OTHER NEWSPAPER.
Elberton, Ga., Sept. 26.—Elber
ton is soon to have another news
peper. The Elberton Star has for
.fnany years been published here
twice a week. Harris Landrum
and S. B. Swilling will at an early
'date begin issuing a weekly. Mr.
Landrum has worked with quite a
number of papers of the state and
was for years with the Star, lie
spent several years in the factory
where the linotype machines are
made, and is considered one of t he
best allround newspaper men in
the state today. Mr. Swilling far
merly owned and published a pa
per at Royston, Ga. They have al
ready purchased their presses and
machinery and hope to have them
installed within the next sixty
days.
BAPTISTS OF NORTH EAST
GEORGIA MEET.
Last Sunday the Baptists of
North East Georgia met at
Gainesville at II o’clock and were
thrilled and inspired by a great
and masterly outling of the 75
Miliion Campaign by Dr. L. R.
Scarborough, of Nashville, Tenn.,
the director of the Southern Bap
tist < 'onvention.
Long before the hour of service
arrived the people commenced to
pour in and the spacious auditor
oum was filled to overflowing
and the Sunday School rooms
were thrown wide open and tilled
by representatives of the Church
es from Rabun County and Mon
roe.
The Gainesville Baptists treat
ed the visitors royally, long tables
were spread at the Court House
lawn and such a dinner was serv
ed would have suited the taste
of the fastitious king.
The great throng of people at
the close of an hour and half
speech by Dr. Scarborough unaro

Buford Baptist Church, has re
signed to take effect January 1.

MME. PATTI LEFT AN ESTATE
VALUED AT THREE MILLION.
London, Sept. 27.—Mine. Ade
lina Patti, who died today at
Craigy-Nos, her beautiful castle
in Wales, left an estate valued at
£3,000,000, it was stated by
friends here tonight.
Mine. Patti, or Baroness Cedar
strom, as she was known in pri
vate life, was 76 years old. Heart
failure was given as the cause of
her death.

New York. September 20.—A
gift of $20,000,000 from John D.
Rockefeller for the improvement
of medical education in the Un
ited States was announced by the
General Education board.
Official announcement of the
gift says that the income of the
$20,000,000 is to be currently used
and Ihe entire principal to be dis
tributed within fifty years.

John "Welch” of this city, who
boasts that lie has not shaved his
upper lip since 1864, and who has
worn a heard since 1869, without
shaving has been challenged by a
Kentuckian, who claims not to
have had a shave since 1861.
