Members of the First Chrfbtiau church were surprised Sunday morning when Ihe pastor, Rev. Stanley R. Ombb announced lii.s resignation, to become effective in not less thun ninety days. Tho Resignation was accepted bv the congveation and a meeting ot ihe pulpit supply committee oi the Hoard of Deacons will be held some time soon to select a suc cessor to Dr. Grubb who lias ac cepted the pastorate <>f the Winder Christian The pulpit supply committee is composed of .1 F. The Winder public schools open ed on Monday of last week with an enrollment of over 800 pupils and the superintendent, teachers and pupils all feeling refreshed from the short vacation during the holi days. This term bids fair to be thfi best and brightest in the. history of Winder schooLs, with the determi nation to accomplish move than 'ever before, and every department Is thoroughly organised with this end in view. The parents and al! citizens of the city should aid in bringing this about by doing their duty in cut. teamicrs and pupils. Espee ially is this obligatory oil all par ents of pupils, as they should feed a.greater interest than others in the development of their children, and assisting the teachers to bring to the front latent powers which will enable them to progress and get results'wouth while. BARROW PREACHERS MEET. The weekly meeting of the Ham row County preachers conference oeeured at the First Baptist church Monday, at I*l A. M. The paper of the day was read by Rev. W, .11. Faust. One of the good and respected citizens, of Winder, now nearing his seventy years of age, made a wonderful record during the year i 1 a- record of which lie should feel' proud and that many others should try.l.o make during 1921. BONDURANT GUEST OF INSURANCE CO. • The Travelers Insurance Com pany held it’s annual convention in Atlanta last week at which Mrs. Maude Bondurant and Messrs Walter Stanton and Shannon Smith, who represent this strong company in Winder, were their quests at the Piedmont hotel. Two luncheons and a banquet were given during the convention and much business transacted. At the banquet there were 99 male representatives and Mrs. Bondurant, making in all 100 pres ent. Mrs. Bondurant’s agency in this city, which ranks among the strong ones, was ably represented and she was delighted with tho re ception accorded them and the very pleasant and enjoyable time spent at the-convention. The new city administration was installed into office last Thursday afternoon and proceed ed a1 once to the election oi of ficers. j Some changes were made in the police force, Mr. Earl McEvery Going elected chief and Messrs Ik<- Hall, J. The Compulsory Attendance law requires all children between K and 14 years of age to attend school regularly lor six months be ginning January 1 1921. The only exemptions are those children who have advanced beyond the seventh grade. The lnwiis and counties must enforce this law In share in the state funds.
