Social and Personal News Misses Mary Alice and Louise Strange Hostess. On Monday evening, Misses Mary Alice and Louise Strange were the charming hostess at a delightful “prom” party at their lovely home on board street, in compliment to their attractive house guests, Misses Josephine Franklin of Covington, and Helen Cox of Monroe, two popular mem bers of Wesleyan student body. The guests were met at the door hy Miss Mary Alice Strange and Mr. Tom B. Strange, who carried them into the parlor w’here the re ceiving line stood composed of Misses Franklin, Cox, Louise Strange and Messrs. R. B. Russell, Jr., and Keith Quarterman. Misses Elise Starr and Rubye Woodruff presided over the punch bowl, which was elaborately decorated in Wesleyan colors, Lavendar and Purple, and was used throughout the spacious rooms, and in the re freshments. About fifty of the col lege set were invited. Among the out-of-town guests were: Messrs. Culme Kinnebrew and Carter Daniel, of Athens, Henry Smith, of Jefferson, and Lieut. Donald McKibben, of Atlanta. Mrs. W. H. Quarterman Gives Matinee Party. .. On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. Quarterman entertained a few friends in honor of her guests, Mesdames. W. H. Toole, of Atlan ta, and H. R. Hunt, of Powder Springs. After enjoying the pic ture at the Strand delightful re freshments were served at the City Drug Store. Those enjoying this occasion were: Mesdames. W. H. Toole, H. R. Hunt, Alice Dunn, J. T. Strange, E. A. Starr, A. A. Camp, R. L. Rogers, W. A. Brad ley, 11. E. Edwards, Reid, H. T. Flanigan, G. A. On Friday afternoon, Master Henry Bradley gives a matinee party for his visitors, Master Franklin and Cleghorn Toole, of Atlanta, and a few other friends. After enjoying the picture they were carried to the home of the host and delightful refreshments were served. Those enjoying this pleasant occasion were: Franklin and ('leghorn Toole, Nannelle Starr, Annie Lon Lamback, Lamar Perry, Mary Julia Reid, Clifford Henson. Alice Eugent Dunn, Har old Starr, Mary Quarterman and Helen Oraddiek. Entertains Visitors. On Thursday evening, Mrs. A. A. Camp entertained at a six (o'clock dinner, for Mrs. Quarter man and Mrs. McCurry’s visitors, Mrs. W. H. Toole, of Atlanta, and Mrs. H. R. Hunt, of Powder Springs. Covers were laid for six. Ernest Green Graham Gives Party. On Saturday afternoon, at the home of his parents, on broad st., Ernest O. Graham entertained a number of his little friends, cele brating his twelveth birthday. As the guests entered the living room they were received by Airs. Gra ham, assisted by Mrs. Cliff' Wages, of Tignall, Airs. Sam Graham and Airs. Junius Carrington. Aliss Eli zabeth Graham served punch, and after many enjoyable games, cream and cake was served. Those enjoying this happy occasion were: Claude Herrin, Lamar Per ry, W. C. Horton, Otis Camp, J. A. Haynie, John L. Lanier, William Lanier, Horace Austin, Robert Lay. Alorgan Wages, Ruth Wages, Blanche Smith, Johhie Bennett, Lois Me Elroy, Mary Ross, Gladys, Thompson, Ethel Austin, Bernice Ivery, Marcia Smith, Dorothy Cuaft, Lona Belle Carrington, Mil dred Oldham, Elizabeth Graham, Samuel Craham and John Thomp son 11. Cooper-Young Miss Maude Cooper and Mr. Hampton Young, both of Ogle thorpe county, were united in marriage last Monday. Rev. J. H. Mash burn performing the cere mony at the parsonage ; n this city. The young couple left immedi ately for Atlanta. Mrs. H. T. Flanigan Gives Recep tion To Her Visitors. One of the most brilliant events of the past week was the reception given by Mrs. H. T. Flanigan, in honor of her guests, Mesdames. H. T. Kilpatrick and J. W. Millsaps, of Atlanta, and J. W. Cooper, who will leave next week for Atlanta, to make her future home. The lower floor of the lovely home of Mrs. Flanigan’s was thrown toge ther and beautifully decorated. Baskets of sweet peas, roses and daisies were used on cabinets, ped