Hodges delightfully entertained the Young Matrons <dul) and a few friends last Thurs day afternoon at a lovely bridge party at her attractive home on Broad street. Yellow chrysanthemums in vas es were used as lovely decorations and on each table was placed a bonbon dish filled with divinity candy. A most tempting salad course was served after the games. A delightful event of the week was the bridge party on Monday • afternoon given by Mrs. 11. A. Carithers in honor of Mrs. Cox, the guest of Mrs. Roy Smith. Tea and sandwiches were enjoyed dur ing the afternoon. The guests were Mesdatnes Cox, Roy Smith, 1). F. Thompson, Ralph Smith, Geo. Fortson, R. 11. Kimball. Robert A. Camp, and Howard Rogers. MRS. C. Vases of beautiful chrysanthe mums adorned the attractive rooms in which games of 500 and bunco were played, lion bon dish es tilled with mints were also plac ed on the tables. MISS RUNETTE BENTON HOSTESS One of the enjoyable occasions of the past week was the entertain ment of the Baptist Young People Union on Friday evening by Miss Reunette Benton at her lovely home on Broad street. The rooms were beautifully decorated in Au tumn leaves and chrysanthemum. Games of all kinds were enjoyed THE BARROW TIM ES L. Love Leased Opera House 1 Mr. li. Love, Manager of The Strand Theater, has leased from the owners, the Sharpton opera house and will take charge some time about the first of the year or as soon as repairs can be made. The comity has had this prop erty leased for a number of years which lease expires January Ist. 1921. Mr. Love’s purpose is to bring to Winder at least one good, high class show each week, the class of shows that play Atlanta and Ath ens and feels that the people of Winder and surrounding country Avill support up-to-date opera shows. and late in the evening punch and sandwiches were served to some twenty-five guests. One of the pretty receptions of the autumn was the one given by the Methodist Missionary Socie ties at tin 1 home of Mrs. L. S. Rad ford Friday afternoon from 3 to 5, the honor guest being Mrs. John 11. Mashburn, who leaves soon for her new home in Elberton. I The guests invited were the mem bers of the societies of the other churches. Mrs. W. B. MeCants, Mrs. A. T. Harrison and Mrs. E. A. Starr met the guests at the door. Misses Ev elyn Radford and Elise Starr ser ved punch in the hall and the re ceiving line was composed of Mrs. L. S. Radford, Mrs. John 11. Alash -Imm, Airs. A. T. Harrison, Mrs. A. S. Eberlmrt. Mesdames Young, Wooten. Broome, Couch and Kil gore ushered the guests into the parlor and dining room where sandwiches and tea were served by Misses Annette Quillian, Mes dames Ware, Herrin, Camp. Misses Charlotte MeCants and Pauline Cam]). Mrs. R. L. Rogers and Mrs. J. T. Strange poured coffee. About three hundred guests call ed during the afternoon. BEAUTIFUL TEA. Beautifully planned and charm ing in detail was the tea yesterday by Mrs. Fleming Thompson and Mrs. Ralph Smith at the attractive home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs G. \V. Smith, on Broad street, com plimenting the guest of Mrs. Roy Smith, Mrs. Cox, of Camilla. The rooms were thrown together and decorated in the beautiful autumn leaves which brighten a home with its many colors and vases and baskets of chrysanthemums. Mrs. Grover Moseley and Mrs. Hugh Carithers poured tea from the beautifullyy appointed table in the dining room. Others who as sisted the hostesses were Mrs. G. W. Smith, Mrs. E. F. Saxon, Mrs. Kathleen Smith, Mrs. J. M. Aikin, Mrs. R. 11. Kimball, Mrs Howard Rogers, Mrs. J. . Wilson, Mrs. Roy Jackson, and Mrs. Bob ('amp. Woman s Club Meet Monday Every woman in Winder who is interested in the organization of a Woman's club is invited to be at the school building on Monday af ternoon at 3:30 o’clock. This club is for the public wel fare of Winder and is to he neither social, sectarian or political. Mrs. Parker, of Athens, will ad dress the women present on the subject of duh work. Come to the meeting whether you expect to join or not. DEATH OF MR. GEORGE REYNOLDS Mr. George Reynolds died on Wednesday of last week in this city. lie w as a good citizen and clev er man. He leaves his wife ami four children. The funeral and burial services took place last Thursday at Wal nut Baptisl church in Jackson county, near where he w as reared. First Baptist Church.
