Mrs. A. F. White has returned
from Atlanta where she was the
guest of her sister, Mrs. M. A.
Lindsay, for several days.
Mr. and Mrs. T. P. Atkinson
and little daughter, Elizabeth,
spent the week-end in Jackson.
Mr. J. T. Edwards, one of Flo
villa’s enterprising merchants,
made a business trip to Atlanta
Tuesday.
Mr. R. V. Smith made a busi
ness trip to Atlanta recennly.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown of
Warthen are guests of their par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Web Bryant.
Mrs. Brown was quite sick when
they arrived, but we are glad to
know she is very much improved.
Her sister, Miss Agnes Brpant,
continves ill with very little im
provement in her condition.
Capt. W. F. Smith and Mr. Par
ham Smith have returned from a
business trip to Florida.
Mrs. G. 0. Earnest and little
ones left Tuesday for a short vis
it to Macon.
Miss Rosa Greer spent Tuesday
in Atlanta shopping.
Mrs. Luther Redmond and lit
tle son Frank, of Griffin, arrived
Wednesday to be the guests of
Mrs. Redmond’s mother, Mrs. R.
F. Greer, until after the holidays.
Mrs. J. W. Heard and Mrs. J'
T. Gibson returnen home Wednes
day after a short visit to relatives
in Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Westbrook
were the guests of Mr. and Mrs.
S. L. Thompson on Sunday.
Misses Lucile Elder and Willie
Terrell spent Tuesday in Jackson
with Miss Pauline Mallet.
Miss Sue Watts returned home
with Mrs. J. Mote Watts Tuesday
and will remain in Jackson for
several days.
Rev. and Mrs. M. L. Harris
entertained the stewards of the
Methodist church, and a few of
their friends very delightfully at
tea Monday evening at their home

Smith at Jesup by Sheriff Lyons
and his son. Mr. Smith was a
brother of Mr. J. Pearce Smith
and Mrs. J. B. Pruitt of this city
and their many friends sympa

Appointed to Fill Vacancy.
Judge E. J. Reagan has ap
pointed Mr. J. B. Childs of Jen
kinsburg to fill the vacancy on
the county board of education
caused by the death of Judge
Hammond. The appointment is
only temporary and at the next
meeting of the grand jury Judge
Hammond’s successor will be
regularly chosen. The appoint
ment was made a few days ago
by Judge Reagan.
The next meeting of the board
of education will be held in Jan
uary and in February the grand
jury will then fill the vacancy
caused by the death of the
lamented Judge Hammond who
for a long time served as presi
dent of the board of education.

about 25 pupils. First-grade li
cense teacher wanted, one who
will take the school on its merits.
