If the writer ever runs for Congress he will run on the platform that the JACKSON, GEORGIA, FRIDAY, AUG. go 1907. government build a marble palace for embezzlers, grafters, and nil such high brad tbievsa, and that chicken and watermelon thieves be made to black their beets and wait on them at table. We are firm believers in tha fitness af things. An open letter to the Mayor and Council of the City of Jackson. To the Mayor and Council of she city of Jackson: We see in the legal ads in the Jacksonian that you are ordering another Bond Elec tion asking the people oi t Jackson to vote for a Ten Thousaud dollar bond issue •‘For the purpost of extending and perfecting” the water works system of the City of •Jackson* Now gentlemen we do not mean to be considered as wanting to hinder the pro gress and upbuilding of Jack- son but as well wishers of the future prosperity of the town, and as Tax payers we feel that we are entitled to the in formation we arc seeking, we assure you that a great many of Jackson’s tax payers are very anxious for y ;he infor mation. Whether it is or not a fancy theory that our city government is based on the proposition ‘*of the people, for the people and by the people,” we think as the serv ants of the people in theory at least, you should give the cit izens of Jackson this informa tion. Thinking that such inter nal improvements as water works and electric lights would be for the supply ing of the needs of the town and place us up with SPICY LETTER FROM MR. J. 0. COLE. Ed Jacksonian : I wish to say a few words in regard to report on W. Thomas Cawthou befor the Grand Jury last woek. The young man who doss business here at my store, and who is boarding with me. To begin with I want to say that we have more respect for our wives a id mothers and neighbors wives than to allow whiskey sold at our front door, and I want to say that I did not build the bouse for that’purpose. and furthermore I want to say that I nev er saw Mr. Cawthon take a drink, much less sell any; and right here I want to give this the black lie, one of the blackest’that has ever been re ported from Iron Spring district. And even our dear neighbors were ut terly suprised at such reports, and also the witnesses wers surprised at being brought ud before the Grnad Jury against Mr Cawthon when they knew he never sold a drop. I first thought it was some old Hy pocrytical sister and then we thought it some crazy mao and than we didn’t know who it was. We tMuk that the Or and Jury would do mors good ■mrehing for this crazy paraen who la loosa in our ceaimßDity, than they would hunting this an called blind tiger, for tbia man is dangerous he might steal something or bite some body. We think each a man ie a shame on |tbe community, nod we are sure that tha good people of our community io ashamed of the report er, and if ai>oma would eouae the buz zrds to peek him they would eot bias up before sub down. If you have anything agalnat a mao go to him before yau go to tha Qrand J ury and fiad out whether you or# re p irtiug a man that aaada reporting or not. I think after this yau ought to oomo to the front and be a man or a woman which ever tha case maybe and not go aronnd reporting peoplo to tho Qrand Jury through lotters who never THOUGHT of selling a drop of whiskey much less sell any, The report to the Grand Jury was through a Utter and It read some thing like this: “There is a blind tiger in our com munity run by Tom Cawthon at tho old Barber place that needs to be at tended to.” And also said that they would give the namee of the people who patronize It. Firat they give the advancement of the times we have stood for the bond is sues already made but we do not feel that we can go further in the dark and being a mong those who are thinking and looking forward for the best interest of Jackson we re spectfully submit that we de sire some information on the subject before we can consent to go further with you* This informotion had we may yet be with you for an addiaional bona issue for $10,000.00. What we want to know is this: Ist How much money did the City realize from the sale of “Water Bonds?” 2nd Will you please give us an itemized statement, full aud complete, with vouchers referred to of expenditures of the money raised from the sale of “Water Bonds?” 3rd How much money did j the city realize from the sale ! of “Electric Light Bonds?” i 4th Will you please give lus an itemized statement, full aud complete, with vouchers NUMBER 36 MERRETT BURFORO BRINGS IN FIRST BALE COTTON. The first bale of new cotton wag brought to Jackson Last Tuesday 1 morning Aug. 27 by Merrett Burford, a nigger who lives on Dr. J. Lee By ron’s place two miles north of town. MAJ. CRUMP FOR CON GRESS FROM THE 6TH. There is rumor whispering around tha". Maj. Crump of Bibb w’ll be in the race for Congress from this dist rict. Maj. Crump is an all round jolly fellow and is exceedingly popu lar, and if he decides to make the race will stir up some excitement. Maj . Crump is the man of Macon dummy fame. Snobs in high places assume greet airs and are pretentious in all they, do, and the higher the elevation tbel more conspicuous is the incongruity of their position.—Samuel Smiles. j Lawrence Maddox. Lawrenoe rays ha doea not allow such a thing as that to go on in his community with out him knowing something of it, and he says he was shocked with aurpzlso when the Grand Jury ask him about Mr. Oawthon. And to Mr. Hugh Lae a man who nerer tasted a drop of whiskey never bought or seen a drop eold in his lift. And I want to say ha is a constant visitor of Mr. Oswthons plaoe of business, lain ths store most every day only lives about threo hun dred yards from tho store. And believes if thers was any whis key tkere he eould hay# smalt it if ha had not haya eeeu it. We understand from the way tha report went in that the reporter needs to be tried for Insanity. The Grand Jury did netrespeettks report enough to keep It from tho pnhlio. I fell that I ought to tako aoma ex ceptions to this falso report as my plaoe wee so distinctly pointed out. I hope no one will take exemptions to this pleco as 1 fesl that ths report er hasn’t senoe enough to taka excep tions and I want to any to tho next Oread Jury If thay catch that report er cut off his tail and crop his sar so that we may know him when we see him, and we will do the same If caught in our trap. J. O. COL£. refered to, of the expenditure of the money raised from the sale of “Electric Light Bonds? \ sth Is the city of Jackson in debt and if so, how much and for what purpose was the debt created, and to whom does the City owe this debt? Will you give us a business like an swer full and complete? 6th You say you want to “extend and perfect” the wa ter works. Will you please tell us along which streets will you “extend” and where in will you “perfect” the water work system? Now Gentlemen please give us ans vers to all of the fore going questions before we vote again on another bond issue. We do not think this infor motion should be withheld from the people at such a time. Very Truly, Information Seekers. Jackson Ga. Aug. 24 1907,
