Telephone No. 166. Communications are welcomed. Cor respondents will please confine them selves to ?00 words, as communications over that length cannot be handled. Write on one side of the paper only, sign your name, not for publication, but as an evidence of good faith. Official Organ Butts County And the City of Jackson. Some papers are known by the news they do not print. It is true when you figure it out. Every knock is a boost. How many Georgia products are you going to sell this year? About time to begin planning for that Butts county fair isn’t it? The problem before Georgians now is to learn to feed themselves. Read Judge Daniel’s charge to the Grand Jury. It will do you good. What has become of that old fashioned custom where the of fice saught the man? Joe Hill Hall is threatening the come back. He may run for the legislature in Bibb county. You can always bet on the fa vorite sons being ready to get in the running at the first opportu nity. A bond issue for street paving and sidewalks improvement in Jackson ought to be popular at this time. Raise all the foodstuffs you can and rest assured that you will find a cash market for them right here in Jackson. Yet we don’t believe that Jack Slaton ever would have slapped Georgia farmers and business men in the face. Wallace Miller, a well known young attorney of Macon, has been named as assistant United States district attorney. The advertiser has nothing to conceal. He matches his goods against a critical buying public. Patronize the advertisers. Glad to see that the congress men are too busy in Washington to send out the usual free garden seed. It means better gardens. The people of Atlanta have $60,000 to spend for dago grand opera while the large list of un employed walks the streets and wonders where the next meal is coming from. If this is the At lanta spirit we are glad that we have none of it.—Butts County Progress. The Atlanta Spirit is the spirit which impels Atlanta to do all those things which will make it appear that there is such a thing as the Atlanta Spirit.—Macon Telegraph. From which we judge that the Atlanta Spirit is a cold-blooded, deliberate, selfish proposition. The Moultrie packing plant is getting nearly as much advertis ing as a freakish candidate on a political year. But the Moultrie enterprise deserves it. It has come to pass. A little while ago they were mortgaging farms to buy automobiles but we note that an Atlanta man wants to swap his car for a cow. If the doctors and undertakers could get together more, several cities we know of would lose some of their most unprogressives —Macon Telegraph. Wonder if The Telegraph is hinting at Macon or Jesup? Butts county has from five hundred to a thousand boys who ought to be enrolled in the Corn Clubs and the Pig Clubs this year. They would make them selves felt in the live-at-home movement. If Editor Anderson of The Ma con Telegraph doesn’t stop boast ing about the prowess of his pet pig, Benjamin, we’ll challenge him to match his poker against some of the Butts county thor oughbreds at the Butts county fair this fall. Tom Hardwick is against the parcel post. Now he is with the republicans and the shipping trust on the ship-purchase bill. Cotton may rot on the farmers hands and business in the South stagnate for lack of ships to haul the staple, but no help will the South get from “Sho-fiy” Tom mie. He is extingusihing him self right along. The late Mr. C. S. Maddox, Superintendent of Schools, was in intimate touch with the educa tional situation in Butts county and his equal will be hard to find. It is hoped that the Board of Ed ucation will select as his success or the very best man in the coun ty. The educational advance ment of the county is a matter that vitally concerns us all. Stevenson: “The world is so full of a num ber of things, I’m sure we should all be as hap py as kings.” I think it safe to say that all our pupils are learning that the only way to real happiness lies in OWE MY HEALTH toPeruna Gradually .. He says: ‘lt has been seven months now since I have taken any Peruna and I haven’t felt the least touch of cold since, and I am positive that I am now rid of the tendency to catch cold. Peruna Is a wonderful remedy." Those who object to liquid medi cines can now procure Peruna Tab lets. doing faithfully each day the du ties nearest us. One may expect to find pleasure by another road, but it will prove as great a dis appointment as the mirage in the desert. Anything except honest work fills the future with regrets. There are many persons whose lives ha 1 , e been embittered by the fact that their early opportu nities were wasted, and they must plod along in hard places through life. We are trying ear nestly to impress such lessons in time to be of help in building characters that will render these children able to take their places in the world with credit to them selves and to those who trained them. The American child is teacha ble in spite of the fact that an English author said that “Amer ica is that country where the parents are sent to bed for talk ing back to the children.” There may be some truth in the above statement but the American boys and girls have so far grown into sound minded citizens. It re mains for the future to show whether this shall continue. The honors of the week are to Mildred Cook of the seventh grade. W. W. Swetnam.
