Wiggins entertained "The Tennis Club" at a George Washington dinner last Saturday, celebrating the birthday of her husband, Rev. S. P. Wiggins, who is a member of the club. The dinner table had as its floral centerpiece a large cut glass vase of jonquils •on an exquisite de sign of embroidery. The place cards were miniature tennis racquets made of linen paper with pen and ink sketch, and up on each a conundrum was writ ten which created much merri ment. Covers were laid for eight and at one o'clock the guests were invited into the din ing room where a four-course dinner was beautifully served. At the close of the feast small cake hatchets were given as souvenirs, carrying out the Washington idea. The social side of the dinner was delightful. Mrs. Wiggins fully sustained her reputation as an entertainer on this occasion. Those invited were: Rev. Van Deventer, Mes srs. Lee Smith, R. L. Smith, W. H. Butler, T. J. Dempsey, R. P. Sasnett and Rev. S. P. Wiggins. PERSONS ALEXANDER A beautiful event was the wed ding of Mrs. Fleeta Alexander and Mr. John Dozier Persons, which took place at the home of the bride’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. F. White, in the presence of a large number of the friends of both young yeople. An aisle of white ribbon was formed by little Misses Virginia White, Fannie Persons, Mary Lou Ferret, Inez Smith, from the staircase to the drawing room to which the bride’s little daugh ter proceded her and her maid of honor, Miss Bessie White, scat tering rose petals where they were met by the groom and his best man, Mr. Howard Persons. Mendolssohn's wedding march was rendered by Mrs. W. S. White of Fort Valley. During the ceremony she softly sang “My Guiding Star.” The bride was lovely in her wedding gown of marquesette over chiffon broad cloth and white taffeta with man darian sleeves. In her hair she wore a circle of orange blossoms. The maid of honor wore a beau tiful lingerie frock over white satin. After the ceremony which was performed by Rev. Mathew Harris, ices were served by Mis ses Effie and Lucile Elder, Pearl Gardener and Alice Smith, wearing dainty white dresses and pink sashes. In the hall Misses Beatrice El OUR SCHOOLS. While this paper has always been a warm friend to the schools of oua town and county it intends to take a deeper interest in them during the ensuing year. We believe it is the duty of every cit izen to take a live interest in our schools. During the years that are past scores of diplomas have been handed out as class after class of our young people have stepped out of school life into life’s school. Would that we could, in this issue of our paper place before its readers the familiar face of each and every one, but such is among the impossibilities, for Grim Death, on his white horse, has thinned the ranks and as Death loves a shining mark, ” many of the most promising fell before reaching the noon-day of life, but we can assist in keeping green their memories. Our school home! What words fall upon the ear with so much music in their cadence as those which recall the scenes of school days now numbered with the memories of the past? Intervening years have not dimmed the vivid colorings with which memory has adorned those joyous days. While we all gradute in much the same manner how different has the wheel of fortune turned. Some with plaintive tongues have had to walk in lowly vales of life’s weary way, others in loftier hymns, have sung of nothing but joy, as they have trodden the moun tain top, but no matter how near the summit or base of the mountain of fame you meet with a graduate from our schools, you meet with one who is a better man or woman than he would have been without our schools and colleges. “As the twig is bent so is the tree inclined,” and habits were formed under the moulding power of a moral atmosphere which permeate our schools and which stays by one through life. Our school is indeed the golden link that binds youth to age, and he is still but a child, however time may have furrowed his cheek or silvered his brow who can yet recall, with a soften ed heart, the happy school days of long ago. der and Louise Smith served punch. The bride’s going-away gown was of castor broadcloth with hat and gloves to match. Mr. Persons and his bride left on the evening train for Florida, where they will spend several weeks before going to their handsome new home in Monti cello. —Macon Telegraph. MRS.
