1908
A Year of Many Political
Electors.
If Second Primary For State
House Officers Is Held, Six
Elections Will Be Held
During The Year.
There *will be some voting in
Georgia during the year 1908.
In addition to three elections,
which are required by law to be
held, there will be two state pri
maries, making a total of five
state elections during the year.
The first one of these will be the
primary to select delegates to the
first state convention whose only
business will be to name dele
gates to the National Democratic
convention at Denver. Of
course, considerable interest will
attach to this owing to some ex
pected changes in the present as
pect of things, but it is hardly
likely to attract widespread at
tention.
State Primary In August.
The next election will be the
state primary for state house of
ficers, which, according to pies
ent plans will be held June 4th.
There will be a state con
vention also following this pri
mary, at which state house offi
cers will be formerly nominated.
There are already, contests for
several of the state house offi
cers, notably for state schoo
commissioner, railroad commis
sioner (three to be elected) an
prison commissioner. At this pri
mary also the people will nominate
candidate for United States Sena
ator, who will be elected by the

Regulation State Election.
The 3rd election will be the
regular state election on the first
Wednesday in October, as re
quired by law, which will be the
formal carrying out of the will of
the people as expressed in the
primary for state house officers.
The 4th, will come the nation
al election, required by law to be
held on the first Tuesday follow
ing the first Monday in Novem
ber, at which presidental electors
and congressmen will be voted
for. In addition to the foregoing
many -counties will hold their
primaries separate and apart
from the regular state primary,
while not a few city elections are
scheduled to take place.
Elect J. P.’s In January 1909-
The sth election, while it does
not really come during 1908, is
very close to it. On the first
Saturday in January, 1909, which
will be second day, it is required
by law that an election be held
for justices of the peace in every
county of the state. These elec
tions are held once every four
years, and next January there
will be 1,647 justices of the peace
to be elected, The prospect is,
altogether, that the average vo
ter will be kept pretty busy dur
the year.
