LANDING IN ENGLAND. Going Through the Custom House Is a Simple Matter There. There is no country where the mat ter of landing from American pas senger ships is so easy and so expedit iously done as England, says the Trav el Magazine. Of course, it is a free trade country, the freest in the whole world. There are duties levied on tobacco and spirits, but travelers are allowed a half pound of tobacco, In any shape and a half pint of spirtts, which also means the same as perfume. Sugar is dutiable, whether in grain, sweets or in jam, but a small quantity is freely passed. In all cases, however, these goods must be the actual property of the passenger, and he for Iris use and con trol. Cocoa, coffee and tea are also dutiable, an are reprints .of English hooks. Outside of these things, as named, passengers can bring In any thing, motors, cycles, horses, but not dogs, for which animal a not to ex ceed six months quarantine awaits. Keep dogs on the American side. The customs officials are life ap pointees—under the civil service—and will be found most obliging and help ful. In fact, they are a model to the customs world. Tell the truth at all times to these officials and you will be all right. They are marvellously keen on spotting the supposedly smart liar, ONE OF THE QUALIFICATIONS. Mrs. Startuppe—Ah, professor! And how is my daughter getting on with her music? Do you think she will ever become a great singer. Professor —Madam, it is very hard to say. Mr3. Startuppe—But she pos sesses some of the qualifications? Professor—Ach; Yes, madam; she has a mouth. —Philadelphia Inquirer. CONCESSIONS. “Don’t you think the railways ought to make some concessions to the peo ple?” “We do make concessions.” answer ed Mr. Dustin Stax. “Some of u? railway men are rich enough to run trains entirely for our own pleasure and convenience. Yet we let the pub lic ride on the cars.” —Washington Star-. DOCTORS PRESCRIBE SULPHUR. But Sulphur Should Be Used in Liquid Form Only. “Hancock’s Liquid Sulphur is the most wonderful remedy for Eczema I have ever known,” writes Dr W W. Leake, of Or lando, Fla., who was cured of a case of years’ standing. Dr. W. A. Heard, of Maitland, Fla., was cured of Eczema after he had suffered for thirty years, aud says: “Hancock’s Liquid Sulphur is the finest remedy for all Skin troubles I have ever used or prescribed.” Doctors everywhere prescribe it, hut they say Sulphur should he used in liquid form only, as it is in Hancock’s Liquid Sulphur. Druggists seil it. Booklet free, if you write Hancock Liquid Sulphur Cos., Balti more. People often ask what is a good brand of Salmon. “Argo Red Salmon” Is the best possible answer. He Waved at “Anything.” Editor E. A. Eaton of the Idaho Springs Siftings-News is responsible for this sfory. He says that there is a popular conductor on the Colorado & Soutffern whose run takes him through Idaho Springs every day, and who al ways at the townspeople. In order that no one will know who the con ductor is, Editor Eaton gives his ini tials only. They are Pat. In the office of the Siftings-News is a young wo man who used to go to the window each day and receive a wave from the conductor. One day she said to the editor: “That conductor is a mighty pleas ant man. He always waves to me when his train passes.” “Pooh!” replied Eaton. “He’d wave at anything.” “He would not!” replied the girl hotly. “I’ll show you,” said Eaton. There upon he got the office broom and ! dressed it up to look like a woman. He stood it up in the window and j then they waited for the train. It fi nallv came along with the conductor ! on the platform. As he passed the Siftings-News office the conductor ! smiled and waved at the broom with ‘ both hands.
