Mr. and Mrs. Jordan returned to their home in Broxton Tues day. Mrs. Mack Goodwin and little son spent Tuesday in-Locust Grove. Mrs. I. B. Smith is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. T. J. Dempsey. % ___________ A bevy of girls spent Wednes day most pleasantly with Miss Leonora Futt. Miss Dolly McKibben attended a masquerade party in McDou- Friday evening. Col. Ernest Watkins spent a few daps of last week in South Georgia “hunting.” Miss Floy Maddox entertained a large number of friends at a turkey dinner last Sunday. Mrs. Potts, of Winder, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. T. M. Furlow, on Dempsey avenue. Adelle Nutt has returned from a most pleasant visit to Miss Gussie Bell Rawls in Dublin. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Chambliss and son were guests last week of Dr. and Mrs. 0. C. Webb. Mr. Joseph McCord of Atlanta, spent the week-end with the fam ily of his brother, Captain J. W. McCord. Miss Mattisu Ham entertained a congenial party of young lady friends at a spend-the-day party on last Friday. Misses Tallie Jolly and Helen Smith went up to Atlanta Tues day to see “The Walls of Jeri cho” at the Grand. Mr. J. A. Kimbell and family have returned from Henry coun ty, where they spent the Christ mas holidays with relatives. Miss Annie Crawford and Dr. Bob Crawford, spent part of last week in Jenkintfburg with their sister Mrs. T. P. Atkinson. > * Miss Lilian McDowell who has been the guest of Miss Lucy Goodman for a few days has re turned to her home in Atlanta. Miss Jane Stanfield left Thurs day for Atlanta, where she will continue her studies at Washing ton Seminary. \ Ruth and Helen Carmichael are critically ill with typhoid fe ver, to the regret of their many friends.. Joe Wall spent Sunday in Lo cust Grove with his brother. Mrs. Emma Mallett entertained royally at a feast Saturday of last week. Mr. Paul Baker was down down from Atlanta Saturday to see friend (s)! Prof. L. D. Watson's friends were delighted to see him in Jackson last week. Mrs. W. C. Bryant, of Corne lia, was the guest of Mrs. Good win last Friday. Mrs. Ed Peek, of Locust Grove, was a recent, visitor to friends in Jackson. Mrs. |Bailey and children were the guests of Mrs. Ed Merritt, of Jenkinsburg, last week. Miss Ethel Walthall visited her sister, Mrs. J. H. Pope, of Worth ville, several days the past week. Sasnett Crum had as his guests Christmas day Misses Florence and Felicia Morrison, and Jack Dempsey. Mr. and Mrs. R. N. Etheridge spent a few days recently in At lanta, as the guest of Miss Gladys Reid. After a, most pleasant visit to relatives in our city, Mr. and Mrs. J, C. Pittman have returned to their home in Dublin. Dr. W. L. DeLaPerriere, of Winder, was in Jackson Sunday on “social business”. A. W. J. Wright and W. P. Collier, visited E. L. Wright near McDonough last week. Miss Bessie Thaxton left Mon day for Fincherville, where she will have charge of the school. Miss Pall Strange of Atlanta, was the guest of Miss Alice Mae Hanes last Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Turner have rooms with Mrs. Bob Lyons on Third Street. Mr. Cowan of Atlanta, visited one of Jackson’s fair young ladies last Sunday. Miss Nina Harris spent a por tion of this week with friends in Macon. Mr. J. H. Beckham of Concord was in Jackson this week visit- 4 ing friends. The many friends of Mrs. J. W. McClure will be sorry to hear of her critical illness. J. H. Mills, of Jenkinsburg, was visiting among friends here Tuesday. After a very pleasant visit to relatives in Atlanta, Mrs. J. M. Ball has returned to her home. Subscribe for The Progress. Miss Ada Sams is receiving much attention in Atlanta as the guest of Miss Agnes Lyon. Emmett Walthall came down from Atlanta Christmas day to be with homefolks. Jim Etheridge took Christmas dinner with his parents in Hous ton Cos. C. E. Gresham of Atlanta, spent several days of last week with Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Gibson. Miss Alma Henderson a very attractive young lady of Atlanta, was the guest last week of Mrs. A. F. McMahon. Mrs. R. E. Brown of Locust Grove, visited her sister, Mrs. Annie Webb during the past week. Claude Bowles has returned from a delightful trip to Florida. He says the “Land of Flowers” ranks next to Georgia. Mrs. A. G. Hitchens and Miss Rosebud, left Tuesday for Atlan ta to spend Christmas with little Ed Walthall Jr. Miss Bertha Carmichael, one of Jackson’s most lovable young ladies is the guest of Mrs. H. S. Rowland of Decatur. Mrs. W. E. Cantrell has re turned to her home in Emerson, after a fortnight’s visit to rela tives in Jackson. Miss Lillian Price, a very charming young lady of Locust Grove, is the much admired guest of Miss Minnie Bailey. Miss Bessie Ham leaves for Winder Saturday, where she has charge of the department of ex pression in a private school. Miss Pullin returned Tuesday to her home in Griffin, after spending a few day with Mrs. J. M. Kinard. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. J. Wright of Iron Spring were the guests of their daughter, Mrs. W. P. Collier on Christmas day. