Washington, December 17 The
purchase for President Wilson of
the former home here of Henry P.
Fairbanks, 2340 S street, north
vest. was announced today by R.
AY. Bolling, the president’s broth
er-in-law. The home will be the

the property would pass into pos
session of its new owner February
35 or before.
The price paid was not made
public, but is reported to have
been in the neighborhood of $150,-

four yeaiN ago and is of colonial
brick and limestone. It is sur
rounded by grounds that take up
nearly half a square and is raised
well above the street level.
Friends of the president expect
he will spend much of his time on
the second floor, where there is a
large library and an oval sun par
lor, from which an extensive view
of the city may be had southward
toward the liver. The president,
intends to do much Minting, and
tUe second floor arrangement
seems particularly happy tor one
who'is not in a robust state of
health. Then- are also a formal
reception room and a dining room
on this floor.
The third floor contains six large
bedchambers and four baths,
above tills are servants’ quarters
and a laundry.
The ground floor contains several
large rooms, opening off an en
trance hall. A wide colonial stair
way leads to the floors above.
TALLULAH FALLS SWEPT BY
FLAMES
Tallulah Falls, Cu., December 18.
--Nineteen business establishments
and residences, a barn and several
head of live stock and the major
part of a long trestle extending
through the town were destroyed
at an early hour here this morning
by a fire which started in a garage
in the center of town and which is
i houglit to be of incidiniary origin.
Included in the burned buildings
were the Maplewood Inn and its
annex, the postoftiee with all equip
ment. a number of dwellings in
cluding the summer home of Mrs.
W. f). Ellis, dr., and the garage.
The big tire swept through the
town about 4:30 o’clock Friday
morning, being whipped along by
a high wind that blew from a diree
lion that was very unfavorable to
) he lire fighters.
Due to the fact that two-thirds
of the long railroad trestle was
burned to the ground, mail and
passengers for the present will be
transferred from one end to oth
er and the railroad will maintain
business.
While the railroad will under
take to handle perishable express
promptly, it Is said that it will not
attempt -to ransler froigh. It will
Ire a considerable time lnd'ore the
rebuilding of the trestle can lx*
rushed to completion.
Authorities here suspect that the
lire was purposely startj^ 1 in the
garage in the center ot town, and
while no one has been arrested, it
is stated that sevreal persons are
under surveiLanee.
