WOULD PLACE TREASURER
ON A STRAIGHT SALARY
(Continued from page 1)
bushels peas, 25 bushels potatoes.
260 pounds meat, one two-horse
wagon, one mower and rake, 1
disc harrow and other farm tools.
We find 16 acres sown in oats
and 4 acres in wheat. Mr. H. R.
Harris informed us that he had
furnished the chain gang with
about $700,00 worth of vegeta
bles, grain, hay, &c. Four pau
per buildings all in very good
shape.
County School Superintendent
Our committee found that
Judge Ham made a statement
from Mr. C. S. Maddox’s bank
book, which was correct. The
teachers over the county have
been paid for January 1915 sal
ary and something like $1,500.00
on hand for February payment,
We find the books in good shape
and attach hereto the report made
by Judge Ham.
We regret the loss of our wor
thy and efficient County School
Superintendent, C. S. Maddox.
Pension List
We have examined the pension
list handed us by the Ordinary
and so far as we can see is correct.
Recommendations
We recommend that the public
road near the Jenkins place
down toward Cork—and the one
on east side of the railroad at
Cork be worked and improved by
the county gang. That the bridge
between J. S. Carter’s and Geo.
Ridgeway’s be built at once.
We especially recommend that
our Representative in the State
Legislature introduce a bill and
have it passed permitting the
county to vote to put the County
Treasurer on a $300.00 per an
num salary instead of a commis
sion basis.
County Farm Demonstrator
We recommend that the Coun
ty Demonstrator, Mr. H. L. Wor
sham, De retained for another
year at a cost of $250 to the
county.* Also that the teacher of
the Gwfe Canning Club be re
tained.
\
We recommend that our Com
missioner replace the present
janitor with a white man. That
the money collected as commuta
tion tax be turned over to the
Treasurer and go through the
regular course same as other
county funds.
Feeling that we are strictly
within our rights and that a
large majority of the tax payer*
are with us, we have appointed
a committee of three members of
this jury, T. P. Bell. J. L. Whit
aker, L. R. Dodson, to examine
into the financial condition of the
county—employ an expert ac
countant if necessaay—and make
a published statement of same.
We wish it understood that in
deing this we do not mean to
censure any officer of the county
—for it is as much for their pro
tection —but simply that the tax
payers may know' exactly how*
the county stands financially.
. J. P. and N. P.
We have filled the following
offices:
615 district G. M. Mr. W. J.
Bankston.
610 district G. M. Mr. T. P.
Bell. . . .
Mr. J. B. Childs was recom
mended as member of the County
School Board to fill vacancy of
Mr. R. L. Carter.
We desire to extend to the
court and its officers our appre
ciation for their courteous assis
tance.
We recommend that these pre
sentments be published in both
the county papers who shall be
paid SIO.OO each for same.
Respectfully submitted.
J. H. Mills, Foreman,
F. C. Benson, Sec.
Ordered, that the foregoing
general presentments be entered
on the minutes of this court and
that they be published as therein
recommended.
This 23rd day of Feb. 1915.

THICK, 6LOSSY HAIR
FREE FROM DANDRUFF
Girls! Try It! Hair Gets
Soft, Fluffy, and Beauti
ful—Get a 25 Cent Bottle
of Danderine.
If you care for heavy hair that
glistens with beauty and is radi
ant with life; has an incompara
ble softness and is fluffy and
lustrous, try Danderine.
Just one application doubles
the beauty of your hair, besides
it immediately dissolves every
particle of dandruff. You can
not have nice heavy, healthy hair
if you have dandruff. This de
structive scurf robs the hair of
its lustre, its strength and its
very life, and if not overcome it
produces a feverishness and itch
ing of the scalp; the hair roots
famish, loosen and die; then the
hair falls out fast. Surely get a
25-cent bottle of Knowlton’s
Danderine from any drug store
and just try it. adv.
We are well equipped now for working the roads and willfnot
have to buy any machinery at all this year. It is is mv purpose
now to cut down the exDenses for this year as much as possible so
as to reduce the tax rate, and put the county entirely out of debt.
You will discover that it is not the road work that is involving
the county in debt, but other things. For instance, the litigation
we are having with Jasper county over the boundary line, which,
it seems, could not be avoided. This delayed our tax income and
caused us to pay out large amounts in attorneys fees; and also for
the establishing of the line between Butts and Jasper counties.
And other litigation has been forced on us, all of which costs
money. We have not collected all of the commutation road taxes
for thejyear 1914. Owing to the hard times we have tried to be len
ient with the people and I think by March Ist we will have collec
ted all of the taxes or its equivalent in work. We have some ten
thousand dollars in taxes hung up and we have a floating debt of
$10,000.00.
Respectfully submitted,
J. O. GASTON, County Commissioner,
JOSEPH JOLLY, Clerk.
