A Great Pity.
In his very, very early youth Mr.
Mumpser had been a pretty child.
His friends did not believe this was
possible, and even he had forgotten
all about it until one day he un
earthed a painting of himself at
that period from among some old
lumber. This he handed to his
wife as some compensation for his
present somewhat worm eaten ap
pearance.
“There, Alice,” said Mrs. Mump
ser, proudly exhibiting the picture
to the servant, “that is a portrait of
your master painted when he was a
child.”
Alice gazed open mouthed at the
production.
“Lor’, nmm,” she said after some
moments, a pity it is we have
to grow up, ain’t it?” London

IN MEMORIAM.
Whereaß the sad tidings of the sud
den and untimely death of Ralph Me
Michael, pupil of the Jackson Public
School has come to his teachers and
school mates, who loved him and ap
preciated his manly instincts and
real worth.
Therefore be it resolved by the fac
ulty of the Juckson Public School
and the entire student body, that we
doDlore most poignantly his separa
ration from us, and how in humble
submission to Him who doeth all
things aright. That we feel most
sensibly and deeply the sorrow and
grief suffered bv his heartbroken fath
er and mother, brother and sisters
and would sooth their very sorrow,
and bind up their every wound if we
could, but our arms are too short.
That we point them for consolation
in this their sorest trial to Him who is
too wise to err, and too good to be un
kind.
That a copy of these resolutions
be furnished the family of the deceas
ed.and one each to the city papers
for publication.
