. A. Carithers Jr., assisted Mrs. Flanigan in serving the salad course at the conclusion of the games. The invited guests were: Mesdames A. I). McCurry, H. A. Carithers, Jr., H. E. Young Matrons Federated Club Donate Garbage Cans and Fly Traps to City. It will be of interest to the peo pie of Winder to learn of a recent valuable donation, the Young Matron’s Federated Club of Win der has made to the city. Through the sale of sandwiches at the city drug store, made by these young women, quite a neat sum has been accumulated. At a meeting last week of this club, eighty dollars was appre ciated from their funds for the purchase of one dozen street fly traps and our dozen garbage cans. These traps and cans will be turn ed over to the city upon their ar rival within the next few days This city is to he congratulated upon its receipt of this gift from young women composing the club, and the club deserves the thanks of the city for its liberal ity. It is ineumbert upon the city to force the observance of the gar bage cans and to preserve the traps as best they can. A strict observance of these cans should free the business streets of many unsightly appear ances. Mrs. H. E. Millikan, Miss Mary Shields and Rev. R. E. Moss En tertain their S. S. Classes. On Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Milli kin, Rev. R. E. Moss, Miss Mary Shields and Mrs. Millikin gave their Sunday School classes a very enjoyable lawn and porch party. These are three very fine classes of young girls and boys and just th* age to be happy and know how to enjoy life. Miss Sadie Harris served punch; and all kinds of games were enjoyed by some thirty five members of the classes and a few other friends. Mr. and Mrs. Millikin know how to make young people have a good time to gether with the other host and hostess. At a late hour an ice course was served. Mr. Zack Jackson, returned home Friday from Emory College where he is taking a full course in Medicine. Before many years Mr. Zack Jackson will be one of the leading physician's of our State. Miss Osie Wills, of East Point, is the attractive guest of Mr. and Mrs. W. K. Lyle at their home on Broad Street. | Mrs. G. C. Moseley is spending several days in Atlanta this week. Miss Jennie Smith is attending tlie State Sunday School Conven tion in Rome this week. Miss Ora Lee Camp spent Sun day in Atlanta with her sister, Miss Pauline, who is doing nicely at the Wesley Memorial Hospital. Miss leie Smith has returned from a week’s visit to Macon. Mrs. J. T. Wayes, of Auburn, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. P. A. Flanigan, at her home on Broad Street. Mrs. W. A. (.'raft continues quite sick at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Camp and Mr. and Mrs. Boh Camp, spent Wednesday in Atlanta. Mrs. 11. T. Flanigan is spending several days in Atlanta with her sister, Mrs. Harry Kilpatrick. Master Lamar Perry is spend ing several days in Atlanta this week with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Goforth of Gainesville, spent Monday here with NTr. and Mrs. W. G. Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Grady McGaugh ey entertained at an elegant six o’clock dinner Sunday evening. Their guests were Mr. Oscar Ross and Miss Floy Strickland, of Win der, and Miss Ruth Johnson, of Monroe, Mr. Ross, son of Editor and Mrs. R. O. Ross, was recently in the Government Aviation Ser vice and he and Miss Strickland are among Winder’s most popular young people.—Walton News. Messrs. Albert and Walter Ben ton returned home from the Uni versity of Virginia Monday morn ing, where they have been since last September. Mr. Howard Bryant, who has been with the Western Union for several months returned to his home in Athens Monday. Mr. Guy Jackson, .Miss Thelma Woodruff, Miss Grace Jackson Mrs. W. 0. Perry, and Mrs. Clyde Williamson motored to Athens Thursday and spent the day. Miss Sallie Kirk of Rockinart, is the attractive guest of her sister, Mrs. J. B. Cooper. Miss Charlotte McCants is home from Wesleyan where she has been in College this year. