was a citizen of cur city is now
one of Atlanta's promising young

Cards have been received by
friends here announcing the mar
riage of Miss Carrie Elinor Bailey
of Jefferson, to Mr. Samuel Eras
tus Smith, of this city, on Satur
day. October the eighteenth.
Mrs. Smith as Miss Bailey has
often visited Winder, where she
has many friends. She is an unus
ually beautiful young lady and
has many charming' traits of char
acter. Mr. Smith is the second son
of Mr. S. P. Smith, and holds a
responsible position here with the
Gainesville Midland Railway.
This young couple has a hosts
of friends in Winder who wish
for them a bright and prosperous
married life.

On Saturday afternoon. Mrs. J.
"W. Griffeth entertained in honor
of Mrs. Howard Rogers, a recent
bride, at the beautiful home of
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Ferguson, on

Howard Rogers received in the
living room which was very beau
tiful in pink and white carnations.
Mrs. J. B. Fitts presided over the
table where the guests registered
in the brides book.
■ On the eleven tables where the
games were played was a pink
basket filled with mints. Later in
thfc afternoon a delightful salad
course and ice course was served.
Sixty guests enjoyed this happy
occasion.
A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY
PARTY.
A small but very congenial
party assembled at the home of
Mrs. D. W. Burson Tuesday after
noon. It was a surprise party, the
occasion being Mrs. Burson’s
birthday. After a delightful hour
of conversation dainty refresh
ments were served by Miss Arle
via Burson. whose loving thought
bad planned the occasion for her
mother.
A number of gifts attested the
love of her friends, and all invited
in wishing for her many happy re
turns of the day.

Rev. J. 11. Mash burn made a
business trip to Atlanta Thursday.
The First Methodist Church has
on a campaign to raise 30,000 for
improvements on the church. M. J.

Rev. and Mrs. W. IT. Faust and
Mrs. \Y. M. Holsenbeek visited
the Rabun County Association in
session at Dillard, Ga., last Wed

Rev. W. If. Faust spoke on the
75 Million Campaign at the Enon
Association at Rock’s Spring
Church, Banks County, near Alto,
last Friday.
Mr, and Mrs. C. O. Maddox
have moved into their pretty new
home on Wood lawn Ave.
Mr. Z. F. Jackson lias been
quite sick for several days.
Mr. W. O. Perry is the guest of
Rev. and Mrs. R. W. Wallace this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Mae Potts moved
this week into their home on Ste
phens st. They are remodeling the
"house and will have one of the
prettiest bungaloes in that section
of the city.
Mr. Hubert Hodges of Watkins
ville, is with the City Drug Store.
He is a son of Dr. Henry Hodges
and a ncpliew of Dr. L. W. Hodges
of our city.
