Social and Personal News Picnic In Honor of Miss Ruuth Ethridge. Last Thursday afternoon a pic nie was given at Parks’ Mill in honor of Miss Ruth Ethridge, of Sparta, ( la., the attractive niece of Mr. and Mrs. John Summerour. After a delightful afternoon, the party returned to the home of Miss Ella Mae Summerour, where they spent the evening in games, and cutting of delicious melons. Those in the party were: Misses Ruth Ethridge, Henson, Desma Elder, Evelyn Radford, Ella Mae Summerour, Rose Dillard, Myrtle Booth, Charlotte and Xelle Mo- Cants, Messrs. Pike Hutchins, Ernest Sims, Clyde Eskridge, Will 11. Hosch, John Kilgore, Poole, John Drake and C. H. Cook. Miss Jackson Entertains One of the prettiest parties of the week was the one given by Miss Mable Jackson at her lovely home on Midland Ave. in honor of Misses Nelle and Charlotte Me- Cants guests. Misses Lambert, Weeks, Adams, Hood and Taylor, and also Miss Thelma Woodruff’s guest, and Mrs. Carl Henson. The color scheme of green and gold was carried out in all the de tails. Vases of sunflowers and other yellow flowers adorned the mantels and tables. Progressive initials was enjoyed during the proming. The color Scheme of green and gold was prominent in the delicious salad course served at the end of the games. Miss Jackson was assisted in en tertaining by her sister. About thirty guest enjoyed Miss Jack son’s hospitality. Miss Robinson Entert^js. One of the prettiest affairs of the week was the party given by 'Miss Montine Robinson, Wednes day morning, for the visitins girls in town, the house guest of Misses Nelle and Charlotte Mc- Cants, Woodruff, Turpin, Mrs. Robert Arnold and Mrs. G. C. Moseley. hTe shaded porch living room and music room looked quite charming with large baskets and vases of sunflowers carring out the color scheme of yellow and white. As the guests arrived they were served punch by Mrs.. Oscar Summerour and Mrs. Edd Beding field. After many interesting games of Bunco, a delicious salad course with ice tea, was served. Those enjoying Miss Robinson’s hospitality were: Misses Lambert, Adams, Taylor, Weeks, Hood, Parks, Powel, Oreen, Nowell, Charlotte and Nelle Met'ants, Tur pin, Woodruff, Smith, Elder, Fer guson, Quillian, Pirkle, Herrin, Radford, Perry, Louise and Mary Alice Strange, Jackson and House. Water-Melon Cutting. One of the most unique and de lightful affairs of the week was the watermelon cutting given by Miss Ella Mae Summerour, on Monday afternoon, in honor of Misses Charlotte and Nelle Mc- Cants house guests. After a pleasant hour spent in Kodaking; the guest were ushered out under the seuppernoing arbor, where tables were ladened with watermelons, peaches and grapes. Those enjoying Miss Summer our’s hospitality w r. Misses Hood, Adams, Weeks, Taylor, Lassester, Lambert, Char lotte and Nelle Met'ants, Maud, Esther and Flossie Henson, Rad ford. Herrin, Robinson, Jackson, ITgrris, Elder, Quillian and Sikes. Bui son, Moore, Barber, Brooksber, Eskridge, Cooper, Sims, and John and Huy Kilgore. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Summerour chaperoned the party. ;*I will not be working in my '.studio until September Ist. A. E. Knight. Misses Camp Hostess. Misses Ora Lee and Pauline Camp entertained at a Theatre Party Wednesday afternoon in honor of Miss Lucile Braswell, of Logansville, after enjoying the play, “The Safety Curtains,” the party returned to the Drug Store, where they were served an ice couurse. Those enjoying this hos pitality were Misses Luucile Bras well, Sadie and Gladys Harris, Louise House. Reunette Woodruff, Mary Louise Johns, Elizabeth Kimball, Frances Brooks, Inez Cooper and Ora Lee Camp. Mr. Porter Davis, a grandson of Mrs. Callie Millsaps, and who has been teaching in Atlanta Tech High, left here Monday for his old home in Texas. Mrs. Harry Segars and little daughter, Harriett, will leave this week for Ashburn, for a visit of several weeks. Mr. 1. E. Jackson returned Tuesday from bis trip to New York, Niagara Falls and other places. Miss Sara Frances Segars is visiting relatives and friends in Norcross, Aflanta and Luthers ville. Miss Hattie Patrick left Friday for her vacation of several w r eeks. While away she will be at her home near Monroe and in Atlanta. Miss Elder Entertains. On Tuesday morning, Miss Bos nia Elder entertained at a lovely morning party, in honor of the Misses MeCants house guests. Miss Fanniebel Adams, of Covington, ATiss Mary Hood, of Commerce, .Miss Louise Taylor, of Luthers ville, Miss Lucile of Turin, and Miss Marion Weeks, of Dacatur, and Mrs. Carl Henson, of Winder. The guests spent*a de lightful hour in sewing and Miss Louise