estal’s and tables. Mesdames 11. E. Millikin, Bob Camp, W. L. Jack- Sun and H. E. Edwards received at the door. In a cozy corner of the hall Mesdames. O. M. Jackson and Clyde Williamson served punch. In the dining room Mes dames H. A. Carithers, Jr., G. A. Johns, P. A. Flanigan and Roy Jackson received. Mesdames. Mac Potts, J. W. Griffeth, A. D. Mc- Ourry and Miss Ora Lee Camp furnished music throughout the afternoon, and during the two hours some seventy-five ladies called. Missionary Society Gives Picnic. On Alonday afternoon Airs. W. B. AlcCants with her Junior Alis sionary Society, of the Methodist Church, with some of their mothers, fathers and other friends left Winder in seven cars for a picnic at Summerour’s Mill. The children enjoyed wading for about two hours. Then a sutnp tous feast was spread down at the spring. About sixty children were present. Those chaperoning were: Air. Jeff Henson, Air. Aliller, Air. One of the prettiest parties of the week was the one given on Saturday afternoon by Mrs. Wal ter Jackson, in honor of Airs. Quarterman's guests, Mesdames. H. R. Hunt, of Powder Springs, and Airs. W. H. Toole, of Atlanta, and Airs. 11. T. Flanigan’s guests, Alesdames. H. T. Kilpatrick, and J. W. Alillsaps, of Atlanta. The living room and dining room were made attractive with spring flow ers and on each table arranged for “500”, compotes of almonds were placed. Alisses Arlevia Burson, Alary Lamar Jackson and Grace Jackson served punch, and Ales dames. Clyde Williamson, Alice Dunn and Roy Jackson assisted Airs. Jackson. A delicious salad course was served. Woodruff, in honor of little Marcia Hargrove, of Craw ford, Ga., The guests were served punch upon entering, and after various games all of which were enjoyed by the youngsters an ice course was served. Miss Inez Cooper entertained at a very attractive Bunco party on Tuesday morning in compliment to the guests of Misses Mary Alice and Louise Strange, Misses Helen Cox, of .Monroe, and Josephine Franklin, of Covington. Misses Letha Cooper and Rubye Woodruff dressed in white organ dies with pink ribbons, served punch from a very attractive cor ner of the porch where the games were played and during the morn ing a delicious ice course was serv ed still carrying out the color scheme of pink and white. Aliss Alary Lou Sugars, who has been in Atlanta taking a business course, has finished and is at home for a few days. Air. and Mrs. Ernest Carring ton accompanied by Air. and Airs. Elmer Haynie and Dr. Simpson, of Norcross, have returned from a weeks, fishing trip to Jackson ville, Fla., Airs. J. 11. This is in Cain’s district where they have always gone over the top in the Liberty and Victory Loan Drives. They report an un usually pleasant day, a large crowd and a fine dinner. Mrs. A. D. Alisses Sara Joe Roberts and Willie Alae Autry were delegates from Junior Alissionary Society to Gainesville District Aleeting in Jefferson last week. The letter from Rev. AV. 11. Faust in this issue, giving an in teresting sketch of the trip from here to Maryland, will he read with much pleasure by our read ers. The announcement in the Atlan ta papers Sunday of the engage ment of Aliss Leila Thornton Vick ery, of Hartwell, to Mr. Robert Leeonidas Rice, of Elberton, will be of much interest here, as Aliss Vickery was one of the popular teachers of the High School last year, where she has many friends. Airs. Dr. Ford and son, Grant, are visiting relatives at Demorest. Air. and Airs. E. A. Saunders of Abbeville, Ala., have returned home after spending ten days with Alisses Callie and Pearl Saunders. Mrs. W. L. Walker and little Grace, Walker, of Beaumont, Tex., Mrs. Ben Harrow and little daugh ter, of Athens, spent last Wednes day with Mrs. I). D. Kesley. Col. and Mrs. W. H. Quarter man, Mrs. H. Mr. Ambrose Jackson, who lias been taking a business course in Macon, has finished his course and is at home.
