"Meanest little rascals in the world,”
growled a man in a hotel lobby ns a
bellboy dnshed under his nose, almost
upsetting him. “Never look where they
are going and never anywhere when
you want ’em.”
Late that night the man staggered
into the hotel. Two'of the “meanest
little rascals” grabbed him and helped
him to his room. He fell asleep on the
nearest chair. The boys undressed him,
folded Ills clothes neatly and put him
to bed, with a pitcher of ice water
within reach when he should awake.
They took his money and liis watch,
ring and diamond stud to the ottldfe
and gave them to the clerk. In the
morning they were returned to their
owner.
Hotel boys know enougli about many
a mail’s private business affairs to
ruin him if they wished, but they nev
er betray their confidences. Part of
their business is to keep secrets.
The “meanest little rascals in the
world” nre not half as mean as some
people think. On the contrary, if you
really know' them you will find them
ns bright, generous and kind hearted
a lot of enterprising lads as there is
iff the country.—Kansas City Star.

Humor of Color Blindness.
Color blindness has probably existed
ever since the time of Adam, but it has
been recognized for only 130 years.
Those who are color blind sometimes
discover the fact through ludicrous
blunders. The first to describe his own
case (in 1774) was the Quaker j
a prominent chemist in England. At
tending a meeting of the Society ofj
Friends arrayed in scarlet hose, he (
nearly received excommunication for*
his rankly offensive affront and made;
matters worse when he denied the
charge. He was red blind. When he;
received from Oxford the "Investment?
of the scarlet gown” he was able to ap-j
predate the honor, but not the gown.j
It “looked like the trees” to him. He|
came near buying his uume given td
color blindness. But he did not quite
measure up to the standard required;
as he was blind only in one color. —Ed-
ward A. Ayers in Century. 4

Misquotations From Holy Writ. V
The Bible is misquoted more than
any other book. All have heard the
quotation, “The merciful man is mer
ciful to Ids boasts,” us coming from
the Bible, though the Scriptural form
is, “The righteous man regardeth the
life of his beast.”
The quotation from Isaiah readsJ
“Shall a nation be born at once?” bud,
this is habitually corrupted to, “Ana-J
tiou shall be born In a duy.”
“Born unto trouble ns the sparks flyj
upward” Is quoted, “Prone to sin asj
the sparks fly upward.” There arej
wuny quotations attributed to the 81-j
ble that are not to be found In it. “Ea-;
alted to heaven In point of privilege*'-! |
does not appear In the Scriptures, norj j
does “Not to be wdse above what ton
written.” . I
Absalom’s long hair was not the
cause of his destruction, it was his*
head and not the hair upon It that wai i
caught in the tree. | j
Nowadays we say, “Money is thefl
root of evil,” though in the Bible this)
proverb is found to read, “Love ofj
money Is the root of all evil.”
The quotation, “Cleanliness is next*
to godliness,” does not appear In the-
Bible at all.
