ASPIRE! ATTEMPT! ACHIEVE!
BY ELAM FRANKLIN DEMPSEY, B. D.
Professor of Theology in Emory College.
Let me tell you what I believe
to be the three magic steps to a
true success.
First, aspire! Aspiration is a
voice from the heaven of the in
finite. It is always in the line
with the highest and noblest
thoughts within us. It is an im
pulse, a desire to be in character
and conduct, in circumstance and
career, what God would have us
be. God wants us, in all these
particulars, to be the very high
est that is possible to us.
Aspiration is, then, the first
step upward toward a true suc
cess. Do not be ashamed of your
noble, even daring, dreams of
what you would like to be and do.
You are an immortal soul, made
in the image of God, and God's
best is not too good for you. But
yesterday the men and women
who are doing the great things
and revealing the splendid char
acters of today, were the boys
and girls, even as you are this
morning. Be bold to aspire af
ter the very best that is possible
to you!
Second, attempt!
A mere aspiration is worth
very little. We must not only
dream but we must do. We must
seek to build a firm foundation
under our castle in the air. Some
one has said: “It is doubtless a
fine thing to build a cathedral;
but is better to actually make a
good pair of boots than merely to
dream of building a cathedral."
“Dream a dream of daytime.
Dream it well and do it!
Let not come the grey-time,
Nor live thy life and rue it!”
At this point we begin to see
the metal of men tried. It is
comparatively easy to aspire, but
steadfastly to attempt its reali
zation, day by day, through sor
row and joy, through hope and
despair, through strength and
weakness, through success and
defeat —unfalteringly year after
year—is by no means easy. Yet
this is the price of every worthy
success.
Attempt, and keep on persist
ing in the attempt and you may
be sure you are drawing nearer
and nearer to that after which
you aspire.
Third, achieve!
Achievement is the child of as
piration and attempt.
Do not content yourself with
merely aspiring and attempting;
press on until you, by means of
these, have before you the full
orbed achievement. Many there
are who go far along the road to
success, who almost attain, and
then, alas, settle down content
with half a loaf when they star
ted out to get the whole loaf.
They allow “the better to become
the enemy of the best” They
fall into the sad error of saying:
“Well, that isn't quite what I
aimed at, but it will do.” No, a
thousand times, no! Nothing
will “do” except the absolute
best after which we aspire in our
holiest moments. Be ashamed to
be court-jester when Almighty
God called you to be prime min
ister! Gird your soul afresh to
its most heroic efforts and achieve
what you have dreamed. Not
till then will you know—can you
know—the secret the approval
of your own conscience or hear
the Voice saying “Well done!”
We have not done well until we
have done our best Until we

We have always advocated goods with

When Anybody Finds a Cure
He Is Generally Willing
To Tell His Neighbor
f The willingness of one neighbor to tell another neigh
bor in a private way of the benefit received from Peruna,
explains the popularity of Peruna more than all the ad
vertising that has been done.
The fear of the publicity undoubtedly prevents the
majority of such people from writing a testimonial to be
used in the newspaper. But in spite of that we are re
ceiving fine testimonials continually.
ANEMIA — Jlrs ’ M<arenpo, Ohio, says: "I believe
NnfclVlßlt peruna to be the best tonic. I recommend it for any
run-down condition of the system."
SPRING COLDS —^ trs - Rhoda Stufllebeam, Bunch, Iowa: “A
VinlUV VVhWW spring cold I took settled on my lungs.
Coughed. Could not sleep. We feared consumption. Thanks to
Peruna, I am a well woman today.”
QATIIDpH —Mrs. Sadie Allen, Joseph, Oregon: “My little boy is
”****®"**" entirely cured of catarrh of the ears by Peruna. Am
thankful for your good advice.”
SPRING TONIC — Mra - nl - Mcrtoberta, Brown Valley, Minn.:
WlßrllU I will V -Taken In spring Peruna tones up the Bystem,
acts as a tonic. I consider Peruna a whole family medicine
chest.”
T How did they hear of Peruna?
Simply because one neighbor is always willing to tell
another one he has found a cure. Neighborly conversa
tion of grateful patients has done more for Peruna than
advertising. Much more.
