CEDAR ROCK
Miss Essie Owen entertained a
number of young people Saturday
night at a birthday party. Sev
eral presents were received. Af
ter the games ice cream and cake
were served.
Mr. L. E. O’Neal has returned
to his home after a few days ab
sence attending the Congrega
tional Methodist State Conference
which convened in Carroll county.
Mr. Vines Collier has returned
to his home in Brunswick after a
few days visit at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Burford.
Mr. Houston Turner was with
Miss Essie Owen Sunday.
Mr. J. H. Burford carried Miss
Claude Perdue and his cousin,
Miss Fannie Mae Burford, to j
Sardis Sunday afternoon. I
The young people of Cedar
Rock had a pleasant time at the
singing at Sardis Sunday. The
leaders were: Messrs. George
Lummus and Asberry Godsey.
! The regular monthly services
were held at Cedar Rock Sunday.
The pastor. Rev. W. A. Harper,
being absent the services were
conducted by Rev. T. J. Webb.

Mrs. Hugh Lee and children

Mr. John Cook spent the week

Mercer Hodges are glad to know
that they have moved back to
Stark.
Miss Exie Singley has returned
to her home in Buchanan after a
delightful stay with relatives and
friends here.
A good many young people of
Stark attended the singing at
Pleasant Grove Sunday afternoon
The friends of Mr. Richard
Harper regret to know he con

Jackson, Ga., Aug. 14th, 1914
At a meeting of the Board of
Education of Butts county, held
this day, the board passed the
following preamble and resolu
tion:
Whereas, the Board of Educa
tion of Butts county at its meet
ing on December 30th. 1913, had
no resources from which to de
rive revenue to support and main
tain the schools of the county
other than the State funds ap
propriated to the county by the
State; and whereas, said funds
would not maintain the public
schools of the county for a longer
period of time than five and one
half scholastic months; and where
as, on the 17th day of April, 1914,
the qualified voters of Butts coun
ty voted county wide local tax,

on the entire property of the
county, thereby giving the Board
the right to levy a tax to support
and maintain the schools of the
county for a longer period of time
than five and one half months
for the year 1914.
Therefore, Be it resolved, That
the Board of Education of Butts
county do now reconsider the ac
tion of the Board of Education on
December 30th, 1913, and do or
der that the schools of the county
be kept open and operated for
the term of nine (9) months dur
ing the year 1914.
