Something New Every Week J. B. Thomas. : SOCIAL NEWS : Benefit Social The sock social which was driv en Tuesday afternoon and even ing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Carmichael was thoroughly enjoyed by a large number of guests. The house was prettily decora ted in wistaria and greenery., In the hall was suspended a large sock into which the smaller socks, containing the contributions, were dropped. Music was fur nished by a bevy of talented young ladies. In the evening a program of readings and music was given. A dainty ice course was served. A nice sum was realized and will go towards buying pews for the new Baptist church. PERSONAL Ben Cleveland was up from Indian Springs Wednesday. Col. J. Threat* Moore is out again after an attack of grip. Mr. S. K. Smith was among Tuesday’s visitors to the city. Col. W. E. Watkins made a business trip to Atlanta Monday. Mr. I. J. Slaughter is visiting Dr. and Mrs. T. K. Slaughter in Florida. Mrs. W. E. Cantrell, of Atlan ta, will spend Saturday here with relatives. Mr: J. W. Norsworthy, of For syth. was a visitor to Jackson Tuesday. Mrs. W. S. Colvin spent-Satur day and Sunday with relatives in Jenkinsburg. '■ Cols. H. D. Russell and C. L. Redman attended court in Mc- Donough this week. Mrs. P. R. Watkins had as her guests part of the week Mr. and Mrs. Smith, of Atlanta. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Fletcher and Mr. T. A. Spencer were vis itors to the city Tuesday. Miss Nelyia Damour has re turned to Macon after a visit with Miss Helen Carmichael. Mrs. L. S. O’Neal has return ed from Atlanta, where she has been for the past several weeks. Mrs. R. E. Stanfield and Miss Jane Stanfield have returned to Jackson for the summer months. Marvin King’s friends regret to know that he had his arm bro ken while cranking an automo bile, several days ago. Mr. F. S. Etheridge and Dr. C. D. Heard were among the Jackson people attending the State Sunday School convention in Americus this week. Mr. Etheridge was among those who delivered addresses at this meet ing. The following re port shows that the Wesley class has the advantage so far and if the Baracas expect to beat they will have to hustle. The reports follow herewith: Baraca class—Enrolled 50, present 38, attended church 23, new members 6. Wesley class—Enrolled 40, present 40,, attended church 33, new members 9. The interest manifested over this contest and the friendly ri valry that this contest has brought out is going to prove a great blessing to both classes. Free Use of Swimming Pool Friday afternoon of this week. MR. WILLIAM EARNEST DIES AT PEPPERTON HOME I Mr. William E. Earnest, aged 21, died at his home in Pepper ton Thursday afternoon of last week, after a several months ill ness of tuberculosis. He recent ly returned home from the Alto sanitarium and other complica tions hastened the end. The young man is survived by his mother and several brothers and sisters. The funeral was conducted at Pepperton by Rev. Mr. Bradley Friday afternoon and the inter ment was in the Pepperton cem etery. JOHN WILLIAMSON YIELDS TO GRIM REAPER Mr. John Williamson, aged 75, died at his home at Pepperton Tuesday night at 11 o’clock,, af ter an illness of some time. His death was caused by a complica tion of diseases. Mr. Williamson was a native of Butts county and was regarded as an excellent gentleman and his demise is regretted by a wide circle of friends. He was a Con federate soldier, having been a member of Cos. I, 14th Georgia regiment, Jeff Davis Rifles, the first company that left Butts county in 1861. The surviving relatives are his W!fe, three daughters, Mrs. Ad die Tyner, Mrs. Meadow Bartlett, Mrs. Luther Turner, four sons, Messrs T. B„ J. C„ Jr., and R. N -WiHiamson, all of Pepperton, and H. D. Williamson, Juliette. The funeral services were con ducted from the residence at 3 0 • i OC rS Wednesday afternoon, with Rev. Z E.