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bean of Hawkinsville, were among the out-of-town guests to the Gilmore- Meredith wedding. Col. Nally returned to his home in Dallas, Ga., Wednesday night after spending the day with Mr. S. M. Pope. Harold and George Mallett at tended the house party last week in Dublin, given by Miss Gussie Belle Rawls. The Progres has been informed that Harold Mallet is writing a book on agriculture. For further information see Col. Ernest Wat kins. Mrs. George Gilmore went to Flovilla Tuesday to see her moth er, Mrs. Ogden, who has been in very feeble health for several months. Little Atlee Carmichael is very ill Mrs. Mollie Coleman left Mon day for an extended visit to friends in South Georgia. Jack Dempsey left Tuesday to resume his work at Emory Col lege. Misses Hazel and Maggie Cole man of Hawkinsville, were among the out-of-town visitors to the Gilmore-Meredith wedding. Ellison McGuffy and Bert Car michael enjoyed hunting last Friday in the Woodstown neigh borhood. After spending a most pleasant week with homefolks in Barnes ville, Dr. R. A. Franklin return ed to Jackson last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Copeland were visitors to McDonough Sat urday and Sunday. ■* Mrs. Emma Mallett charming -17 entertained a number of her friends to dinner on last Satur day. Among the beautiful dinners given on Christmas day, was the one at which Mrs. J. W. Crufn entertained. Mrs. T. m. Furlow entertained at *a family dinner last Sunday. Covers were laid for twelve, and a delicious menu was served. The spend-the-day party which Mrs. R. P. Sasnett gave Friday was one of the most enjoyable affairs of the past week. Mrs. C. E. Carter who has been visiting her brother, Mr. C. S. Maddox, returned to her home in Concord Tuesday. W. N. Sasnett reached Jackson Christmas night and will be with relatives for several days. He has an important position in one of the banks of Shellman. Mr. and Mrs. John Sams enter tained at an elaborate dinner on Christmas day Rev. L. R. Wig gins, wife and son, Rev. S. P. Wiggins, wife and Tigner. The week just closed was one of unusual interest. Receptions were given almost every evening during the week, to say nothing of the less formal affairs. I Mrs. W. J. Gibson deserves the blue ribbon for raising large chickens. Recently she killed one which weighed nearly nine pounds. Miss Lena White is at home again after several months ab sence in Virginia. She spent a an enjoyable Xmas day with her grandmother, Mrs. Elizabeth Currie. ' Miss Maggie Manley and broth er George, have returned to their home in McDonough, after a few days stay in our town with rela tives. The many Jackson friends of Mrs. Butler, are gratified to hear of her convalescence from a recent operation in Atlanta for appendicitis. Mrs. Z. T. Buttrill entertained a number of friends and relatives at an elaborate dinner Jast Fri day. The house was beautifully decorated with holiday greens. Several courses were served. Mrs. Nally returned to Dallas, Georgia, Wednesday. Misses Ei a Morrison and Grace Jarrell have returned to Bessie Tift, in Forsyth. Mr. L. D. Ezelle of MonticelloJ was the guest of S. M. Pope Sat urday of last week. They spent Sunday in Hoi lon and Macon. Miss Fannie Pope, a former Jacksonian, but now of Lyons Georgia, is expected soon to visit her brother’s family, Mr. S. M. Pope. Charlie Wagner came down from Calhoun Sunday and spent the day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Wagner. One of the most charming visitors in Jackson during the holidays was Miss Ethel Smith of Orlando Florida, who was the guest of Miss Ernestine Demp sey. Otis Tollerson of McDonough, Tom McKibben of Eatonton and Clinton Woods of Monticello, were guests of Pitts McKibben during the holidays. Mrs. S. T. Moore entertained at a family reunion dinner last Thursday. The house was at tractively decorated in holiday colors and a delicious course din ner was served. Otis Ham entertained at two tables of trail on last Friday evening. The rooms were in bright holiday attire of red and green, holly, evergreens and bells. S. 8., J. M. and W. C. Kinard and Charlie Kimball spent a de lightful Xmas in South Georgia on a camping trip. They enjoy ed hunting and fishing around West Lake. The University of Georgia will add at least one apt pupil to its student body, in the person of Clayton Buchanan, he having left for that place Wednesday. T. J. Land formerly of Jack son, but now of New York, spent Christmas week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Land. He left Monday for Miami, Florida, where he will remain during the winter. Her guests were Misses Carrie and Mary Sims Eakes of Griffin, Sue Watts, Lu cile Elder of Flovilla, Maggie and Hazel Coleman of Hawkinsville, A lovely affair of Christmas day was the dinner given by Mrs. F. L. Walthall at her home on Lyons Street. The decorations throughout the house were sug gestive of Christmas. A- de licious three course menu wag served. Those invited were, Mr. and Mrs. J. H.
