Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Robison
entertained at dinner recently in
a hospitable manner. Those in
vited were: Mr. and Mrs. P. R.
Watkins, Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
Gibson.
• Mrs. Bob Etheridge has re
turned from Macon where she
has been with her sister, Miss
Leila Hodges, who has had an
operation for appendicitis per
formed.
Jackson regrets very much in
losing Mr. and Mrs. Vines Col
lier. They will move to Bruns
wick. Mr. Collier leaves Monday,
but his wife will not go until
the first of April.
James, the son of Capt. and
Mrs. E. J. Williams, came down
Tuesday evening from Dahlonega
to visit his grandmother, Mrs. E.
E. Pound, while Mrs. Williams is
under treatment at Robison’s
Sanitorium in Atlanta.
The many friends of Miss Leila
Hodges who has been ill at the
Macon hospital for the past three
weeks will be glad to learn that
she has sufficiently recovered to
be brought to Jackson, and is
now with Mrs. R. N. Etheridge.
Col. W. A. Harris with a
United States officer, will inspect
the Jackson Rifles on Monday,
March 23rd. The company is in
fine condition, and expect to
make the usual creditable show
ing, that they have made hereto
fore, if not better.
There will be a public debate
at the school auditorium on Fri
day evening, March 13th, be
tween the boys and girls debat
ing societies, “Resolved, That the
University of Georgia should be
open to girls.” Affirmative,
boys; negative, girls.
Miss Viola Slaughter enter
tained Friday afternoon in honor
of her music class. A number
of interesting musical games
were played. Miss Pearl Harden
won the first prize in a contest
of musical games. Delightful
refreshments were served.—At

Hon. J. Walter Wise of Fay
etteville, one of the three candi
dates for the solicitor general of
the Flint circuit, was in the city
.yesterday and made an address
at the court house at 11 o’clock.
He made an excellent speech and
was given close attention by his
hearers.—Griffin News.

THE 18TH tHRTHDAY OF
CAPT. F. L. WALTHALL
A merry party was entertained
at dinner at the hospitable home
of Capt. and Mrs. F. L. Walthall
last Saturday in celebration of
his eighteenth milestone. Cap
tain Walthall is the oldest man
in the county to have seen only
eighteen birthdays; at one time
during his life it was eight years
between his birthdays.
At twelve-thirty o’clock the
guests were invited into the din
ing room where a most elegant
dinner was served by Mrs. Wal
thall, who was assisted by Mrs..
W. J. Gibson.
Souvenirs for the occasion were
dainty bouquets of violets.
Those entertained were Mr.
and Mrs. A. J. Roberts, Mr. and
Mrs. W. J. Gibson, Mrs. J. H.
Pope and children, Emmet Wal
thall of Atlanta, W. A. Watkins,
and Miss Eloise Pound.
SPEND-THE-DAY PARTY
Miss Ada Sams was hostess at
an enjoyable spend-the-day party
on Sunday last.
Ferns, palms and narcissus
were used in the two parlors,
making the rooms attractive with
their brightness and fragrance.
While in the dining room the
color of purple and yellow were
carried out. In the center of
the table was a huge cut glass
bowl of violets placed upon an
embioidered piece. Vases of
jonquils and hyacinths adorned
the sideboard and mantel.
The places were marked by
bouquets of violets for the ladies,
and hearts tied with tiny bows
for the gentlemen, which carried
out the leap year'idea. An elab
orate five course menu was
served.
Those who were invited were,

A SURPRISE PARTY.
One of the most enjoyable oc
casions of the past week was the
surprise party to Miss Elizabeth
Sams on Friday evening, given
by the members of the younger
set. Games and music were en
joyed* after which fruits were
served.
Those present were, Misses
Lillie Childs, Lillie McClure,
Eloise Meredith, Eva Key Bailey,
Fannie Myrtice Biles, Fannie
Barnes, Annie Gilmore and Annie

HISS EDWARDS ENTERTAINS
HER SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS
Miss Maude Edwards enter
tained the little boys and girls of
her Sunday school class recently
at the home of Mrs. F. M. Allen
on College-st Out-of-door games
were highly enjoyed, and at 4:30
o’clock fruits were served. The
children went home delighted
with the afternoon’s fun.

TERTAINS AT TEA.
The tea given by Mrs. McMa-
hon on Thursday evening at her
home on east Third-st was an
occasion of most informal but
charming hospitality.
The table was pretty in its
tasteful arrangements. The cen
ter-piece was a growing pink
hyacinth resting on an elaborate
lace piece.
Mrs. McMahon entertains with

“loyal” support in the past, and
during my stay in the Clerk’s
office, did my best to show my
appreciation by doing my every

satisfy both my people aftd the
law..
This announcement will be
sufficient, I hope, as the voters
of this county know me and my
fitness for the office I ask at their
hands, hence, I shall not under
take to canvass the county, but
wish to set a precept that I know
many good people will endorse,
and one that the county has long
felt the need of, viz., that a
man’s announcement should be
enough for him to do. Let the
people do the rest. Away with
canvassing, bothering, nagging,
offering coin, pulling and trying
to persuade men from their hon
est dictates.
Let every man vote his honest
convictions, and every man take
his hat off to whatever is his
