Ed Jacksonian; Dear Sir:— 1
notice in your valuable paper of May
16 that there is trouble in the air. 1 1
must be that you told the truth, and
that is why you got into trout 1 , The
truth will always cause trouble a

Jackson, a certain push that has re

and Butts County, and think or eff. ct
to think tliHt any and all persons
that don’t look at things ns th*v r ' <
are necessarily very bad. Now M .
Editor if that push was absolutil
sure that they couldn’t be mistaken
then it would behoove the people ot
this county to stand by with their
mouthsopen and receive instructions ;
but unless they can satisfy the pi o
pla cf this County that they are abso
l.ittly above reproach, and urn nine
in their judgement, 1 think it siamß
ihem in hand to just let ot her p Gotl
and other people’s business alone.
Now Mr. Editor, it is just, probablt
that you told the truth and that, trtn h

The First Man to Fly.
The first man to fly was neither
Dnedulus uor Icarus, but, according to
tlie ancient Teutonic legend, Welland,
the smith. Welland got Into trouble
with King Nhlung of North Jutland,
so the king ordered severed the Achilles
teudons of both of Wleland’s heels.
VVTelaud then built a flying clonk, for
which his brother Egil provided the
feathers. Wieland’s faith was some
what less than that of the usual In
ventor, since he forced Egll to make
the first flight with the cloak. He pur
posely told him to fly against the wind
and to descend with the wind, whlcli
made it certain that he would be too
smashed up when he landed to fly
away with the coat. Egil had a terri
ble fall when he followed bis brother’s
advice. Wleland, having made sure
that the cloak worked all right, put It
on and flew away, deserting his
brother.
Student’s Heirloom.
Professor Masson of Edinburgh, au

was once exasperated by the listless

After hearing long in silence the young
man’s inattention the professor one
day broke off in the inldst of Iris lec
ture aud addressed himself to the stu

“May 1 ask, sir,’’ sahl he. “whether
you expect to pass this course?”
“1 hae hopes, sir,” answered the stu
deut.
“Then when the examination comes,
sir, you will wish for notes on these
lectures. What will you do for them?”
“I hae my father’s, sir.” was the re