Green, of Miliedgeville, re ceived the prize for the prettiest article made, a beautiful box of handkerchiefs. The reception hall, parlor and dining room were thrown open to the guests, and were beautifully decorated in sunflowers and other cut flowers. Mrs. Hiram Flanigan and .Miss Beulah Ferguson assist ed in entertaining. A salad course was served to the guests. Forty guest enjoyed Miss Elder’s hospi tality. Eethabra Pictut. Dr. and Mrs. C. S. Williams and son, Louis Harper, Mr. and Mrs. Brannon Williams, Messrs. J. P. Williams and Paul Williams at tended a delightful Sunday School picnic at Bethabra Church near Smiths Springs on last Wednes day. W. C. T. U. The regular meeting of the W. C. T. U. will be held at. the Bap tist Church Monday afternoon at 5 o’clock. A special program will he given by the L. T. L’s and a good atten dance is desired. Mrs. Georgia Harris, Mrs. Aiken, Mrs. A. A. Camp, Mrs. Lee Fortson, Mrs. A. A. Thomas, Mrs. Edd Herrin, Mrs. D. L. Nowell, Mrs. W. E. Mathews, Mrs. Ralph” Smith and Miss leie Smith will he hostesses on this oc casion. Picnic For Visitors. Another enjoyable affair of the M isses MeCants bouse party w r as the picnic given by several of the young men of Winder on Monday evening at Parks Mill. Several cars motored out and just before dark a bonteous supper was serv ed. Mr. and Mrs. MeCants were chaperones. Miss Lona McGaughey, of Ath ens, was the guest of Miss Gladys Overton Wednesday Night. Mrs. L. A. House has returned from Salem, Va., from a vistT to her sister, Mrs. Shank. Misses McCants Entertains in Honor of Guests. One of the prettiest and largest parties of the summer was the one given by Misses Nell Charlotte McCants in honor of their guests, Misses Weeks, Lambert, Adams, Taylor, Hood and Lossestee, on Friday evening, July eighteenth, at their beautiful home on Candler Street. The entire lower floor was thrown together and decorated with vases and baskets of pink and white carnations. Mr. McCants and Miss Nell Mc- Cants received at tiie door while Miss Charlotte McCants with the guests composed the receiving line in the parlor. Miss Sara Frances Segars serv ed punch in a cozy corner of the porch. Music was enjoyed through the evening by an orchestra composed of Prof. Cooper, Mr. Barber and Miss Appleby. After two hours of promenading an ice course was served carrying out the color scheme of pink and white. Eighty of Winder’s College set enjoyed the hospitality of the Misses McCants. The out of town guests were Messrs. Lee and Biggers, Coving ton, Ca., Messrs. Wilson, Sikes, Pharr, Daeula, Ca., Mr. Ben Shakleford, Lawrenceville, Ca., Messrs. 11 illm and Abney, Athens, Ca., Miss Abney, Athens, Ca., Miss Betsey Grim, Knoxville, Torn., Mr. Arnold Carrtuh, Akron, Ohio. Messrs. Henry Bradl.,, and Har old Starr left Monday for a visit to Messrs. Fran Killrand (’leghorn Toole, of Atlanta. Mrs. W. A. Bradley is spending the week in Demorest, with Miss Fay Wilkinson. Miss Fay Wilkinson left Winder last week, after speifding two weeks’ here with friends. She will, leave Demorest August the first, for Cleveland, AsnTand and Point Cedar, Ohio., to visit friends, and later will enter the government service having already stood civil service examination. Welcome to every on.e Our July audiences, morning and evening, have been unusually large, perhaps the largest of this year, excepting of course, our re vival audiences. Always glad are ve to welcome our friends and visitors. New faces are seen at each service. We certainly miss those who are sick and cannot be present. All in all, the month has been a month of uplift and bless ing. Generally speaking, our sick members are better. They have been examples of faith in suffering and have taught their minister and friends helpful lessons of patience in the sick room. How grateful should all he who are strong, who know the blessing of health. Rev. R. E. Moss is conducting revival services this week at Good Hope, Walton County. Dr. Sikes, of St-atham, was in Winder Wednesday. Mr. Tom Deaton, of Cain’s Dis trict. spent yesterday in Winder. 1 Messrs. J. O. Hawthorne, of Au burn, and W. J. Miss Lucile Hancock, of Mays ville, is visiting relatives here this w'eek. Prof, and Mrs. J. I. Allman and son, Claude, of Toceoa, Ca., motor ed through Winder, making a brief visit upon Rev. R. E. Moss, brother of Mrs. Allman. Mr. W. E. Roberts was called to Grayson Monday morning on ac count of the death of his sister. Mrs. Vallie Arnold and Miss Maggie Belle Arnold, are the guests of Mrs. S. N. Arnold. Mr. J. T. Coil, of Nicholson, is spending several days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Benton.
