COL. O. H. B. BLOODWORTH
ANNOUNCES FOR CONGRESS
To the voters of the Sixth Con
gressional District:—l am a can
didate for Congress subject to the
Democratic nomination.
Before the election—the date
of which has not been fixed — I
would like to grasp the hand and
speak face to face with each
voter in the district, but this will
hardly be possible. Hence, I
shall endeavor to reach the voters
and make known my platform
—my views on public questions
through the medium of letters,
the newspapers and public ad
dresses.
Whereof I speak I will be glad
to have my distinguished op
ponent meet me in joint debate;
and shall invite him to do so.
Believing in a clean election
and an honest ballot, I am op
posed to the use of money, whis
key, or any other thing for the
purpose of purchasing votes; and
believe the Executive Committee,
should refuse to declare as the
FIRST OF SIX PLANTS WILL
BE ERECTED NEAR JACKSON
Anew chapter in the history
of Jackson and Butts county will
commence with the work on the
mammoth power plant on the
Ocmulgee river of the Central
Georgia Power Company, and
this work will commence as soon
as Hon. W. Jordan Masse, of
Macon, president of the company
returns from New York where
he is concluding the arrange
ments for a bond issue of $16,-
000,000.
These bonds have been pur
chased by New York financiers
and the sale of them and the
issue of $20,000,000 worth of
stock has just been approved by
the state railroad commission.
The company intends to build six
power plants on Georgia rivers
but work will be first started on
the big plant along the Ocmulgee
near Jackson. The river, when
harnessed at this point, will de
velop 20,000 or more electrical
horse power and with this cheap
SCHOOL CENSUS ORDERED
DURING MONTH OF APRIL
A school census of Georgia was
ordered by the State Board of
Education at a recent meeting
held in the Governor’s office in
Atlanta. It may be taken any
time during the month of April,
but must be taken under the
supervision of the county boards
between April 1 and May 1.
Proper plans will soon be sent
out from the State commission-,

The school census must be

It was announced at the meet
ing that since January 1 approx
imately $1)00,000 has been sent
out to the different counties by
the State treasurer for the pay
ment of teachers on last year’s or
the present year’s salaries.
State Commissioner Pound said
that it would be the special ob
ject of his office to get the money
out tins year just as early as the
law would permit
It is probable that the census
will show a large increase of
children of school age in the city
of Jackson and Butts county.
The census will probably be ar
ranged for at an early date.

Not counting the Republican
regime just after the war, and
when there was a Republican
Congressman whose home was
in Macon, Bibb County has had
—with the exception of two
years—the Congressman con
tinuously for over a third of a
century. Hon. J. H. Blount was
in congress twenty years and
Judge Bartlett, at the expiration
of the present term of office, will
have served fourteen years, mak
ing a grand total of thirty-four
years for only two men and both
from Bibb county.
Is it not about time for Bibb to
divide honors with the other
counties of the district?
Very Respectfully,

current for lighting, transporta
tion and manufacturing purposes
will mark anew era in the
industrial history of Jackson and
the surrounding country.
Before leaving for New York,
President Massee said the com
pany would bring to Georgia
thousands of dollars to be invested
in manufacturing plants to use
this big amount of electric cur
rent and it is believed that con
siderable will be invested in the
immediate neighborhood of the
power plant near Jackson.
While none of the officers of
the company have expressed
themselves on the point, it is
believed in Atlanta that the cur
rent will also be used in operat
ing a system of interurban trolley
lines through middle and south
Georgia and it is believed in At
lanta that branch lines will be
run out from the main line be
tween Macon and Atlanta.
PROF. LANIER REELECTED
AND HIS SALARY RAISED
At a recent meeting of the
Jackson Board of Education,
Prof. W. R. Lanier was reelected
superintendent of the schools of
the city and his salary was in
cresed from SI3OO to SISOO.
Prof. Lanier merits the appre
ciation of Jackson people for his
splendid services as an educator.
In speaking of his reelection as
superintendent of the Jackson
=cVx*ls, the Dublin Courier-Dis
pav.ii says:
‘ Prof. Lanier was for several
ve vs connected with the schools
of this city, the last two years of
his stay here being superintend
ent. He has a host of friends
here who will be glad to know of
his reelection at Jackson.”

The gasoline engine is so reliable, so simple, so safe, and
