H. G. Hill, Ordinary. A THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK. Recently 1 was a visitor in two homes. The first was a home of abundance; we ate on rich china, and sat afterward amid expensive surroundings. I wondered that a man who had so much should seem to find so little satisfaction in it. “Men call me fortunate,” lie said to me. “but they do not know what they say. 1 have made a fail ure of the only things in life that counts. My son is worthless—and 1 let him drift into worthless ness. ’ The other home was mod est. The man who dwells in it will never he heard of beyond the lini * its of huii own small town. Hut for years lie has made it a rule to take some regular time each day to he a comrade to his boys. Their read ing, their sports, their problems are a first consideration on his cal endar. In business he makes only his living; at home he is guiding and molding lives, lie has put hu manity in his debt. hTe lives that be lias brought into the world wil shed glory on his name long after he has passed beyond.—Bruce Barton in Association Men. Done at Winder, Georgia, by the Ordi nary of Barrow County sitting for county purposes on this the 19th day of June, 1919. H. G. Hill, Ordinary. Last Words of Rulers. The nnetents had an ear for last words, and among the reputed fare wells of Roman emperors there have been handed down Nero’s cynical, “What tin artist the world is losing In me!” Julian’s cry of surrender, "Thou has conquered, O Galilean!” and Ves pasian's ironic. “I feel myself becoming a god.” Strange Street Name*. Whnt Is the quaintest street name you know of in London, past or pres ent? It would probably be hard, re lates the London Chronicle, to heat Shalllponaked street, which, according to the late Sir Laurence Gonune's evi dence before the local records com mittee, appears as the name of a street In Whipping in a sewers rate book for 1748. In those days the naming of a street was not in the hands of a sedate public authority, hence the oddity of some of these old names. Phrenological. An odd reminder, says 'bo Tndepend ent. of the days when phrenology was popular ns u means of “reading char acter,“ with a sly dig nt the tendency of Its professors to give complimentary explanations of the “humps." is fou.id In a letter from J'lir.nheth Barrett Browning advertised for sale in n Lon doh bookseller’s catalogue. It rends In part: “I>o you believe In phrenol ogy? Did you ever consult a phreno logical oracle? and did It jinswer, 'My son, thou art Invincible}* ” STATE OF GEORGIA. Harrow County.