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Horton have returned from a trip West. Mrs. J. H. Wood has returned home after spending three weeks in Birmingham, Ala., Miss Maggie Perry is home from Wesleyan College, and from Covington, where she had been on a house party and attended Ox ford Commencement. Miss Louise Strange returned home Wednesday from Covington where she has been attending a house party, and Oxford Commen cement. Dr. and Mrs. E. F. Saxon spent Sunday in Farmington with Dr. Saxon’s parents. His father is one of the leading and prosperous farmers of Oconee County. Mrs. W. H. Shank, nee Miss Bartow Smith, of Salem, W. Va., was called to Winder Tuesday on account of the serious illness of her mother, Mrs. M. E. Smith. Dr. C. B. Almond spent several days in Elberton last week with his mother, who happened to an accident recently. Mr. Marshal Rives is at home for a few days. Miss Blondin* Lyle of Lithonia, is spending several weeks with her sister, Mrs. Alma McDonald. Dr. and Mrs. Gibson Nowell of Atlanta spent the week-end here, Mrs. Nowell will remain for seve ral days longer, while Dr. Nowell is on a business trip to Savannah. Miss Polly Johns, of Social Cir cle, who has been visiting Col. and Mrs. Johns for two weeks return ed home Monday. Miss Thelma Gordon of Jeffer son, was a very attractive visitor to Miss Mary Shields for several days last week. Messrs. Theo and Wade Jackson spent Sunday in Atlanta. Mr. Charles Dunn, who has a position in Charlotte, N. 0., is spending a few days with his mo ther, Mrs. Alice Dunn. Misses Utlia Shields and Helen Jackson are the guests of Mre. Dorse Wilhite in Jefferson for wveraf day* * * Miss Alice King is spending a few weeks in Atlanta. Misses Mary Shields and Thel ma Gordon, Messrs. Mark Sims and Willie Hill Hosch motored to Atlanta Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson and Mesdames W. G. Hill and Minnie Daniel spent Thursday in Allanta. Mrs. Paul Roberts and Miss Arlevia Burson left Tuesday morning for Rome, where they will attend the State Sunday School < 'onvention. Miss Fay Wilkinson left Friday for her home in Demorest after spending several days with Mrs. W. A. Bradley. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Anthony, re ceived a cable Monday from their son, Durham, that he had arrived safely in X. Y. Mr. Anthony is a tine young man and was in Tran sylvania University studing for the ministry at the time he enlist ed, nearly a year ago. Mrs. Alice Anderson is spending some time with friends in Madison Mrs. Roy Jackson, is the guest of her mother and father in Atlan ta for two weeks. Mr. Blake Smith of Atlanta, is the guest of his mother this week. Mr. II osea Williams spent Sun day in Madison. Mrs. Ruby MeElhannon, of Gainesville spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Mrs. Elder attended graduating exereises of her daughter, Miss Desma, at G. N. &. I. C. last week. Mrs. T. M. Foster returned home Tuesday from Bishop where she has been for two months. Mrs. John Suddath came home this week from a private Sanitar ium in Atlanta. Mrs. Lillie Lamar is spending several weeks with her sister, Mrs. Jack Sevmore in Gainesville. Mr. and Mrs. John Shatpton and John, Jr., of Atlanta, were called here this week on account of the critical illness of Mrs. F. llofmeister. Mrs. B. W. Oglesby of Elbert on, is spending some time with Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Eavenson. Miss Mary Shields leaves Fri day for a house party to be given by Miss Thelma Gordon of .Jeffer son. Messrs. Guy Kilgore and Carl ton Pentecost were guests for sup per on Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Pentecost, at their hospitable home near here. The many friends of Misses Sybil Millsaps, Josephine House, Nolle McCants, Desma Elder and Ernestine Bush are glad to have them home again from college at G. N. & 1. C. Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Morgan and Mesdames Lee Fort son and W. H. Faust spent Friday in Athens. Mr. and Mrs. John Craft motor ed to Athens Tuesday for the day.
