The Terms of Three Councilmen and the Mayor Expire This Year. The city primary "ill come off on the first Wednesday in Novem ber and three members of the conn oil and a mayor are to be elected. Three of the present members of council go over for another year. Mr. (ieorge Thompson, one of our leading young business men, has already announced for mayor and Mr. Jeff Henson, another prom iuent business man has been spok en of for mayor. Mr. S. (’. Kinney, who has been a valuable councilman from the second ward for several terms, has announced for re-election. Mr. Clem Royal has been men tioned in connection with the race for council, also has Mr. W. A. Brooks. No doubt there will be other an nouncements to follow. It is im portant to have strong officials to manage the city affairs for the next two yeaYs so that it may con tinue to grow and prosper. I am now serving as Councilman sit large and chairman of police and water & light commission. J have always stood for the best interests of the city and if elect ed as your Mayor T will do my ut most to serve all the people and perform the duties demanded of me. Stewart, of Auburn, died last Monday after noon in an Atlanta sanitaricni and was buried at Bethabara cem etery 1 his county. He was a promising young man and his death was a great slick to Ms parents and friends. He was operated on for appen dicitis but bis condition had be come so serious before the opera tion took place that be could not overcome it. Barrow County Singing Choir. But mistakes Passion for Love and allows herself to kiss him, hut finally discovers her er ror. She rejects Passion but. Mod esty has left her—to become a wandering exile. Passion prompt ly consoles himself with the beau tiful woman called Vice. Passion longing for revenge has Dissipation steal away beauty, liv ely woman flees taking Youth and Conscience with her. With Beau ty gone she is no longer wanted as a theatrical star. Nevv Year’s eve finds Every woman and Youth poverty strick en wandering in the streets. Fath er Time beckons and Youth leaves' Everywoman forever. She tries to sell herself for wealth hut he will not have her now that Youth and Beauty are gone. It is then that Everywoman finds that Nobody is her friend. As the chimes ring out the New Year. Truth and Con science leave the great church on the other street. Falling at the feet of Truth, Everywoman de clares she is ready now' to follow' her. To the modest cottage of Truth now journeys Everywoman and there discovers that the young phy sieian, the son of Truth, is the Love for whom she has made her long pilgrimage. Modesty, who has been taken in and eared for by Truth and Love, quickly recovers and Love declares that Beauty w ill soon he ransomed by right living. RED CROSS NURSE NOW IN WINDER. Miss Beatrice Daniels, Field Su pervisor of the Public Health Nursing Bureau of the Department Of Nursing Southern Division, Red Cross, Atlanta, Ou., is in Winder to work with Mrs. Ruby Worsham who lias just been assigned as per manent Public Health Nurse for the Red Cross Chapter here. Mrs. Wosliam succeeds Mrs. Oarington who for the past few months has worked unceasingly to stimulate interest in public health both in town and country. Mrs. Carring ton instructed a number of success fill classes in Home Hygiene and Care of the sick and so impressed the people with the valuable con tribution that a nurse could make to this work that the appointment! of Mis. Worsham is the result. Mrs Carrington only took the work on j a perfectly temporary basis hut the appointment of Mrs Worsham) gives permanence to the service, i Mrs. Worsham is a graduate of the Cincinnati (lencral Ihspital. Cincinnati. Ohio,, and served for three years as surgical nurse at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital at Ponce Porto Rico, with additional public health servieve s a member of unit health service as member of Fnit lie Health Service. She is eminent ly well titled 4’or local health work During Miss Daniel’s stay in Winder she will make with Mrs. Worsham a survey of the most ur gent needs of the community with a special view to securing the phy cal examination of the school chil dren. The contribution to assist ing the local physicians she is also in position to explain to parents the need for their cooperation in correcting such defects as may he discovered and also in arranging with physicians for giving the necessary treatments. The Coun ty Health Officer, the County phy sicians and all interested in the genral subjot: of improvd public health will welcome Miss Daniels to Winder and will cooperate in every way with her and Mrs. Wor sham for a practical continuation of the work so well begun by Mrs. Carrington. Barrow (’o. Chapter American Red Cross. The many friends of Mrs. J. IT. Wood are delighted to know she is out again after undergoing an operation several weeks ago at St. Mary’s Hospital in Atheas. OFFICIAL ORGAN OF BARROW COUNTY Winder Gets A New Bale Tues. Mr. A. D. Chapman brought to Winder the Hist bale of new cotton of the season on Tuesday which was placed with the Farmers Warehouse and bought by Mr. 11. K. Blakey at ;>4 cents a pound. The hale weighed 558 pounds and was classed as strict middling. Cotton is opening rapidly for the past few it "ill not he long-before it begins to sell if the prices justify. ) There seems to be no reason why it should not continue to advance and business conditions brighten. MR. AND MRS. CLYDE AP PLEBY VISITORS TO WINDER Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Appleby and children, of Birmingham, Ala., have been visiting his father, Mr.