MB. M'CORD WRITES OF
FLORIOA REVIVAL WORK
Cocoa, Fla. April 6, ‘OB.
Dear Mr. Editor:—l promised
ttife former editor of your paper
to write a few lines now and
then, so this morning I will let
my friends know through this
medium, of the work being done
in these parts, for the Lord.
We closed a most successful
meeting at Titusville last night.
This meeting run for five weeks,
lacking one day. Titusville was
considered one of the hardest
places of the East coast. Many
of the church members were
brought up to think dancing, card
playing and theatre going was
alright. So we had this all to
contend with. But glory be to
God, He came to our rescue and
gave signal victory. The church
es were lifted to a higher plane
of Christian living, and the
whole town was revived more or
less.
Seventy-five united with the
different churches as follows:
Fifty-seven to the Methodist,
thirteen to the Presbyterian, four
to the Baptist and one to the
Episcopal.
Our meeting began here Sun
day morning. Brother and sister
Smith of Rodman, Fla., are con
ducting the singing. We are ex
pecting great things here.
Cocoa is another beautiful
town of about 1000 people. It
too is a ripe field for a genuine
old fashioned revival of “Old
Time Religion. ” Let us all pray
to that end.
In our last meeting an engineer
of the Florida East Coast Rail
way, was greatly blessed. He is
a member of the Baptist church,
and will likely run a special train
down to this meeting, which is
only about nine-teen miles. We
are about midway between St.
Augustine and Miami. This is
right in the heart of the orange
belt, and is also on the beautiful
Indian river.
These people are suffering for
rain. They havn’t had much in
two years. They drink rain
water, and it is out with many.
Of course they consume a great
deal of ice, many of the towns
having their own plants. The
weather is quite warm. We will
be here for two weeks, then we
go to Valdosta for a month's
siege. (D. V.)
Some of the notable conver
sions last meeting was that of
Prof. Joe Fielding, former
champion pugilist of England and
now champion of Fla., Mr. and
Mrs. Faust of Sweeden, a pho
tographer, and that of a Mr.
Griggs, a noted drunkard, some
fisherman and many others we
might mention, but time and
space forbids.
With love to all, and best wishes
for your continued success, I am
Yours and His,
W. Walstein McCord,
811 Austell Building, Atlanta, Ga.
MR. MAYFIELD WRITES.
Editor Progress: Please allow
me space for a short letter as I
havn’t been admitted in some
time, and my thinking apparatus
is better since the election is
over.
Gentle Spring has come again
with mirth and sunshine, and the
mocking birds have begun to sing
their merry songs, and the spar
rows twitter all day long and
everything seems to be in a
happy mood and we can realize
that life is worth living, but
while I am writing this I can
hear the busy plowman whistling
his merry tune, and the click of
the guano distributor, it makes
me think of the days gone by
when I was with them and had
health. Today lam sitting in an
invalid chair, and life to me is
what others make it. Each one
knows his own life, but no one
wth health can tell the life of an
invalid.
I am not complaining because
I speak of myself and did not
: ntend to write such a letter, but
ny mind led me astray. It if
lard to suffer and be patient, bu:
fife is short and how swiftly it if
passing by. I try to meet every
body with a smile, and have a
kind word for every one, and
thank goodness they still help
me to get a little more joy and
happiness out of life.
Dear friends I hope I will be
remembered by you in the future
as I have in the past. I will still
live in hopes that every cloud has
a silver lining and though my
life may be all clouds now, they
may break and the light of happi
ness again be shining.
I hope all the readers of The
Progress will remember me with
kind words on a post card, or
through the columns of the
paper. lam your invalid friend,
C. N. Mayfield.
