VOLUME 5. NO, 33 BURGLARS BREAK IN THE MANDERS HOME TA& MEN ENTER HER ROOM TUESDAY NIGHT, BEATING HER OVER THE HEAD AND CHOKING HER. Mrs. Sarah Manders, who keeps some headers in tlie cotton mill section, was attacked Wednesday morning about three o’clock, by two men whose purpose was rob bery. She was known to have some money, but those who attempted this dastardly act were disap pointed as she had made a loan on Tuesday of the small amount she had. Her room was entered while she was soundly sleeping and her mouth was closed by the robbers to prevent her giving any alarm. She received a heavy blow on her bead and her mouth and different places on her face were badly bruised. Mrs. Manders, in the scuffle freed her mouth from their clutches and began to call for help when the robbers became frightened and made their escape. The burglars bad dye on their hands and left the signs of this blue dye on the bed clothing. Two negroes have been arrested r•> suspicion. Further develop ments are in progress and the of ficers in all probability wifi make other arrests before this is read. Every effort is being made to get the guilty parties. REGULAR MEETING BOARD OI 1 EDUCATION The regular meeting of the Board of Education of Barrow County' met at the court house Tuesday. One of the most important mat ters before the board was the esta bleshing of anew school in the W. E. Flanigan and J. T. Wright sect ion. There was-no fight made a gainst estableshing this new school which was very much needed in the splendid ‘community in which it will be located. County school Commissioner, Prof. Ilolsenbeck, and Mr, R. \V. Itaynie, one of the board oi edu cation, will select the location for this school right away. This Times congralutales the the citizens of that fine section on securing a school and commends the board for its wise action. HERE FROM OKLAHOMA Dr. and Mrs. M. E. Enloe, of' 'Ada, Oklahoma, are here on a visit to ME and Mrs. P. P. Smith and other relatives. Dr. and Mrs. Enloe lived here about twenty five years ago and will he pleasanty remembered by many of our people. Mrs. Enloe is a sister of Mr. Smith and it was a happy meeting after so many years separation. The Times is proud to know that Dr. EEnlore has propered in his adopted State and is one of its leading dentists. SERVICES AT STATHAM BAPTIST CHURCH. Rev. E. H. The following assessments were made by the Committee against caneidates in the Primary Election to be held on September Bth, 1920 For Congress: $25.00 For Solicitor General ... 25.00 For State Senate 20.00 For Representative .... 20.00 August 16th, 1920 was fixed as the date for closing entrance in to said Primary Election and as the last date on which assessments at fixed above may be paid to the Chairman or Secretary of the Com mittee. Hon. R. O. Ross was elected as Senatorial Committeeman to the 27th District Senatorial Democra tic Executive Committee. A motion was carried that the committeemen from the respect ive Districts of Barrow County select and advertise as they see fit the place for holding the Primary Election on September Bth. 1920 in their respective precincts. WINDER TAKES THE ONLY GAME PLAYED TRAIN STRIKS ATTOMOBILE Messrs Leon Vincent and Paul Johnson of St at ha in miraculously escaped death last Friday night at the railroad crossing just be yond the cotton mill. They were leaving Winder for home and reached this crossing just as the 11 o’clock passenger train from Atlanta was passing. The head lights were on them be fore they knew it. Paul Johnson was seriously in jured. while Len Vincent escaped with less injury. The Oakland car was completely wrecked. S. S. Convention A t Bethlehem The Barrow Couifty Sunday School Convention will he held in the Methodist church’, Bethlehem, Ga., on Wednesday, August 25th, and the Sunday schools of all de nominations in our county are in vited to send delegates. A strong program dealing with all departments of modern Sun dap school work has been prepar ed. Miss Daisy Magee, Children’s Division Superintendent of the Georgia Sunday School Associa tion, is expect*! to attend this convention. With Miss Magee will he Mr. Z. X. Holler, superintendent of the A'oung People’s Division of the Georgia Sunday School Associ ation. In order that no Sunday school worker be deprivedof the privi lege of attending this convention, no limit will be set on the number 'of delegates who may attend from any Sunday school. All will be welcome. At this convention an attractive banner will be publicly awarded to the Sunday school having the largest number of delegates in r proportion to the distance travel- ed. Under this plan, ten delegates coming ten miles each to the con vention count the same as twenty delegates traveling only five miles each, thus making it fair for all. both near and far. The banner becomes the prop erty of the Sunday school winning it, and may be taken home forget, manent display in the Sunday school room. MEMORIAL SERVICES OVER AT OMER CHURCH Last Sunday the entire commu nity in the old Omer church or the Sharpton cemetery met* for a me morial service and reunion of the neighborhood. Sermon and short talks were made by Revs. Harbin and Brook shire and others. Flowers were placed on the graves of loved ones and a bounti ful dinner was spread for all pres ent. This community meets every year for this memorial service and last Sunday brought several hund red together. AJr. and Mrs J. W. Eaveson. of Bowman, spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Roberts. *1.50 IN ADVANCE ELBERTON, THE CLIMEERS, HERE FOR THREE GAMES MONDAY, TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY On next Monday v Tuesday and Wednesday, August 16th, 17tli and 18th, Klberton will he in Winder for three games. Klberton is lead ing the Million Dollar League with AVinder a close second and these will be the best games of the sea lion. Windr is going after the pennant and if she can defeat El bert on she will grab it, you bet. Both teams have strengthened up and are in the best of condition. Come out and help Winder win. Winder took the game Monday from Thompson by a very close margin of three to four in one of the best games of the year. The game Tuesday was rained out and a double bill was scheduled for AVednesday, but was rained out in the fourth inning without a score. Cochran was at his best and had not given up a hit and Winder had only gotten one hit off Hanneman and was staged for a real pitchers’ battle with everybody playing ball with not an error marked against them. ' he 'limes editor had a cordiai invitation to he present on that occasion and regrets more than he can express his inability to at tend OMITTED LAST WEEK In the hurried writeup in last week’s issue of the Times of the beautiful community town out a few miles from Winder on the highway leading by Bowman’s Mill, the names of Messrs. Pink Giles, James W. House, A. A. Hill, J. S. Hill and Joe Stineheomb, who are also prominent citizens and fine farmers of that community, were left out of the list by mistake of the printer. In addition to the above we would State that 40 years ago all of this community was owned hv four me community was owned by four men, namely, Hartwell Jackson, David Casper, and Valentine Cronic and Sylvester Bowman. Now there are 24 beautiful farms, all in a high state of cultivation, showing Hie value and importance to a county of improved small farms. There are only two colored fam ilies in all of the above area. Mrs. J. 11. Mashburn is in Elber ton this week, keeping house for her daughter, Mrs. C. F. Herndon, who had to carry her little daugh ter to Atlanta for an operation. Rev. .1. H. Mashburn spent Tues day in Atlanta on business. Miss Annie Lee Lamback went to Elberton Wednesday.