- W. T. Appleby, of this city, and other relatives in Georgia. Mr. Appleby, who has been man ager of the Southern Car Wheel company at Birmingham, has been made manager not only of this big plant, but also of still larger plants at St. Louis, Mo., with per manent headquarters in the latter city. Clyde Appleby has made won derful progress and fully deserves the promotion he has recently re ceived and the salary of $5,000 going with it. His many friends here where he was reared, rejoice in his great success. ONE OF BETHLEHEM S GOOD WOMEN PASSES AWAY. Mrs. Joe M. Smith, one of the beautiful Christian characters of Bethlehem, passed away Tuesday and her death bror.gi t univeisal gi ief and sa-hmss to that entire section. Miss Nancy Doster before her mar riage, had lived a devoted member of the Methodist church for years ami was loved a id appreciated by all who had the pleasure of know ing her. She leaves her husband, eight children and a large circle of rel atives and friends who loved and adored her. The children surviving her are Mrs. A. I>. Buchanan, Law renoe ville: Mrs. I. C. The large two-story brick build ing of Dr. W. L. Busb adjoining tlw Strand Theater,, is near com pletion so far as the brick work goes. This is one of the handsome structures of Winder and when completed will be one of the pop ular corners of the city. It is located on Broad street and the lower floor " ill have space for any large concern, being 50X1*0 feet. The upper story will be fitted up with handsome and up-to-date of fice rooms and a suite of them oc cupied by Dr. Bush for bis dental office. Such buildings as this add greatly to the appearance of a city and cause strangers to stop, look and think. B F. LYLE ON VISIT FROM TEXAS; 24 YEARS AWAY. Mr. P>. F. Lyle, known by most of his friends here as “Bit” Lyle, is on a visit in this county to his brother, Judge Lyle, and nephew, J. R. Johnson, ami other relatives and friends. He left this county, over on the Mulberry river, 24 years ago for Texas, ami this is his first visit during all these years. He looked very much as he did |when leaving, and time has not brought the changes which so of- ten come to men in 24 years. lie is way out near the plains of Texas at deadly and has prosper ed in his adopted state. It will he a great pleasure to his friends here to renew the friend ship of years passed and The Times hopes that his stay of a few weeks will be one of much joy to him and bring hack to memory the happy days of the long ago. MR. MAC WILLS DIE> SUD DENLY WEDNESDAY. Mr. Mac Wills, a native of this county, but who had lived in Han cock county for several years, died very suddenly Wednesday morn ing at his home near Sparta. He had been a widower for a long time and leaves four daugh ters, Misses Osie, Nora. Ethel and Audrey Wills, all of whom live in Winder. He was a brother-in-law ff the late Henry Kilgore, and Mrs. Wal ter K. Lyle and was a clever and honorable citizen. He was about 70 years old and had many friends and relatives in and around Winder. Farmer have opened the Hotel Barrow across the railroad fom the S. A. L. de pot in the building recently erect ed by the Bell .Manufacturing Cos. This is anew building, well Imilt and provided with every conven ience and having 25 rooms. Mr. and Mrs. Farmer recently came here from Charleston, S. C., and we are glad to welcome them into the hotel business here. Mr Robt. Davis, of Rome, Ga., will he traveling salesman for the new firm and he is recognized as one of the leading traveling men on the road. MR. N. J. KELLY TAKEN ILL WHILE VISITING OLD HOME. Mr. N. J. Kelly and Mr. Walter Stanton left Winder on Friday yf week before last for a visit ot a few days at Franklin, N. <'., the home of Mr. Kelly in his young days. While there Mr. Kelly took a se- I \ ere cold and became unite ill. lie reached borne Wednesday of Hast week and was confined to his ! room for several days. His many friends will he glad to learn that he lias about recov ered. Mr. Kelly was a brave confed erate soldier, enlisting from Frank lin and did valienl service during that memorable war for his state and the Confederacy. STATE SENATOR VOTE CLOSE IN BARROW COUNTY The vote for state senator for this district was close in Barrow county. Col. Johns and Prof. J. h. L. Moore both getting the same number of votes. in Oconee county Col. Johns re ceived 103 majority and 406 major ity in Walton. Col. Johns will he a candidate for president of the senate and from reports will he elected to that position. There arc already five announc ed eandidates for president of the Georgia senate. Mr. Allen Carrington is now clerk to the Ordinary to succeed Elton Drake who left this week for the University. The thing for j Allen to do is to have the first mar riage license of the Ordinary is 'sued to himself and some fair jyoung lady.
