Social and Personal News Shields-Pims. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Shields of Winder,, announce the engage ment of their daughter, Mary Emma. to Mr. Mark Sims, former ly of Trion, now of Atlanta, the marriage to be solemnized in Nov ember. No Cards. i Miss Shields is one of Winder’s charming and attractive young ladies and Mr. Sims who formerly was a citizen of cur city is now one of Atlanta's promising young business men. Bailey-Smith. Cards have been received by friends here announcing the mar riage of Miss Carrie Elinor Bailey of Jefferson, to Mr. Samuel Eras tus Smith, of this city, on Satur day. October the eighteenth. Mrs. Smith as Miss Bailey has often visited Winder, where she has many friends. She is an unus ually beautiful young lady and has many charming' traits of char acter. Mr. Smith is the second son of Mr. S. P. Smith, and holds a responsible position here with the Gainesville Midland Railway. This young couple has a hosts of friends in Winder who wish for them a bright and prosperous married life. Gordon-Hosch. i Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Gordon, of Jefferson, announce tire engage ment of their daughter. Thelma Elizabeth, to Mr. Willie Hill Hosch, of TToschton, the marriage to be solemnized Saturday, Dee ember 20. at the home of the brides parents. Mr. Hosch, is farm demonstra tor for Barrow County and one of our most popular young men. This announcement will be read with much interest by bis many friends here. Mrs. J. W. Griffeth Hostess. On Saturday afternoon. Mrs. J. "W. Griffeth entertained in honor of Mrs. Howard Rogers, a recent bride, at the beautiful home of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Ferguson, on < Tiureh St. Mrs. .1, W. Griffeth and Mrs. Howard Rogers received in the living room which was very beau tiful in pink and white carnations. Mrs. J. B. Fitts presided over the table where the guests registered in the brides book. ■ On the eleven tables where the games were played was a pink basket filled with mints. Later in thfc afternoon a delightful salad course and ice course was served. Sixty guests enjoyed this happy occasion. A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY. A small but very congenial party assembled at the home of Mrs. D. W. Burson Tuesday after noon. It was a surprise party, the occasion being Mrs. Burson’s birthday. After a delightful hour of conversation dainty refresh ments were served by Miss Arle via Burson. whose loving thought bad planned the occasion for her mother. Mr. and Mrs. W. 11. Faust spent last week in Clayton. Mr. and Mrs. Erasmus Phillips, of Monroe, spent Sunday in the city, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Jackson. Misses Hilda Faust, Nettie and Anita Bagwell, Louise Williams, and Mary Ross spent the past week-end in Atlanta the guests of Miss Mattie Louise Rainey. Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Horton and Rev. J. 11. Mash burn attended the home coming exercises at old Pen tecost Church Sunday p. m. Rev. J. 11. Mash burn made a business trip to Atlanta Thursday. The First Methodist Church has on a campaign to raise 30,000 for improvements on the church. M. J. •GriDr. Georuc DeLalVrriere and L. S. Radforyd compose the committee to raise the above amount which means that it will be done. Rev. and Mrs. W. IT. Faust and Mrs. \Y. M. Holsenbeek visited the Rabun County Association in session at Dillard, Ga., last Wed nesday and Thursday. Rev. W. If. Faust spoke on the 75 Million Campaign at the Enon Association at Rock’s Spring Church, Banks County, near Alto, last Friday. Mr, and Mrs. C. O. Maddox have moved into their pretty new home on Wood lawn Ave. Mr. Z. F. Jackson lias been quite sick for several days. Mr. W. O. Perry is the guest of Rev. and Mrs. R. W. Wallace this week. Mr. and Mrs. Mae Potts moved this week into their home on Ste phens st. They are remodeling the "house and will have one of the prettiest bungaloes in that section of the city. Mr. Hubert Hodges of Watkins ville, is with the City Drug Store. He is a son of Dr. Henry Hodges and a ncpliew of Dr. L. W. Hodges of our city. Mr. 0. M. Jackson lias been ill for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Goforth, of Gainesville, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Hill. Dr. C. 15. Almond spent Friday in Atlanta. Mrs. Garrett Smith and little daughter, of Point Peter, spent a few days recently with Mr. and Mrs. P. I’. Jennings. Mr. Claud Mayne spent Friday in Atlanta. Miss Rita King is out again af ter several days illness. Mesdames W. 11. Quarterman and G. A. Johns spent Wednesday in Atlanta. Misses Icie. Mary and Jennie Smith attended the Southeastern Fair in Atlanta last week. Mrs. Fred Patat and children, of Auburn, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Patat this week. Mrs. Lewis Sams and children, of Madison, have returned home, after spending two weeks’ with Mr and Mrs. Claud Mayne. Mesdames W. C. DeLay has returned from AVhite Springs, Florida, much improved in health. Mrs. J. L. Harris is thought to be some better, but is still quite ill. Mrs. Lula Cain and daughter, Miss Alma, of Auburn, were in Winder Tuesday shopping. Air. Z. F. Jackson is quite ill at his home on Church Street. Mr. C. O Maddox spent Tues day in Atlanta. Miss Grace Godfrey and sister, of near Lexington, Ga.. are at the home of their uncle, Mr. Larnar Roberts. Mr. W. E.
